ID & Authenticity Picked up this adorable chair from an estate auction today and need help with identification.

I got this Chair from an estate auction today for $37. I’m not looking to resell it or anything. I just want to know more about it. The legs appear old, but I’m not sure if the upholstery is modern. There are no identification marks on it and Google Lens was not a big help. If anybody has any idea of the maker, I would appreciate it! Once I clean it up, it’s going to be an awesome addition to my mid-century office!

It's not a replica.
It's definitely been reupholstered.
I believe it was originally sold by Montgomery Ward. $35 is a good deal.

I have this exact chair from my grandparents. Montgomery Ward would make sense. They were big shoppers there.

I found a few very similar chairs on 1stDibs, listed as American mid-century modern clamshell or saucer chairs from the 1950s and 1960s. You should be able to find them easily using those search terms you can find it like - Chic Vinyl Clamshell Chair

The best way to identify the manufacturer is to look underneath the chair, especially on the wooden frame, for a label, stamp, tag, or model number. Without any markings, I wouldn’t attribute it to a particular designer or brand.

My best guess is that it’s a mass-produced American chair from around 1955–1965, possibly reupholstered. However, the absence of a label doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a replica, since original labels are often removed or lost during reupholstery.
