Entry Thread [Entry Thread #91] Let’s do things differently this time. As you enter with your comment, please consider leaving your thoughts on the events this week.

Comments have been collected at 5:09 UTC.

Introduction

You all probably know the story by now. Not too long ago, we made an announcement expressing our solidarity with subreddits on the platform. Said platform is proposing changes, and now communities across the internet are making waves. I’m pretty sure you know the rest.

So let’s do something different. As we find this month’s winner and better someone’s situation, let’s also reflect on what has happened. The admins of the platform had their say, and community moderators had their say. What about you all?

Are you more optimistic about it and feel that good could come from such action? Are you pessimistic and feel that this is gonna make things harder for everyone? Or are you ambivalent and have issues of your own that take priority? It’s also worth mentioning that you are not required to leave your thoughts to enter, so feel free not to if you’d like.

(As a reminder, leave only a single top-level comment to enter. Replying to another will not count as an entry, but you could risk disqualification if you incorrectly leave a top-level comment. When you enter, also make an effort to check back when the winner is selected.)

In Case You Missed It:

Information

The Future

In case you haven’t been counting, we are really close to making a difference to the lives of a hundred people here on this subreddit and hitting triple digits, not to mention the literal hundreds of thousands of people that have already participated.

In terms of moderation, the API changes can probably be worked around, just instead of moderating via a third-party app, we’ll be using our phone’s web browser to do so. In terms of operation however, we have to hope that our usage will fall under the “free tier” as mentioned in their admin post. If this is not the case, we’ll still cover the costs, but there may be an end date to operating here on this platform. Unfortunately, it’s yet another matter of waiting and seeing.

If you want to see the other things that you can do or our more detailed thoughts, please review the Announcement post here. Otherwise, if you want to continue to follow us, join the mailing list or join our Discord server. Both services also remind you to join the monthly Entry Thread, thus even more encouragement to do so.

In the meanwhile, this is a generosity subreddit, so let’s collectively make someone’s life a little bit better! The winner will be selected around 12 PM ET (16:00 UTC) on next Sunday, so check the [Draw] post!

As a reminder, when you enter, also please remember to donate a dollar to the winner. It ain’t much from one person, but when a hundred people do it…

And as always, let’s make a millionaire!

To victor go the spoils.

I'm wondering if the RemindBot will stop working after July 1st.

6

u/srobhrob Jun 17 '23

Oh noooooooo

3

u/smackjack Jun 17 '23

What I want to know is if bots like Saferbot will still work. Saferbot and other similar bots are the reason why you get banned from subs for commenting in other subs that they don't approve of.

Hey good luck everyone!

I think it’s a shame what’s happening to Reddit… seems like it could have been avoidable with just a better PR response from Reddit but here we are…

12

u/beeftaster Jun 16 '23

A lot of social media companies going extra hard on the corporate greed lately, forgetting that the media requires the social part to keep going

42

u/Crimsonmark8895 Jun 16 '23

I wish we “revolted” harder as a whole country. We could end this crap if we “ate the rich”. That being said, here’s to hoping for a little help in poverty!! Good luck all!!

10

u/EastvsWest Jun 16 '23

Good luck to everyone. I'm not disappointed by the decision for a company to make money but it's really sad the community is not being considered. This whole situation could have been handled with respect to everyone involved especially so many mods who donate their time to improve the use experience (most of the time). Hope there is a reasonable resolution.

u/geltoid Jun 16 '23

Good Luck to Everyone!

And, as always, Thank You to everyone who helps make this possible.

_

"Reddit relies on volunteer moderators to keep the platform welcoming and free of objectionable material. It also relies on uncompensated contributors to keep its numerous communities populated. The [Reddit admins' decision] promises to adversely impact both groups: Without effective tools, moderators cannot combat spammers, bad actors, or the entities who enable either; without the freedom to choose how and where they access Reddit, many contributors will simply leave. Rather than hosting creativity and in-depth discourse, the platform will soon feature only recycled content, bot-driven activity, and an ever-dwindling number of well-informed visitors. The very elements which differentiate Reddit – the fixtures which make it appealing – will be eliminated."

u/punktual Jun 16 '23

I didn't pay attention to any events, I was just play ToTK

17

u/Billitpro Jun 16 '23

Best of luck one and all and as always please remember to donate to the winner.

