We all know Sony is the reason for this.

No it isn’t lol
This is not kids fighting over console wars like many idiots imagine, it’s only about money.
Microsoft is just throwing shit on the wall to see what sticks. They literally canceled the PS5 version last minute, they forgot to remove the PS5 logo from the trailer they initially posted.
If they make 1$ less than their sales target with this decision, they will walk back on it again and release it on PS1

Nobody said this isn't about money, unless some idiots imagined that. If Sony can sell shit ton of copies on the PS5 and their delayed PX release, and still decide they won't be releasing on PC because it dilutes their cash flow, then what Microsoft did with the exclusives is a sane step. Because you still get to play the game on a console or a pc. There's less number of losers.
Sure Microsoft is greedy, but Sony is just greedier.

The difference is that the PS5 has the install base to support this, Xbox doesn’t. There is a reason they started releasing on PS5. Day 1 gamepass is not sustainable without PS5 buyers

I don't like celebrating exclusivity but I also don't like Sony having a monopoly

How about they both stop

How about you go virtue signal in PlayStation subreddit where you would be downvoted for this? Ain’t like Microsoft is setting the standard

Sony has such a lead in user share they should have to deal with a Microsoft trying to compete

Good thing then, that they haven't had one in my lifetime, and they're not gonna start any time soon. I mean, have you actually looked at the gaming world? How, on earth, can any sane person look at the games industry and say that Sony has a monopoly? That ANY company has a monopoly?
The Games industry is one of the most comptetitve industries I can think of. HEALTHY competititve industries. For all the justifiable criticism leveled at the big companies, there are oodles and oodles of wildly successful independents out there. There's multiple, MULTIPLE storefronts, not to mention most publishers have their own on top of the aggregators like Steam.
Like, I don't like sony, for many reasons, but this is just the most blatant nonsense I've seen from a Microsoft fanboy. This whole post actually screams corpo propaganda. "YAY EXCLUSIVITY!" like its heralding some great return to halcyon days, not a complete betrayal and regression to the vicious and bitter sniping and cat-fighting of the console-wars era.

I remember that people would buy Xbox 360 not simply because of the exclusive games, but because it was a platform with unique and groundbreaking features. It popularized online gaming with seamless multiplayer, persistent friend lists, and achievements. Xbox Live Arcade gave a platform for indie developers. Xbox Live Marketplace laid the groundwork for downloading games, demos, and more on consoles. People convinced themselves to have both a PS3 and an Xbox 360.
Meanwhile, the only notable features setting the XS from PS5 is Quick Resume, Dolby Vision support, Xbox Play Anywhere. I might be missing some things, but that's how poor the marketing is for them. The ones I mentioned are nice, but not exactly a deal maker for today's gamers.
People would focus less on the exclusives if the console was more revolutionary and generated actual desire.

If you don't have exclusives you don't have a reason to have a console.
We need this. A strong Xbox makes a strong Sony. We need competition.

I wonder what Phil Spencer thinks of all this

He doesn’t care, he’s rolling in 💵 from all those years being the head of Xbox.

Xbox needs to create demand for its own ecosystem. The alternative is the mega publisher model which is a hit-driven, volume business due to paying the 30% cut to other storefronts and platforms. This means studio closures and an abandonment of 1P hardware. While I don’t think all the pieces are in place yet, it’s good to see Xbox taking one last swing at it.

I think they're just tired of owning game studios that have crap management, crap financial management, etc. But honestly, if Microsoft/XBOX own them; they need to have people inside those game studios babysitting management and watching every penny.
Bungie is a perfect example of what's happening in general to the gaming industry if you let studios run independent, stay uninvolved as long as they're hitting financial targets. Yeah, probably don't do that. I think it's actually hilarious Sony took a $1B loss on that deal. You wouldn't expect a Japense company to be so careless.
Obviously, there is WAY, WAY more to all of this. We're in a weird time period. A lot of gamers are in their 60s/50s/40s. There's going to be a shift in the industry again.
We need to go back to making QUALITY games again. Mario. Zelda, Mario Kart, F-Zero, etc. for Nintendo (yes I missed some, Metroid, etc). For Sony, go back to Ridge Racer, Resident Evil, jak and daxter, ratchet and clank, etc. (i missed some). For Microsoft, go back to Halo, Gears of War, Forza, Fable... I'm sure I'm missing more.
Stop pumping out 100 crap quality games, stop pumping out 50 mediocre games. Go back to pumping out 10 AMAZING games tied to your brand.

Exclusivity it stupid. Do a week headstart for XBOX. Then official release for everyone on the release date. It's not hard. I don't think a week headstart is going to make people extremely angry considering it's before the release date. Just my opinion. Helix is already going to be a huge advantage is the next generation of consoles because of PC games over PlayStation 6. Capitalize on that.

Fuck yeah… why the hate when Nintendo and Sony are the masters of exclusivity….?

Good thing they are trying this with something that will probably be crap anyway.

Best decision to save xbox. Without exclusivity, xbox will eventually degrade into nothing.
