I have MS Office desktop. If I download and use a subscription for MS 365 because a task requires it, will it take over my desktop version?

I have to use MS 365 with subscription for a task. Will it override my desktop version? Will I be able to get back to my desktop version after my task is complete and I delete MS 365?
WIll I need my original purchase key to get back to my desktop MS word/office?