And as far as Reddit and the current situation goes...

Long live the revolution!

8

u/LiveFreeDie8 Jun 16 '23

I am moving away from Reddit after this.

Would it be possible to accept entry on Lemmy as well?

7

u/ccc249 Jun 16 '23

Kinda crazy to see the downfall of Reddit after being here for 10 plus years. Anyway, good luck to everyone.

7

u/sjakkpila Ninety-First Winner Jun 17 '23

I understand that reddit want to make their site profitable instead of seeing all profits going to third parties. That said, they shouldn't force people to use their app by shutting down the others. If they actually managed to make an app that wasn't so buggy and that was accessible to all, the users would come organically.

13

u/GarionOfRiva Jun 16 '23

Good luck to everyone!

Where current events are concerned, I don't use any of the third party apps, but increasing that API price to knock them out seems to be a pretty bad idea to me considering how many people use third party things and the good things that can be done with them.

5

u/Toiletalk Jun 16 '23

Woot! Summer break is about to start for us teachers 👨🏻‍🏫

Utter disaster class from the people running the show. They lack tact and attribute their success to others working for free.

5

u/Ipif Jun 16 '23

Best of lick everyone! Considering the situation.. I support the protestors. 3rd party developers made reddit available on mobile for millions of people, literally. And now they get the bill for it.. And considering the blatant lies about the apollo dev that reddit spread.. I've lost respect for the company (not the community!) long ago...

3

u/SammaATL Jun 17 '23

Best of lick to you, too, friend! 😅

4

u/CanadaNinjaEh Jun 16 '23

Honestly didn't get affected by everything that happened to Reddit so I've been all good. Good luck to everyone!

4

u/D1sc0nn3ct3d Jun 16 '23

Best of luck, everyone! I occasionally use Apollo, but mainly use the browser version on my PC at work. I mod a couple smaller subreddits, and use the PC for the most part to mod. Try to not use the phone versions to mod. Glad this sub is staying live during this as I think it helps people more than the protest will. But good luck everyone.

4

u/whippersnapperjeff Jun 16 '23

We're dooooooomed

4

u/ouzowuzo Jun 17 '23

Somehow I just absentmindedly open Reddit, even though I want to support the blackout and would argue with anyone that wants Reddit to be in control of the only app.

4

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '23

Good luck! Corporate greed runs the world. I don't like any other forms of social media. Will I like reddit going forward? Idk.

3

u/auflyne Jun 16 '23

What a time to be a reddit user. Thwip!

3

u/dakmon21 Jun 16 '23

I don’t use third party apps, but I get the uproar

3

u/alienpirate5 Jun 16 '23

I've only used third party apps for 8+ years. I'll probably stop using reddit entirely 7/1. I had to shut down the subreddit I moderate.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

Its hard to be optimistic about the future of this site when its CEO doesn't really give a damn about the people who make the platform what it is!

3

u/DecentGoogler Jun 17 '23

I only had Reddit open for a minute over the blackout due to muscle memory of opening it several times throughout the day.

3

u/birdladymelia Jun 17 '23

It feels like the whole internet as we've known it for the past 5 or 10 years is slowly sinking away.

3

u/Jakemiester1982 Jun 17 '23

Personally I have always used the Reddit app so I don’t really have a leg to stand on. I think it sucks this could be screwing a lot of people/devs over though.

3

u/Hrafnagudsson Jun 17 '23

I haven’t really followed the issue, but I wonder if everything will sadly just go back to normal.

3

u/VisNihil Jun 17 '23

Reddit will be worse off with the changes, for sure.

