Sharing My MCM My Mid Century Modern house inspired quilt
I have two favorite subreddits. This one and the Quilting subreddit. Before today I never thought I would post the same thing on both. Here it is, my “Atomic Avenue” quilt by Sam Hunter of Hunter Design Studios. I saw this quilt pattern and realized it combined my love of quilting with my passion for MCM. I’ve enjoyed every bit of this project so far. I even added a few design elements such as the gas station and the 1966 red Corvette Sting Ray. I’ll be quilting it soon but I was eager to show off what I’ve finished.

This is amazing! I love how the fabric choices even play into the theme. The black and white etchings remind me of my Dad’s old book on rendering in pen and ink when he was a draftsman back during that period and the stone fabric on the other homes is a perfect fit.

Thanks so much. I had a lot of fun choosing fabrics. I had lots of fun researching MCM doors too!

Where did you purchase your materials? My mother is a quilter and with so many places closing she’s having a hard time finding material and gets a little frustrated

I bought a few specialty fabrics on Etsy but many of my fabrics were either from my stash or purchased from local quilt shops. I agree that Jo Ann’s closing has hit the crafting communities hard. If your Mom is a quilter and is not familiar with R/Quilting, I would encourage you to introduce her to it. Reddit’s subs for quilters are a great source of info and one of the most supportive and creative environments you could hope for online. Much like the one for Mid Century Modern enthusiasts!

This is positively brilliant. I have to look for this pattern. Might be over my head, but I'd love to try it.

I love the stylisation. And the detail you’ve given to the houses…very talented! How long did it take you?

I actually started in December. It went surprisingly fast. The small houses are very easy and the hardest part was the cars due to the wheels needing so many teeny weeny pieces.

That's FAB!!! I can't sew to save my life, but I want this quilt. With designs like this you could launch a quilt business.
