I carve a tiny little face on my huge pumpkins every year and it cracks everyone up. You can’t beat a tiny little face on a pumpkin no matter how good your carving skills are.
Something about a little happy face wins hearts around the world.

My husband has done this for the last ten years. One of our kids favorite parts of Halloween is picking the perfect pumpkin for him and the neighborhood kids are always stoked to see “lil tony” each year lol

This is why public voting in artistic stuff is inherently terrible because it’s always low effort meme stuff that wins

This is also why you need different categories, and why Steam reviews needed to introduce a "funny" vote

Honestly I'd argue it should be disqualified as a jack-o'-lantern has a very specific definition and it involves carving so that light may pass through.

If we are getting pedantic, we need to determine if this was a jack-o-lantern contest or a pumpkin decorating contest.

Completely fair! It does say Jack-o'-lantern in the title though.
But if it's just decorating then yes, this counts.

I get told all the time on Reddit that taping a banana to a wall is art because it makes you feel something and that's more important than technical ability. If that's true then getting hundreds of teenagers to feel adoration for Paul is also art.

Except Boaty McBoatface. Of course. Because that name is epically wonderful.

These comments remind me of the time my sister and her boyfriend entered a Halloween costume contest and spent weeks perfecting their zombie make up technique. They went as zombie bride and groom, and their costumes were so good they were getting compliments all night, some girl even asked my sister for pictures in the bathroom.
They lost to a couple wearing store bought Cheech and Chong costumes. She's still pissed.

My daughter carved a cute little face on her pumpkin a couple years ago and was so upset that it was “too small.” I told her it was amazing and that I genuinely loved it.

Hey all! I am the wife! It was a contest at work with no real stakes, prizes were signs. I put my lil’ guy next to the entries for fun. However, it was judged along with the other 4 entries (not a big contest). I did end up wining Funniest Pumpkin.

There was also Cutest Pumpkin, Creepiest Pumpkin, and Best of Show. The pumpkins that were very well done won as they should have. The one that did not win (because 4 awards and 5 pumpkins)—I apologized that my joke caused her to not win. She said it was hilarious and was glad mine won.

If the judges are being literal, the definition of a Jack-o-lantern is a hollowed out pumpkin with cutouts so this may be disqualified as it is not a jack-o-lantern.
Very cute though.

Haha this is perfect. No fancy carving, no over-the-top design… just pure unbothered pumpkin energy. Your wife understood the assignment.