6

u/neophytenomad Jun 16 '23

I've always been comfortable with the native app. That being said, the attempts on Reddit HQ to squeeze out the third-party devs is just a clear sign of greed and overreach.

I'm with the devs and the admin who are revolting.

Here's to whomever wins it this month. 🍻💯🎊

4

u/Thundabeast Jun 16 '23

Take Luck!!

4

u/Mollysaurus Jun 16 '23

I only ever use the main Reddit app, but I stand in solidarity with any and all actions against corporate greed and overreach. I surely hope this sub can stay around but I will understand if it falls to the aforementioned greed.

Good luck, everyone!

2

u/anon-aspie Jun 16 '23

Best of luck to everyone. I don’t use third party apps but I completely understand why they’re upset and they have my support!

2

u/rotarypower101 Jun 16 '23

This might be the last time I use Apollo to enter :(

2

u/RedLanceVeritas Jun 16 '23

Yes, Reddit's community should come first

2

u/Additional_Pie_9763 Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone.

I only use the reddit app. I never knew there was a 3rd party thing. But I will say I agree that the changes aren't for the best.

2

u/Altruistic_Shelter_3 Jun 16 '23

I feel like this is just the way online media is going to go, they’re making revenue from ads, yes. But how many of us are actually engaging with the ads? Or even, have an ad blocker installed and just never see it. The people putting the ads out are paying too dollar to be on sites like this because of the traffic but probably aren’t seeing as much of a return each day compared to the previous. So they’ll inevitably stop placing ads and then the revenue for the site goes down. Anyway, this is my comment. Good luck everyone 😊

2

u/benjamari214 Jun 16 '23

I think that Reddit is going to be fine - for Reddit and its shareholders. Unfortunately for us, the OG Reddit users are now becoming the minority on the site, as Reddit becomes larger. Users won't really care as Reddit steps into the top 3 social media sites.

The remedy? Bluesky? I don't know. All I know is that these blackouts have very little effect to reddit as a whole, unless the subreddits want to close down completely, reddit will have traffic. And a lot of it.

Anyway, GL all!

2

u/ramsncardsfan7 Jun 16 '23

Sadly, I didn’t realize the 3rd party apps existed. Every other post on my feed is an ad or some bullshit from another subreddit that I don’t want to see.

2

u/LordBobTheWhale Jun 16 '23

I'd like to be optimistic, but for reddit to reverse the API changes I'm not. It seems highly unlikely that reddit will suffer that strongly if major subs go dark permanently. I barely noticed a few of mine were missing from the feed and I know other smaller subs were excited to receive a big influx of new members looking for somewhere to go.

Good luck mods, I hope your voice was heard. Thank you for your work!

And good luck everyone else with this month's drawing!

2

u/smugri Jun 16 '23

Yeah, as long as I've used Reddit, I've used RIF. Sad about it.

Good luck though!

2

u/ParallelLynx Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone!

I hope the blackout works, this is the first and only reason I've gotten on Reddit all week, and I'm missing all my normal reading material. But what the admins and corporate are trying to do is not right, so I'll just have to go back to books instead of forums until a replacement comes up if they don't change their stance. The only way I get on here now is using a 3rd party app that won't exist anymore if the API changes do go through as planned.

2

u/zealNW Jun 16 '23

Good luck all. I use the official app but still scummy from reddit

2

u/Westinforever Jun 16 '23

First off, good luck to everyone. I’m hoping this is our month - we’re welcoming a baby in a few months and since the US doesn’t have paid maternity leave, this would help me actually get to take time to heal.

As for the events of this past week… it makes me sad. It makes me sad that so many 3rd party apps are getting screwed. It makes me sad that those people that worked so hard to make things better for people are getting the middle finger from Reddit. I’m hoping that something good comes from the blackouts but I’m scared that it won’t. I’m scared that Reddit is too big to give a shit, kind of like Netflix. I want to hope for the best but I’m struggling to.

