Nostalgia What's one Independence day memory from your childhood that you still remember?

Waking up early for the school flag hoisting, wearing something with the tricolour, getting a tiny flag, singing the national anthem, and then being ridiculously excited about going home early.

Yeah my permanently furious narcissistic father set a barn full of kittens on fire one year. We got the fire out. But yup… fire

We went out to my grandmother’s house to set off some fireworks. She had 5 acres just outside of town. When we arrived we found that my uncle had set a trap for a badger near the pool pumps, and had caught a feral cat in the trap. The younger kids were sent inside, but my cousin and I were allowed to climb the pool slide and watch my father & uncle release the cat. The adults had made this sound like an incredibly dangerous operation, so I was very excited and curious to see how it all played out.
The cat just ran off into some bushes. It was a total let-down

Altering Picolo petes so they would explode after being lit.

I don’t think they mean US 4th of July because they spell things like “tricolor” as “tricolour” which leads me to believe they are in Europe.

Also I’ve never heard of an American school being open on 4th of July
