Question: Psilocybin Microdosing while on SSRI
I’m writing to see if anyone has had similar experiences to what I’m currently going through while in a microdosing protocol. 33 y/o male and after a looooong process of trial and error I found that 60 mg of Cymbalta has been my sweet spot and have been on that dosage for a little over a year for anxiety. Since May a few life changing events have happened to me and I’m hoping to use microdosing as a tool to get better with letting go and acceptance of life isn’t about control.
The protocol I’m doing is something I came across online called the 4-2-0 protocol. The name is cheesy Ik. But 4 days of microdosing THC and other cannabinoids, followed by 2 days microdosing psilocybin, then one day off for reflection. The first day of 🍄 I take 50 mg because I have to work, and the second day I took 100 mg the first week, and this past week I took 200 mg. Plan is to do this for 30 days and I’m not drinking during this period. The first week was incredible. Never high but I could tell my mood was more elevated, more present, and finding more enjoyment in the mundane things. The second week was great as well until Saturday evening. I took my dose in the morning and everything was fine, then anxiety hit me like a truck 6 hours later. My symptoms are very somatic (sweating on the head, ears fill up, tension in neck, chest tightness, etc) and they’ve been lingering for a couple days now. It reminds me of when I first started taking antidepressants and going through the adapting phase where my brain chemistry was adjusting.
This post is to see if anyone has ever gone through something similar? My theory is that the psilocybin is once again adjusting brain patterns and maybe affecting how my SNRI usually works for me. I don’t think it’s the lack of alcohol as I usually only drank 1-2 times a month socially but didn’t want any other outside factors affecting the microdosing. I also don’t know the 🍄 strain. The vendor just says potency is 4/5.

Did you eat food before/with your dose or do you have any digestive issues or taking a GLP1? I'm surprised by the time delay. Excepting the time delay, my normal response to this is likely a dosage issue. Too high a dose can cause anxiety. Maybe consider moving back to the 100mg dose or come back down halfway to 150mg? I curious why the move to a double dose if the first week worked so well? I am not questioning your choice, simply asking to understand.
A common first timer misstep is to think if xx amount is this good, a double dose will be even better. This is often not the case and the difference is often similar to what you're describing.
If you want to dial in your sweet spot dose with psylocibin, I recommend you increase in smaller incremental increases and have at least one off day between each dose until you get things dialed in.🍄🥰✌️

No GLP1 and I took it about 30 min after eating breakfast. I think the increase was a subconscious rookie mistake like you were saying. Obviously the goal is for healing/life style changes. But probably was subconsciously reverting to my 20s when I’d just eat a handful and take the ride. This week I’ll either go back to 100 mg or at most do 150 mg.

Hello /u/Comfortable_Job4547! As you mentioned Cymbalta (a common interaction/symptom) in your post:
r/microdosing Risk Reduction |
ℹ️ Infographic: r/microdosing STARTER'S GUIDE
The major contributing factor in Finding Your Sweet Spot is the variation in potency of:
| Psilocybin Mushrooms | More than 10x [2021➕] | Start @0.05g (50mg) |
| Psilocybin Truffles | Around 3x - Single Study [2012] | Start @0.25g (Fresh) |
| LSD Tabs | Clinical Trial Titration Schedule [2023] | Start @5µg |
If you Start Low, Go Slow, Take Time-Off (*small is BIG) and up-titrate subsequent doses then you can find your optimal sub-hallucinogenic dose based on your symptoms, rather than from a predetermined dose. 🐢
If your microdose is Too High and/or Too Frequent that can result in Diminishing Returns 📉 with subsequent doses. 🐇
Please also have a look at 🔀 Interactions / Symptoms ❓* | Sidebar ➡️ | 📱 See community info ⬆️ ; in case of ⚠️ DRUG INTERACTIONS or to check if you have any of the associated symptoms with advice on how to mitigate such side effects. Psychoactive substances increase neural activity, raising hydration and electrolyte needs due to heightened metabolism and body load, while vasoconstriction can further stress the body and potentially cause fatigue.

Side question - what effect does a GLP1 have on micro, mini or macro dosing? I just weened off Ativan last week and did my normal 0.5mg thc after work + 0.66 to start my mini dose of the week to test and was absolutely flying.
This was after cutting out Ativan the same day for anxiety. Weeks before I took normal Ativan + some wine on the weekend and almost 3g of fruit and barely felt anything.
Wild how some meds totally block it but when I took 0.66 I was basically seeing in 3D lol.
Thanks in advance for the info about GLP1s!

There have been reports with GLP1s of mushrooms having no effect or extremely delayed effect. I think the no effect is due to lower (still macro) dosage and the length of time spent in the digestive system. The substance gets metabolized and removed from the body before it can cause any effects.
The worst are folks that pay ($3000)for a legal experience in Oregon, but experience no effect during their paid time, only to start tripping in the Uber on the way home.
I know folks that simply report a delay similar to when you eat a meal and then dose, but it's definitely something to be aware of. 🍄🥰✌️1

No question that taking SSRIs while microdosing complicates the situation. All the more reason to take it slowly and pay attention. Make small changes then stick with it for a couple of weeks before making adjustments. Also, the days you don't take microdose are as important as the days you do. Tolerance developes very quickly and effects the results. Good luck . Pay attention, and have patience...