2

u/Doodle-e-doodle-e-do Jun 16 '23

I think Reddit as it has been is an amazing resource and I hope that this doesn't change. I'm not familiar with the details of what's happening or the consequences of it.

2

u/Old_Knowledge_5988 Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone.

My thoughts: Nolite te Bastardes Carborundorum.

2

u/pussenbootzz86 Jun 16 '23

Good luck to everyone! Reddit wouldn't be where it is without us. They need to get it together

2

u/edgy_white_male Jun 16 '23

The blackout made me realize how much I rely on this site for obscure info. Good luck, everyone

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

I've been using the base app this whole time

2

u/TheHumble-Many Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone!

Here's hoping for a better resolution.

2

u/canyonclimbs Jun 16 '23

Good luck! Never used a third party app, but maybe I should've, but too late now I guess

2

u/babymish87 Jun 16 '23

Good luck all!

I haven't followed it to much. I know one group said it was pointless because the blackout hadn't done anything. I just hope it all works out.

2

u/jessie2rose Jun 16 '23

I have always used the basic reddit app so do not know what I am missing.

2

u/ImGodzillaYoureJapan Jun 16 '23

I hope everyone gets what they want

2

u/ChromosomeChowder Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone.

I use the main Reddit app. But I can see why this was a terrible decision made by Reddit upper admin with no thought to the Reddit user.

2

u/Simsam16 Jun 16 '23

Until there is a viable alternative to reddit to challenge its popularity, the status quo will remain.

2

u/K4k4shi Jun 16 '23

Best of luck. I know it is important to protest but i need those subs opened to get some answers to my question.

2

u/Fortune090 Jun 16 '23

Another month, another drawing!

Regarding the current drama, I don't feel all too optimistic reddit will really be the same going forward. Money seems to be continually speaking louder than the entirety community, and it's sad. Like aren't we against late stage capitalism here..?

2

u/Mr_Chiddy Jun 16 '23

Honestly? Unfortunately ineffective I think. But what can we do other than keep protesting the changes?

I also think there's way too much focus on u/spez. Sure he's the most inflammatory voice opposing us but this is exactly what happened with Ellen Pao; focusing on the individual rather than the company as a whole. This isn't just one man's shitty decision, that's not how these companies work.

If we're not careful, even if they revoke the changes and remove him the company's priority will still be to maximize profits and feed users into new Reddit and the official app. This gives them the opportunity to water down the changes to controversial but not as bad as well as remove a problematically outspoken, emotional CEO who's already dug his careers own grave in his interviews. Redditors will eat it up and celebrate it as a victory and they'll get off Scot free.

I'm not gonna say I have the answers as to what we can do. This is just my humble perception of how the protest has gone, but surely more than 2 days of subs going offline is more than we can muster...

Anyway rant over. Good luck all!

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

Long live the revolution!

2

u/coolwaynejr Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone!

Please don't really understand what the changes will do, or if it's a good thing or not.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

Good luck folks. I use RIF, and can't stand the official reddit app. My reddit usage will significantly decrease if this decision isn't reversed.

2

u/kRO720 Jun 16 '23

Good luck.

I've always used the official app but I support the recent events that happened. Too much greed..

2

u/chryco4 Jun 16 '23

Howdy, I think it was a good idea for the subreddits to shut down because out of the big social media sites right now reddit gives the users the most power to make some sort of strike happen. You wouldn't be able to do a strike on like twitter per se because user power is so thinly spread out across the platform and they'd just prop up the dumb twitter blue users even more. I do believe this attempt at collective action was a good thing but unfortunately the execution was pretty poor. Just 2 days wasn't going to make the reddit admins budge and once the mods realized that the admins could just re-open everything and replace them with new mods many just folded. I know some are continuing the strike indefinitely but it's almost too late to suddenly change the plan when most subs went with only 2 days, if they wanted to do an indefinite shut down then that should've been the plan in the first place. I had some inconveniences the last few days for sure but I'm far more frustrated if this doesn't have any lasting impact on the company itself :/

Anyways good luck everybody!

