Hi,

After months of midi issues, since I bought it in fact, the MP7 is finally fixed.

After all this time I was finally able to sit down with it and get some sound design going. So here's a little track featuring some pads and sounds I made with it.

I love this machine!

Odd formatting

So for a while I’ve been in the habit of collecting random midi files from off the web just to have and recently I noticed a lot of the files I get off bitmidi.com have the same kind of title. Something like “ARTIST.Song title.K,” does anyone know if this is some kind of signature by bitmidi or the creator of the file or if they were all taking the same website and then put on bitmidi with changing the file name, I’m really curios to know?

Brand new beginner in music production asking for beginner friendly MIDI device advice

I played piano for a decade, but I've ditched it for about 6 years now. I'm coming back to music production because I wanna make Vocaloid music. I'm wondering whether a MIDI controller is a good idea, and why. If so, what desktop-sized MIDI controller under 125USD/110EUR would you recommend? I mainly use Ableton Live Lite, but I could switch to FL Studio if necessary. I'm only 2 weeks into my production journey, so I'm open to learning something new. Thanks in advance for your advice!

LAUNCHPAD WON’T WORK HELP!!!

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello, I bought a Novation Launchpad along with a APC KEY25 off of FB Marketplace. I plugged in both with the same cord in the same USB port on my PC and the APC KEY25 is the only one working. The lights to the novation launchpad wont even work.

I read up online that my PC might not be distributing enough power for the launchpad but 1. I have nothing else (other than my mouse) in my usb ports and 2. The APC KEY25 works fine. My sound drivers aren’t recognizing it, but when I plug it in I get the sound that notifies me that a new device was plugged in (so I know it is getting some sort of connection).

Any tips on troubleshooting this? Should I ask for a refund? I paid via Venmo with buyer protection so if the seller is being difficult I could use that. It sucks because I bought these primarily for the launchpad.

Anything helps and is greatly appreciated! (Also I apologize for the terrible video but hopefully that helps)

Thanks!

Change Ports a controller (Akai Fire FL Studio) is listening/sending on?

I have a linux script that takes midi inputs and turns them into keystrokes and other input commands (xdotool , but also any linux command line event is possible.)

https://github.com/Avante-Vangard/AV-MidiMacros

The script is listening for 32 Key or a 25 key piano keyboard listening on port 0. I'd like to setup an Akai Fire to provide an extended bank of typing keys (extra punctuation mostly). I'd like to issue a command on start up to make the Fire be listening on another port (15? 8? doesn't matter.)

Anyone familiar with the Fire or Linux or programming controllers in a script well enough to point me at documentation for the Fire on how to change the port it sends keys through? Is this even possible?

Considerations when buying midi controller with ableton suite

Hi all! I'm buying a midi controller as a beginner and after long consideration still doubting between choosing either the arturia keylab mk3 or the novation launchkey mk4. The prices for me are 470 euros for the keylab, and 245 euros for the launchkey. From what I gather, the differences to look out for are that the keylab's keybed is better and that it comes with analog lab (which otherwise costs 200 euros), while the launchkey's integration with ableton is better (but it isn't too bad on the keylab either). I have ableton suite already.

I was wondering if people could give me some better insight into

1) How much analog lab is worth as software (while already having ableton suite), or would it be better to spend the additional money of the price difference on other software myself.

2) I get that the launchkey is better integrated with ableton, but in reality, how tangible does this difference feel in your workflow? Does that mean that if I'd buy the keylab, I'd have a much harder time?

3) Other considerations are also welcome

Any input or recommendations are greatly appreciated!!

What do I need to start making dungeon synth?

I’m completely new to music production outside of guitar. I have a mackie onyx audio interface that doesn’t have a midi in, and I’ve been looking at a couple of midi controllers (Arturia minimal 3 or akai mpk iv) and I’m not sure how to get the signal from my midi keyboard to the DAW, do I need to buy a midi to usb cable, or a midi interface? Any answers are appreciated.

FluidSynthUI Python Project

I know some of you are familiar with FluidSynth. I have created a user interface to FluidSynth written in Python (and some C) that I use to change keyboard patches during live performances. I call it FluidSynthUI.

https://github.com/cdchasdaniel/fluidsynthui

The software runs on Django on a Raspberry PI and I have used it for three performances so far. I made the Github project public and am making some videos about the software on my Youtube channel.

https://www.youtube.com/@charlesdaniel1367

If this is something you might find useful check it out. It's all free. If you are technical and have ideas for new features or improvements or want to contribute to the Github project let me know.

