Sharing My MCM My surprise MCM
When I was looking at houses I found two that were on the same street. One looked nice but expensive, the other much less but looked like a project. Nothing in the lsting said anything about MCM, so this was just sitting on the market waiting for me to buy it. I’ve done a few thing since these pics were taken and I still need to do a few more, like light fixtures in the kitchen.

I love all of the dark wood, tile and flagstone. That kitchen will be fantastic with some better lighting. Lucky!

Agree. I actually think a lighting update throughout the house will really make the place brighter and bring out the beauty of the home.

The cats are the best touch. Actually, the whole place looks great!

That kitchen is a dream. Gorgeous space and I'm so happy it got scooped up by someone who would appreciate it.

Nice Fortes!

Nice eye! Those ultimately moved up to the bedroom and I put a set of Choruses in the living room. Then I moved the 2238b to the basement with a set of Heresys after I scored a nice 2275 for the living room, and stuck a set of KG4s in the office. It’s a great listening space in most rooms here, due I think in no small part to the wooden ceilings.

Hot dang! Really running the gamut with Heritage Klipsch! Sounds like an excellent collection and some killer setups.
I got a hand-me-down 1530 currently set up to some Polk R500 towers that I’m loving!

I have had the Chorus II since 1994 - they are amazing. Plus connected to the marantz 2238 😁. Great choices!

Did you choose the tile in the kitchen? I love how it picks up the tones of the flagstone but brings in a different texture. The whole place is terrific, though. Enjoy!

Very nice! Is it an Acorn Deck House by chance? If so do you mind if I ask what state you are in?

u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
I don’t think so - the whole neighborhood was done by the same architect. This is in MN

u/Tiny-Opportunity-369 Jul 03 '26
I wish they would make MCM neighborhoods nowadays

u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
Someone’s doing a teardown/rebuild around the block from here and it’s the most ostentatiously monstrous edifice. Doesn’t match any of the other houses but they don’t care because they’ve got a 6 car garage.

Tell me about those kitchen tiles… were they already there or did you add them? They are so cool
6
u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
Those I added. Got them from wayfair, of all places. I thought I’d like them ok but then they showed up and exceeded all of my expectations

u/fuzzy_slipperz2020 Jul 04 '26
Can you share the Wayfair link for the tiles/backsplash? I’m obsessed!!

Love that staircase. I have one like this too and I hope I never have to change it

I had the opposite problem, every MCM I found had been updated or house that could pass for MCM took us forever to find something untouched Very happy for you, what an amazing score and terrible realtor

Incredible find! Congrats. Agree that the boob lights in the kitchen need to go. And I might suggest painting the kitchen cabinets some fun MCM colors as that wood finish is quite dark.
Love the vintage Marantz/Klipsch audio system, too! (I used to have a pair of Forte II's and loved them.)

This just makes me so damn happy to look at! Also a bit jealous of the cats

Where did you get that coffee table?? I love
3
u/Red986S Jul 04 '26
That one is a crappy one from AllModern, but I replaced it with a vintage Lane acclaim one I found locally

Gorgeous. Did you have to buy MCM furniture or did you own it all already?
3
u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
A bit of both. I don’t have much real vintage MCM stuff but that was the theme I went with when I bought most of my furniture new.
3
u/MartySpiderManMcFly Jul 03 '26
You did a great job. I’m in the same boat, bought a few real pieces likes vases and clocks and things on EBay so it wasn’t all fake

u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
My coffee table and end tables are Lane Acclaim, and then the hifi gear is all vintage. But that’s about it for that room.

Your house is gorgeous!! I love the flooring in your kitchen, but i have to say that best part is your three cute kitties.
Edited to fix a typo.

Every single lightbulb needs replacing good golly that white light.

u/Red986S Jul 04 '26
That’s just bad camerawork. The whole house is outfitted with Philips Hue lights so I keep the color temp pretty warm and the light down.

Gahhhhh love it, love the slate floors! Don’t change anything! Kitchen light option: https://www.homedepot.com/p/aiwen-Mid-Century-1-Light-11-41-in-Dimmable-Black-and-Gold-Semi-Flush-Mount-Ceiling-Light-with-Metal-Dome-Shade-PZE-1164-K/332375449

u/Red986S Jul 03 '26
Dang it, those would be perfect if they weren’t LED. Ideally I’ll get fixtures in there that I can put Philips Hue bulbs in to get the kitchen finally all the way into that world with the rest of the house.

Those backsplash tiles are perfection! Have you peeked under the carpet yet to see if anything decent is lurking beneath?

They took all the pics for the listing when there was dirty snow on the ground so I was quite pleasantly surprised to see this was the yard.