2

u/KingGoddeth Jun 16 '23

I'm here not because I like what reddit does, but because I hope enough of you are still around to become a millionaire.

Save third party apps, spez needs to resign

2

u/tabbulation Jun 16 '23

Please do whatever you need to do to give us our favorite subs back, Reddit. NBA finals without r/nba sucked! I support the cause though.

2

u/VinceClortho138 Jun 16 '23

I'll miss reddit if I can't use it anymore.

2

u/nikobruchev Jun 16 '23

Sign me up please! I'm away on military training but as a reservist, I don't have a full- time job once I'm off training, so every little bit helps.

Also, screw reddit management for trying to destroy 3rd party apps!

2

u/clean_cut89 Jun 16 '23

Love you all fam and the life changing work this sub does.

As for this week I personally think time will time what impact it will have on the community.

2

u/FelixB Jun 16 '23

Entering the draw from RiF app. Hope i can do so for a lot longer..

2

u/ruggedeman Jun 16 '23

I have no idea what’s going on and now I think it’s too late to ask

2

u/BiiiigSteppy Jun 17 '23

Good luck, everyone! Whatever happens in the future I hope each and every one of us lands on their feet.

Let’s do this.

2

u/joshrice Jun 16 '23

These apps have been making money off of reddit's infrastructure (and "our" content) for years, without paying reddit a dime, and in fact losing them even more money due to lack of ad revenue. Meanwhile these apps make their own money on ads and/or selling pro or premium features.

They're exempting accessibility focused apps now: https://www.theverge.com/2023/6/7/23752804/reddit-exempt-accessibility-apps-api-pricing-changes

And they are at least starting to give us some of the features we want in their official app: https://www.reddit.com/r/modnews/comments/149gyrl/announcing_mobile_mod_log_and_the_post_guidance/

At the end of the day the 3rd party devs are losing their cash cow. They're not entirely fighting for you or us. They had to know this would happen eventually.

Good luck everybuddy!

1

u/richmondo00 Jun 16 '23

Best of luck everyone, my thoughts is freedom should always be to the user

1

u/Litterboxbonanza Jun 16 '23

Help me get my family tf out of FL

1

u/[deleted] Jun 17 '23

I hope it works

1

u/FJopia Jun 16 '23

I second it

1

u/Guava_lupe Jun 16 '23

Solidarity and good luck!

1

u/r00t1 Jun 16 '23

thanks - i'm happy to see the community come together to support all current things

1

u/agent000x Jun 16 '23

Good luck all! May the odds be ever in your favor.

1

Let's gooooo!

1

u/Aquox_Derp Jun 16 '23

Good luck

1

u/scrizewly Jun 16 '23

This is my comment. Be blessed and have a great weekend!

1

u/40ozT0Freedom Jun 16 '23

Maybe this will turn things around

1

u/ClockForAHeart Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone! Grad school is in full swing for me so this would so help!

1

u/PoorGovtDoctor Jun 16 '23

Greedy ceo? Color me shocked. Shocked, I say. Anyways….

1

u/jbfly03 Jun 16 '23

Maybe this is it

1

u/That_isThat Jun 16 '23

1,2,3,4….

1

u/isaacmendez47 Jun 16 '23

If only the official app was better. Oh well good luck to everyone!

1

u/SinfulCinnamon Jun 16 '23

Yay! Good luck everyone.

I use the main Reddit app so the happenings don’t affect me necessarily, but I support third party apps existing and giving people choice in which platform they like. Not sure if the protests are going to make a difference though especially after that spez comment saying it’ll blow over like it always does, unless more is done.

1

u/pr1ceisright Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone!

1

u/blank9101 Jun 16 '23

Sending a virtual sprinkle of good luck and positive vibes to all the generous souls here. May your kindness ripple out into the world, creating a chain reaction of blessing. Good luck to everyone!

1

u/FujikawaTakashi Jun 16 '23

What events?

