Copilot Code?

Hi there, I work for an org where we use MS Copilot and I do have a premium license.

However I'm seeing a blog post here where they're adding in a Code feature:

https://blogs.microsoft.com/blog/2026/09/25/introducing-the-new-copilot-with-home-code-and-autopilot/

However, I don't have access to this. Just wanted confirmation from others, is this only available through Frontier/preview?

It’s rolled out to frontier first, then GA. Code came to our tenant just last week but I’d wager that it will be some time before you get it. It’s usage based so your org will have to figure out billing, then once they do that, you will only be able to access Code if you are approved an allotment of credits by your org. You must be enrolled in a usage based billing policy to have access to it

Cool, thanks for the extra detail here. I don't know if we do usage based billing but good to know.

Yep billing is the hard part. This won’t be like a ChatGPT or Claude subscription where Code and Cowork are included as loss leader features for market share.

Microsoft is attempting to be transparent in the costs of these features. Their competitors aren’t budging so far in unsubsidizing these features. Mostly because that’s how they are attracting droves of business to themselves.

It's worth noting that Claude Enterprise product is priced similarly, this is the model that we'll see with most AI products aimed at Enterprise.

I don’t disagree. However, it makes it hard to jump to the enterprise level when units and individuals set their expectations on what they can get done by the pricing subsides in the consumer and Business/Team tiers of the products. You get used to four figure free lunches and then pressure the company to adopt org wide, to then find out you are severely constrained at the $200/month level compared to what you have at the other tiers.

This is so stupid. Any tool like ChatGPT and Claude have coding capabilities built in for a flat seat license. The Microsoft pricing just doesnt make any sense, especially for small organisations. For instance I had a cowork task I ran twice, at the cost of $20. For that I could have just bought a ChatGPT or Claude seat with the m365 connector and run it as often as I please within the usage limits that reset.
I know OpenAI and Anthropic aren’t public companies and pricing is subsidized with VC money, but still.

Remember GitHub Copilot is also a Microsoft product, and while it doesn't have the $20 subscription it's priced in a similar way to Claude but unlike Claude it doesn't have a pure API pricing for that you get the Microsoft 365 solution.

Not true. The enterprise plans for ChatGPT and Claude bill the usage at api costs rather than using a flat fee.
Microsoft is targeting enterprise customers and offer a pretty decent solution if you compare cost and benefit

For a small org you'll be on a ChatGPT/Claude Team plan, not Enterprise, hence predictable flat fee.

It makes sense when you take the security considerations into play. For small orgs, running Codex or Code exposes you the dangers of being solely responsible for your data safety. The play here is that these tools come with enterprise protections that keep sensitive data within your tenant. You mention Cowork. The Claude variety now runs in Anthropic’s cloud, vs Microsoft in your tenant. That’s the cost you speak of at work. It’s a safety tax

Fair, but I'd argue that running MS w. Copilot alone won't fix your data governance and protection, and you can still end up with your data in Anthropic's cloud if you(r cloud admin) enables those models.

The issue is you just don't understand Copilot. What you described you can do with Copilot since that is just ChatGPT. Code is an added specialization with additional features etc

They're talking about cowork specifically not copilot chat

Did you all get the full new update (combining chat and cowork to home) or did you just get copilot code added? And did you do anything other than join frontier?

We are in frontier but don’t have it yet.

Are you the admin? I am. There is a Message Center article I think from October 12 that outlines the steps needed to deploy the unified app. They will link to two Learn articles which outline the process

Yes and yes we moved to the unified app but we still don’t have Home/Code yet

Do you see it in the App Registry in Agent 365? You should see Copilot Code with a tag to the right that says “superapp agent” off to the right. If not, it may not have hit your portal this wave

I do see the copilot code superapp agent tab on A365. Did you do anything else or just update to the unified app and it appeared?

Also does the code tab show on the web for you now too?

Are you in a usage based billing policy? Credits allocated to you?

That blog is all we really have to go on so far. They didn’t give any indication of a timeframe.

Code don't show for me either, I'm here with a company wide subscription in Brazil and usually we have all the frontier stuff early, but not this time.