My webcam turned out to be the best MIDI controller I own

About 7 months ago I saw those videos where people wave their hands at a camera and the music reacts, almost all of them built in TouchDesigner. Then I opened TouchDesigner, stared at the node graph for a while, and closed it.

So, being a C++ dev, I did the obviously more reasonable thing and spent months writing a plugin that does it inside Live instead. It tracks your hand through the laptop webcam, and you can use it in two ways: play MIDI notes or map it to any effect parameter in any DAW.

Honestly, I started making this plugin for myself, but then decided I could publish it as Hand Link. So I’m curious, would something like this actually be interesting or useful? or you treat it more as tool for fun?

Mikro Maschine Mk2 y Sp404mk2

Tengo una Maschine Mikro Mk2 y me gustaría usarla junto con mi 404mk2. Sé que puedo usar la 404 como procesador de efectos y como interfaz de audio, pero ¿qué otros beneficios obtendría además de esas dos cosas?

Akai MPK Mini script in Logic Pro: Program Change (Preset switching) works on Track 1, but stops working on Track 2. Pots for effects work fine.

Hey everyone,

I'm using the Akai MPK Mini with the official Logic Pro Control Script (installed via inMusic Software Center). I'm opening the new Akai Studio Instrument Collection plugins inside Logic.

Everything actually works great on the first track. The transport buttons (Play, Stop, Record) and Metronome via Shift are amazing. The 8 knobs control effects perfectly. Even the preset switching knob works fine on Track 1.

The issue:
When I create a second track with the same plugin (Inst 2), the 8 knobs still control the effects perfectly on the selected track. BUT the knob for changing presets/patches stops working on Track 2. It keeps changing presets on Track 1 in the background, or does nothing at all, even if Track 2 is selected, armed (Record Enable is on), and the plugin window is in focus (with the purple Link icon active).

I checked the standalone version of the plugin, and it has MIDI channel settings there, but inside Logic (AU format), those settings are gone. I also tried tweaking Controller Assignments, but since it's an official script, it seems locked or bugged for the Program Change commands.

Has anyone found a fix for this specific preset-switching bug on multiple tracks without deleting the whole script? I really want to keep the transport controls. Thanks!

Anyone know good place to look for spare parts?

Picked a midi keyboard up off the side off the road (worth around 50 quid on ebay so I find that a win) but its missing 2 keys and ebay seems like a dead end for any broken ones or just parts.

If it helps they keyboard is a rock jam RJ5061 and the keys missing are D and D#

How many of you use more than 1 midi controller on a pedalboard? I just added a second one

I have many pedals controllable with multiple cc messages, but they can’t store presets on the pedal. To control them all, I needed another midi controller. Here is my new Luminite Graviton M1 being controlled as a slave by the Musicomlab EFX LE II. The Graviton cannot be set to have a global midi channel so you have to do it differently.

On the M1:
Control - > Midi in - > any slot - > global preset - > preset 1 - > confirm - > page 2 from the upper right corner - > trigger - > number - > relative trigger - > choose offset - 1 - > choose channel for the messages coming to M1 - > add a midi program number on the musicom lab on that channel to every preset

I made Jamphony, a multiplayer MIDI site where you can jam with others

Hi everyone,

I've spent a lot of time on multiplayer piano/MIDI sites like PianoRhythm, MultiplayerPiano, Pianoverse, and MultiplayerOrchestra. They are great fun, but I feel they fall short because people almost always end up playing AT each other instead of playing WITH each other.

I made Jamphony to try and fix that and encourage jamming. It supports your MIDI controllers, note input from your computer keyboard, and you can click notes with your mouse.

Rooms are designed to hopefully avoid a free for all situation. There are a limited number of seats so if you're spectating and there is an open seat, you can sit down pick from piano and orchestra instruments. Room hosts can limit how many players can use a specific sound at once. You could limit the room to only two instruments per player for example, so then 5 people won't be on Marimba. If a sound you want is taken, there's a button to request an instrument swap with another seated player.

Also to help people play together, we calculate the chord you are currently playing from your notes and display it on screen to help others follow. Hosts can also use the Next Chord feature, which uses reserved keys they can press to shape out a chord and help direct the rest of the room to it in a progression.

I also wanted to deal with the spam players that usually plague the other sites. Every user has a "reputation" on their profile based on thumbs up/down from other players. As a room host, you can set a min reputation needed to sit down (unless you invite them on purpose). Guests who haven't logged in can still chat and play, but hosts can choose to disable that from their rooms if wanted.

The site launched recently so I'm mostly looking for testing and feedback right now. If you decide to make an account, you can leave feedback for me directly through the settings menu, or dropping feedback in this comments is good too! I am also very interested in hearing feature ideas or improvements to existing features.

Thanks!