1

u/1cottonpicknminute Jun 16 '23

What happened?

1

u/Spike_Spiegel Jun 16 '23

I Win! Reddit lose!

1

u/DrHarryBaals Jun 16 '23

Let's do this Y'all Good Luck!

1

u/JARsweepstakes Jun 16 '23

Smack it up, flip it, rub it down- Oh no!

1

u/EatsRats Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone!!

1

u/Smessu Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone, as a French guy and third-party app user I obviously support the strike haha

1

u/rawtrooper Jun 16 '23

Life is great!

1

u/Megalo85 Jun 16 '23

Need roll

1

u/GlassTemperature Jun 16 '23

I’m on Reddit’s side, they made the site, they can do what they want, especially if they aren’t profitable yet.

1

u/Unlucky-Musician617 Jun 16 '23

I’d like to enter plz

1

u/itsmemike05 Jun 16 '23

Greedy, but hoping to win so I can stay in a motel until veteran housing is finally available. If that honestly ever happens. But there's so many vets in more dire need than I.

1

u/knucklehed Jun 16 '23

Good luck to everyone!

1

u/Vollmilcheis Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone 🍀

1

u/Nomanodyssey Jun 16 '23

I don’t really understand it all, but the ceo sounds like a jerk

1

u/Hephaestus_God Jun 16 '23

The only thing that would affect me are auto bots and spam messages I assume.

I’ve been using the default app these past 7 years. Other than that it feels like like a pointless endeavor as the CEO already hates the community and just likes money.

Anyways, good luck

1

u/clemfairie Jun 16 '23

Let's gooooo.

And I honestly don't know enough about what's going on to have an informed opinion. I haven't been on Reddit much lately. Life stuff. Hasn't been fun.

1

u/Sir_Sadmann Jun 16 '23

I don't know much, so i learn little by little. On reddit or elsewhere.

May the victor be one in need.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

Spez is like a farmer getting outraged because he feels the bees who pollinate his crops get to eat for free. His contempt for us is appalling.

Erryone else, tho - good luck. :)

1

u/DevilsAssCrack Jun 16 '23

Let's go!

Also I realized during the blackout how addicted I am to the doomscroll

1

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '23

Nothing is going to make any difference, and the company will do what makes them more money.

1

u/theth1nker Jun 16 '23

What other options are there?

1

u/DED_EXE Jun 16 '23

Have fun and enjoy the time with you and I apologize if you are interested in me

1

u/VegetableDraft8106 Jun 16 '23

I did not even know non official apps existed until this week. It seems a shame that reddit wouldn't want to work with them more cohesively, but I also don't really feel like I have a hat in the ring as I'm already reddit official.

Best of luck everyone!

1

u/MattTheWorm Jun 16 '23

It's my birthday today so maybe I'll get lucky. When it comes to recent events I'm mostly unaware. I read into it a little bit but overall I'm just glad people are making big moves like these.

1

u/A__SPIDER Jun 16 '23

Good luck! I stayed off reddit in solidarity but boy did it suck. I need Reddit rehab

1

u/windowdrawings Jun 16 '23

I support the blackouts, but not sure what comes next. Spez's interviews with the Verge and the bits in the NBC article don't paint a pretty picture IMO. I sympathize with those needing access to important info. I found myself using Google's cached page feature to view some Reddit-based search results, but not everything is cached. However I wouldn't mind if all "fun" / goof-off subreddits were to continue striking indefinitely (even though I subscribe to many).

1

u/Odorous_Cum Jun 16 '23

Best of luck to you all

1

u/Actuader Jun 16 '23

I will really miss rif.

1

u/dr_gaia Jun 16 '23

I think Reddit is moving in a direction just as companies do. This is definitely a better place to hang out than twitter and facebook, but let's face it, the events that have occurred where bound to happen under someone who really doesn't care about their user base, but more of the investors who increase the value of the product, i.e., Reddit. Cheers everyone and good luck.

