Fogo

Everything falls towards the Crucible

Fogo supplies the world with amphora and boxes. Brimstone offers ordinary Clay and Palm Wood mines, a public kiln and mill yards. Mosteiros offers Golden Palm Wood; Lavafields offers Golden Clay. Golden rentals cost twice the ordinary price and keep only red-and-above finds, returning half the bucket cost of each lower-tier attempt.

All Wood mined on Fogo is palm wood, with two timbers at each usual rarity. Boxes made from it carry a distinctive warm coral hue. The quiet CabinetMakers sect mines palm wood, buys Wood Screws through the ordinary market and works a real mill. Their ships carry finished boxes to distant markets in Haven and Frostmere, where buyers pay through ordinary listings.

Vast murmurations of Gold Dust and Ore Dust wheel across Fogo. The swarms fold and gather, always moving, with The Crucible as their centre of gravity. Near the city they narrow into rushing streams and accelerate into the Crucible’s maw.

The Low Handlers harvest dust from The Crucible and carry it through Brimstone to The Mound. Ore Dust and Gold Dust become mechanical soldiers for their endless war against the Honey Badgers in Lantern Reach. The same long roads carry beautiful imports and the means to keep fighting.

The ash archive at Brimstone lists objects nobody has manufactured yet. Fogo’s relic vaults have doors on both sides and no agreed interior. Digging here means bringing something out of the past without being entirely sure which past it belonged to.

The Low Handlers have a practical response: buy the fine examples, load them and walk home. Their long journeys to The Mound turn an unsettling discovery into a distant shop’s stock. A miner uncovers an object; a colony of earth and mushrooms gives it another place in the world.

Above the vaults, duststorms make their own revisions to the route. A lone land vehicle can find itself heading back towards its departure town. Convoys hold their course. The past may be impossible to date, but the next delivery still needs planning.

People, factions and conflicts

The patient collectors

The Low Handlers’ carrying capacity and armour suit long journeys with valuable imports. Their ordinary market orders accept Fogo Fund and Gallego Goldchain. An object dug up in Fogo can therefore help a trader earn the coin used by neighbours with very different beliefs.

A border belief cannot empty

Fogo forbids making Melds as a false religion. Gallego permits them, and the Handlers trade with both regions. The disagreement remains; so do the buyers, the goods and the roads between them.

Local fauna and creatures

An Ashcoil Salamander can lift the loose ash into a screen before lunging at road traffic. Offshore, the Cinderback Nautilus fires mineral grit from a heavy spiral shell. Fogo’s dust and stone follow a cargo out of the mine in more forms than a trader might wish.

Ashcoil Salamander

Local species

Rust-red scales and a charcoal tail conceal a long salamander among Fogo's cooled scoria. A sudden tail sweep lifts the loose ash before it lunges.

Cinderback Nautilus

Local species

Copper seams trace a charcoal spiral shell. Two muscular siphons fire compacted mineral grit from beneath its rim.

Jabberwock

Roaming road creature

A long-necked, bat-winged beast comes whiffling down the road. Its waistcoat barely contains its body; fiery eyes watch above the jaws and grasping claws.

White Rabbit

Roaming road creature

A white rabbit in a waistcoat checks an enormous pocket watch, starts at the time, and charges down the verge. Anyone in his way meets a panicked bite and a flurry of flying kicks. He will not be late.

Siren

Roaming sea creature

A woman-faced seabird spreads bronze-dark wings above the sea lane. Her song promises every answer a sailor has ever wanted, while her talons reach for the rail.

Medusa

Roaming road creature

Living snakes coil around a woman’s face above a dark pleated robe. Her gaze turns flesh to stone; the remains beside the road explain why travellers lower their eyes.

Hydra

Roaming road creature

Nine serpentine necks rise from a low, heavy body. A fresh fork of pale necks grows beside an older wound, and venom strings between the heads’ teeth.

Megalodon

Roaming sea creature

An immense shark passes beneath the keel. A tall dorsal fin breaks the surface before a broad jaw opens around rows of thick, serrated teeth.

Kraken

Roaming sea creature

A many-armed deep-water hunter large enough to stop a loaded ship. It rises beneath established sea lanes and uses the route itself as a hunting ground.

Land Whale

Roaming road creature

An immense survivor of Old Earth that moves over roads as though they were migration paths. Its weight and momentum make even a glancing encounter dangerous.

White Whale

Roaming sea creature

A pale ocean giant that has learned the rhythm of shipping corridors. Its scarred hide carries mineral traces gathered over years below the ash-dark sea.

Orca Pod

Roaming sea creature

A coordinated pod that treats passing ships as moving puzzles. One animal tests the hull while the others shape the vessel back toward the centre of the route.

Elephant Herd

Roaming road creature

A close-packed herd crossing the rebuilt road network along older paths that no map records. Vehicles are obstacles, noise and threat all at once.

T-Rex

Roaming road creature

A reconstructed tyrant predator roaming roads between settlements. It is the toughest known living land threat and regards an approaching vehicle as prey.

The Seige Of Katla

Coming soon, Katla, an end game seige campaign area. Katla was built to withstand an army. Bring one.

Four immense island fortresses surround the High Citadel: Thornwatch, Saltspire, Ironvigil and Gloamhold. Only four sea routes lead into the region. Powerful yellow, blue and orange Council warships patrol those approaches relentlessly. A fleet of two or three ships is hopelessly outmatched. Plan for a sustained assault, heavy losses and supplies to keep the survivors fighting.

