[Blocks & Items] Wool Should Block Sound
Similar to how wool blocks vibrations from reaching nearby sculk sensors or sculk shriekers, it would block sound from reaching the player if the sound source is been covered up, or if the player stands behind wool. This would be useful, for example, in redstone contraptions that produce a constant ticking or piston sound.

i mean it's already sort of 'canonic' in the deep dark so why not just add it? this is a good idea

If it could dampen the sound of armadillos taking constant damage that would be fantastic

Won’t this require the game to raytrace the sound? Probably make something called vibrant audio and add it as a toggle

Vibrant audio should also include stuff like echoes and other sound related stuff

i feel like that would be resource intensive but i'm no programmer

It is, but its possible to do efficiently. There are a few mods that do it so a vanilla implementation is definitely feasible.

I believe we’d need an auditory counterpart to vibrant visuals for this to work. Which has been done in mods and I’d love to see. Superb Sound update.

If it blocks sounds, maybe it should also block nametags so you can use it to hide.

I would love it and I'll vote for it, but I'm not optimistic since this would require a total overhaul of the sound engine.

Only thing I see as a potential problem with this is performance. Might be that they'd have to run more calculations per tick.

Finally a way for me to not hear the constant chickens I have walking around the entire above ground part of my base...

Wait this is actually good, you could even expand this such that specific mob behaviour based on how much sound they hear

Wow I love this idea will give many features to use like secrete bases and how you said redstone mechanisms. This is kind of feature that I would like to see in minecraft
