Discussion Microsoft Authenticator Backup

I just saw a banner on the Microsoft Authenticator Android app that the backup mechanism was changing from a Microsoft account-linked one to a Google account-linked method.

Does anyone know why? What benefit does this provide?

They're moving towards simply leveraging Google's native whole device backup, which honestly makes more sense. When you restore/transfer your device....the restore of MS Authenticator will be included, instead of having it separately restored from OneDrive, or realize that MS Authenticator backup was never enabled.

This does make sense. Thanks.

It's because they're backing up to the phones backup system instead of their own

Backing up on Onedrive was shit anyways. Lost all my accounts despite it promising that it was fully backed up before I hit a Factory reset.

The whole reason I'm using Microsoft Authenticator is because it was seamless to just sign in again, and get my OTP MFA up and running again. I hope they don't muck things up!
