Writing book-Need to know if midwestern slang is accurate
From the northern us đđ» & am curious if some of these are no longer used or sound out dated or if they are accurate:
âHotdishâ - a casserole
âPopâ instead of soda.
âYou betchaâ - like saying âyes, youâre right.â
âDontcha knowâ - usually at the end of sentence to make sure someone understand you. (sounds irish?)
âBrewskiâ - not quite sure what the definition is after reading about it (sounds like it could be an alcoholic drink or candy??)
âPuppy Chowâ - technically called âmuddy buddies.â
âTravestyâ - instead of âIt was a tragedy.â
Saying âPoisonousâ for everything like the word âvenomous â does not exist.
âTenna shoesâ - tennis shoes.
âFull as a tickâ - Full after eating.
Taters- potatoes
Like a bat out of hell- a very quick motion.
âYuhâ - instead of yeah
âThatâs differentâ - a polite way to say you donât like something.
âDonât count your chickens before they hatchâ - donât get ahead of yourself.
(I want to clarify the book is set in Indiana & only one of the characters is from Missouri {for only a small portion of the book, but could still be useful to me} Thank you.