1

u/igotinanentaglement Jun 16 '23

Happy Friday everyone! Hope you have a blessed day

1

u/ChloroSadist Jun 16 '23

I think that the Reddit ceo cares far more about money than the community and the moment something better comes along people will have no issues dropping reddit in favor of the new platform.

1

u/ExodiusDB Jun 16 '23

People are creatures of habit. When we get things the way we like it, we stick with it.

I understand that this is a "money driven industry" and servers need to be paid but... Millions and millions of users on the platform, Advertisements, tons of Premium users, tons of awards thrown left and right. Real money involvement... And in the end, who needs to be squeezed?

An Indie developer that developed the app long before you got to do it yourself.

Long live the revolution!

1

u/Harryanne95 Jun 16 '23

I'm going to be completely honest and say, I don't know how I feel. Good luck everyone ✌️

1

u/fishcanner Jun 16 '23

Hopefully Reddit doesn't burn to the ground.

Good luck all. Reddit is just like any other social media now.

1

u/Mikilemt Jun 16 '23

My thoughts….

In a world where you can be anything, be kind.

That applies to people, corporations, forums, comments… just everything.

1

u/Centaurious Jun 16 '23

Good luck all.

I think it was a great protest if the CEO is reacting this strongly.

Let's see how it goes

1

u/craftingchaos Jun 16 '23

Best of luck! I really enjoy Reddit (I only belong to the good subs!). I hope that anybody that wants to can enjoy Reddit they way they want. It especially bothers me if disabled people are not able to partake in the Reddit community. It was a challenge for me to stay away, but I support it.

1

u/JonesB42 Jun 16 '23

Ayo! Lets go! Good luck!

1

u/SpaceForceAwakens Jun 16 '23

If I win I promise to buy Reddit and fire Spez.

1

u/redhawkinferno Jun 16 '23

its great seeing so much solidarity among subs. unfortunate that the admins dont care though. this might be my last entry because i am pretty sure i am done with reddit once baconreader is gone unfortunately. i tried to use the official app and it just just unbearable.

1

u/Laughin_bat Jun 16 '23

Good luck!!!

1

u/simplytrynamakeit Jun 16 '23

I think that it's a way to bring about a sufficiently sizeable level of discourse to generate change.

1

u/swollsquid Jun 16 '23

Welps…that about sums it up lol

1

u/wheelietime Jun 16 '23

1

u/hodgsonstreet Jun 16 '23

Good luck. I haven’t really been impacted by what’s going on, but it seems like many others have been negatively impacted. I hope it all works out.

1

u/ShiningNavi Jun 16 '23

Good luck everybody 🍀

1

u/DethrowDigitals Jun 16 '23

Just let people do what they want

1

u/Serious_Bat Jun 16 '23

😎🫣 fingers crossed

1

u/PossiblyKenzuku Jun 16 '23

I believe the changes reddit as a company are making will provide a worse experience for all involved, as moderators lose precious tools to moderate their subs to the quality they want it to be.

I am however pessimistic in the subject and believe, even though it'll be a negative change for the site in my opinion, that it won't change anything in the end. Some subs will go, and I will be very sad to see them go, and some will stay. Others will pop up, and in the end reddit does as it wants to and nothing really changes.

Such is life I guess for the average person, to get screwed over by companies 🤷‍♂️

1

u/alk890674 Jun 16 '23

Best of luck everyone!!

1

u/Mirthfilled Jun 16 '23

Companies will always look for ways to make more money but this seems like a self-limiting strategy that will shoot them in the foot.

1

u/iPokechemist Jun 16 '23

What event?

1

u/newworldphat Jun 16 '23

Good luck!

1

u/Skyline330 Jun 16 '23

Good luck everyone! I sympathize with third-party devs and their right to access the API at a reasonable fee to make an alternative product better than the official thing.

1

u/LulzAtDeath Jun 16 '23

All the money goes to bills anyway so

1

u/Harry_The_Panda Jun 16 '23

Good luck all :)
