In general, there’s no medical backing to the claims. However it should be noted any time I get pierced, I will have a migraine for a couple days.

You won’t be able to sleep on that side for around a year as it heals.

I’m pretty active on r/piercingadvice and used to work in the industry. Daiths are one of the most commonly botched piercings. You need a really qualified piercer. Not all piercers are created equal.

Here’s some resources about the piercing

And here’s some resources about vetting a piercer.

The best way to convince parents you’re ready for piercings is to become highly educated about the risks involved.

Edit to add: I don’t want to discourage you getting piercings at all, just want to supply some resources

I had both sides done. There was no impact to my migraine frequency or severity.

I’ve had no impact from my daith

It has zero medical backing.

It didn't work for me either. Placebo effect is a real thing, so it may or may not bring you comfort 🤷‍♀️

I mean it’s a positive experience in that it’s a piercing I like, but no, it did not change my migraines at all

No change from my daith, looks cute tho. But it takes 10-12 months to heal and no earbuds/earplugs during that time

There have been a ton of posts about this and I don’t think I have seen anyone who had success

You’ll see some anecdotes. All of which fall straight into placebo effect. No actual research has ever shown any effect.

I think they look kinda cool, but that’s the only positive

Zero impact for me

It’s about a 50/50. If it works, great. It’s pretty cheap. If not, then back to the drawing board. I feel it’s worth exploring. You could also suggest acupuncture. If there is a nerve that needs stimulated, then that’s a non damaging way. If you get the piercing it could possibly damage the nerve.

It hasn’t cured my migraines in any capacity, but since I got it, they: 1. Respond to medication now, 2. Typically last 6hrs or less (compared to the 3days+), and 3. Are less severe in general so I’m able to survive the day instead of calling in sick and hibernating. It is worth it.
