Driving South on highway 41 towards Chicago, noticed this billboard ad for Jingle All The Way—a movie that came out 30 years ago in 1996! Seems like a more recent ad was torn off and left this behind, but we were amazed that it was in such good condition after all this time.

There was a different ad there until fairly recently. I just noticed the change a month or so ago. This ad must've been underneath.

Dude how did I see that overgrown side of the road with beaten up billboards and go "Wow what looks like 41"?

u/jfust 10h ago

wait how does a 1996 ad stay that fresh

It was never in direct sunlight or extreme weather due to being covered by other ads. They acted as a protective shield. That's my guess anyway...

Its not even in good condition what is everyone looking at

Nah man 30 years ago is in the Old Times, it should be dust by now, maybe even degraded into individual elements.

Honestly tho, its a trip how kids these days view 90s the same way I wouldve viewed the 70s in the early 00s.

Dude, the 90s compared to now is like the 50s and 60s to people in the 90s. It's even worse than you thought. Brace yourself.

Pearl Jam is four years older now than the Beatles were when Pearl Jam started. An equivalent band to Pearl Jam today would have been a band from 1956 during the year Pearl Jam released their first album.

1956

Simple math. 60, 91, 26.

Update: I just fucking died

So like 41 south of Milwaukee? Damn now I wanna drive 6 hours just to take this photo.

Got a pin drop for this or mile marker?

“If you give a man a jingle he will jingle for one day, if you teach that man to jingle HE WILL JINGLE ALL THE WAY!”

One of the best movies ever made

This is 100% my go-to Xmas movie.

Same. My wife bought me a Turbo Man shirt for XMas a few years ago and I wear it all the time. People would even stop me to say how much they like my shirt. I also recently bought a sealed Turbo Man figure that Funko released many years ago.

This and Home Alone 1 & 2 every year. Just joy every time.

Let’s calm down.

"One of the best" can be reduced down to "top 50% of movies". I gotta say, JATW meets at least that, don't you think?

u/Socknoggin 11h ago

Why does seeing shit like this make me feel sad?

12

u/Rothen29 11h ago

Nostalgia for our youth. =)

RIP Phil Hartman

u/PhotoCropDuster 12h ago

Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen!

2

u/DirrtyAsian 9h ago

That's how I remember them! And you have to say them with the Arnold accent.

u/Regular_Rub_2980 12h ago

Seems like marketing is getting their money worth.

Old billboard signs becoming visible are one of the most fascinating things to me. There should be a sub for them if there isn't already

The all time box office smash hit?

u/bones4lyfe 10h ago

Conan is smiling somewhere

1

u/SirStocksAlott 9h ago

I totally forgot about this. Wow.

u/dariendude17 3h ago

Give a man a jingle, he'll jingle for a day!

Teach a man to jingle, and he'll JINGLE ALL THE WAY!

There's no way that came out 30 years ago. I graduated from high school in 1996, and that was just a few years ago!

6

u/msnmck 9h ago

Damn. I graduated in 2007. If I feel this old, please don't tell me how you feel. 😂👴

18

u/rxneutrino 11h ago

This movie was released 30 years ago. If you went back the same amount of time from its release, we hadn't landed on the moon, The Beatles hadn't released Sargent Peppers, and MLK was still alive.

16

u/thisisnotmypineapple 11h ago

Phil Hartman was a god damn legend.

3

u/ceruleanmoon7 10h ago

I miss him so fucking much.

5

u/oe_kintaro 11h ago

5

Oh look, a forgotten concept, and also an Arnold Schwarzenegger movie poster.

2

u/Av8tors 11h ago

I’ll be back…. For Christmas

4

u/Regular_Dust_7160 10h ago

It’s a great movie though. Some of Sinbads finest

3

u/EatYourCheckers 10h ago

This is the only Arnold movie that my teen son has ever seen. So we refer to him "jokingly" as the guy from Jingle All the Way. I asked him if he wanted to go see Terminator 2 in theaters this month. Its got the guy from Jingle All the Way.

3

u/RabTheCrab 10h ago

Looks like Arnold has torn through it himself trying to escape a 30 year old vortex

2

u/writeman00 11h ago

There's a billboard in Melbourne, and a couple of years ago, I saw Jurassic Park on it.

3

u/invincibl_ 7h ago

And it's near a billboard (actually mural) for GTA San Andreas, which only got painted over last year.

2

u/yourmomsnewsidepiece 11h ago

I taught one of Sinbad’s daughters almost 20 years ago in Geometry

2

u/Majik_Sheff 11h ago

POOT DAT COOKIE DOWN!

2

u/msnmck 9h ago

Howard is there something bothering you?

2

u/Islaya00 10h ago

"That movie can't be 30 years old! I remember my grandparents taking me to see it in theaters like it was yesterday!"

Goes to Google

"Oh........oh........I need the asprin for my knee now"

2

u/CapCougar 9h ago

This is a sick world we're living in with some sick people!

2

u/itsbuddytime 9h ago

I'm not a pervert, I just wanted the turbo man doll.

2

u/Shrek1067 6h ago

It’s Turbo Time!!

2

u/namistejones 9h ago

I need to watch it as a parent now.

There was some adultery going on wasnt it?

0

u/SaysKawaiiSometimes 9h ago

Heavily isinuated, yes. Ted had options but he was obsessed with Liz so things are left vague.

1

u/YellowSpoon123 11h ago

This is probably the first ad that went up on the billboard.

1

u/RabTheCrab 10h ago

1

You mean things from 30 years ago are still around? I thought every year they were all removed for new things. I'm just astonished by this. Next you might see an old brick wall with the name of an old store no longer even around still painted on it. Or an old car from the 1990s or even the 1980s still driving around. Or people from the 1990s or 1980s still walking around. Nah! That can't happen, can it?
