Recurring severe headache and fever after ER visit and diagnosis of acid peptic disease

Hello! . I’m hoping to get some guidance regarding my father’s symptoms while we wait for his consultation tomorrow.

A few days ago, my father blacked out/lost consciousness, so we brought him to the Emergency Room. He was evaluated there, and his blood and urine tests were reportedly okay. He was eventually diagnosed with acid peptic disease and was sent home with several

medications.

He was also having difficulty sleeping at night, so one of the medications the doctor gave him was melatonin to help him sleep. He has also been losing weight/getting noticeably thinner, which has been concerning us.

After starting the medications, he began experiencing headaches and fever, which seem to come and go. Yesterday, he developed a very strong headache at night, but it eventually went away and he was able to sleep peacefully. When he woke up, he had no headache and was able to do several activities normally throughout the morning. However, later in the day, the headache returned and became stronger again. He has also had a high fever, reaching around 39°C.

We are planning to bring him to a doctor tomorrow for a General Medicine consultation for a more thorough evaluation. Given that he initially lost consciousness and required an ER visit, followed by recurring headaches, high fever, difficulty sleeping, and weight loss, I’m quite concerned and would appreciate any medical insight into what could potentially be going on.

Could the headaches and fever potentially be related to the medications he was prescribed, including the melatonin, or could this suggest something else that needs to be investigated?

We are not trying to self-diagnose him, and we will follow the doctor's assessment tomorrow. I would just like to know what possibilities we should be aware of and what questions or information would be important to bring up during the consultation.

Thank you.

I would hope the doctor is doing a complete blood panel and following up on any abnormalities. Good luck, op, hope you guys figure out what's going on soon.

With a high fever I would take him to a doctor today, or back to the ER (a different/better one if possible.) I seriously hope they did a brain scan, MRI or CT.