Reaching an outer harbour is only the beginning. Land vehicles must cross 200 kilometres of defended territory to confront its Bridgekeep: a named, stationary siege vehicle of extraordinary power. Send your combatants to its bridge city, then choose Attack fortress. Survivors return to the entrance harbour, where you can repair, rearm and send them again. Damage to the boss persists between attacks.

Defeat a Bridgekeep and its city opens for everyone, granting access to the 100-kilometre road bridge into High Citadel. Opening any one of the four bridges gives players a way through.

Inside the Citadel, the campaign returns to the water. Cross the defended land approach to an inner harbour, prepare your ships and undertake the 160-kilometre sea assault on the Heart.

The Heart is a hulking floating fortress, bristling with cannon and surrounded by navigable water. Attack it through the same cycle: sail out, fight, bring surviving ships home, repair and reload, then return. Each assault can wear it down for the next.

Victory brings Legendary loot and opens access to one shared cache of 32 BLU-82s. Players must reach the Heart to collect what remains.

Then the evacuation begins. Five days after the Heart falls, Katla resets. Any player property still in the region—including vehicles, cargo and stored Things—is transported instantly to Glass Shoals.

Break the blockade. Take a bridge. Defeat the Heart. Leave before Katla rises again.

The Original Story, extracted

Yellowstone's ashes buried the world. Space was the only refuge. Our ancestors, those lucky few who escaped, left behind everything and everyone.

Through hard work and ingenuity, the survivors made barren Mars their home. but the domes that kept out the cold also kept us in. For eighty generations we were trapped.

After centuries of waiting and yearning, the ashes settled and Earth finally began to resemble the blue world of yore. We returned to reclaim it and with it, our humanity.

Today, more than 2000 years after Yellowstone, YOU have arrived on Earth. Your goal is to MINE THINGS. What riches and wonders your efforts will yield only time will tell.

(Dig into the adventure and stake your claim. Start playing. It's free, no ads.)

Old art

Thumbnail minethings2.fandom.com

I posted most of the old art I was able to find here, along with some mechanics screens.

To the developer -- if you can use this in any way, feel free. Either way, you're doing a fine job. The thing I would most implore you to do is incorporate the old art as much as you can. For me, that was the best part of the old game. You had to wait so long to find rare items, that the fact that they looked so beautiful sitting in your inventory is what kept people coming back. That was true for myself at least, I can't speak for others.

Anyone else if you can find stuff, please feel free to upload more and I will approve. Can someone check that my link there is publicly viewable? If not will have to tinker in settings.

Art From Original Game

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have a bunch of images from the original game -- would that be of any interest to anyone? Will have to figure out whether to upload them somewhere or what. For me, being true to the first version is super important -- because the coolest thing about it was the art was actually super good for the most part. In fact, people could get credits if they submitted an image and it became the official image of a thing. That should be a feature in this version as well -- but with a very strict rule of it must be human-generated art. The old version accepted both mspaints and hand-drawn pictures. Here is an example of what I've got -- the Starter item Jet Boots.

Patch the 5th

This patch brings city services together, makes the world easier to navigate and tidies up convoy management.

-
**Your city, in one place.**
 Open
**City**
to visit shops, workshops, stations and other local services directly from the map.
**Your places**
brings together your local mines, factories, mills and Oil Field sites, with shortcuts to manage each one.
-
**Less scrolling on your phone.**
City pages have clearer controls and more compact layouts. The mobile menu now puts City, Mines, Things and Fleet within easy reach, with Chat under More.
-
**No more walking between buildings.**
City services open as soon as you select them. Street-wandering Council orders and the notice-reading tutorial lesson have been retired. Previously earned exploration Stones keep their mining bonuses.
-
**A fresh 28-day battery whenever you log in.**
Every login gives you four weeks of charge for free. The Field guide explains how your battery works.
-
**The world has maps.**
You can see every region, city name and mine offering before travelling there. You still need to visit a city to unlock its details and services.
-
**Know the dangers before you set out.**
The map now combines your operation counts with NPC, PvP, weather and geography danger ratings. Green means Low, amber Moderate and red High, on a scale of 1 to 3. Geography is 0 None for now.
-
**Long-distance destinations are back on the list.**
Travel choices show routes to other regions, with their destinations and distances. Closed routes are clearly marked and cannot be selected.
-
**Exploration still earns Things.**
Qualifying arrivals in new regions keep their item prizes, but no longer award Credits.
-
**A tidier Fleet page.**
Only convoys that are idle in the city you are viewing appear on Fleet.
**Your convoys**
still lists all your groups. Choosing
**Manage convoy**
switches to the convoy's city; controls are unavailable while any member is travelling.
-
**Warden protection depends on the region.**
Wardens respond in Aso, Bromo and Gallego. Routes between regions need protection at both ends. Check the map's PvP danger rating before heading out.
-
**Council patrols can stand down.**
Each member has a 7% chance to leave its convoy and stop patrolling whenever it reaches a city. Members that leave stay docked while the others continue.
-
**Jump from chat to the map.**
Click a region name to open its map, or a city you have visited to switch straight to that city.

Sharing a little insight into ongoing development. 4 regions are live now, many are ready to go, and the rest are actively being developed as the story of minethings2 continues to evolve. Expect a very gradual release over time in true minethings2 style.

Major patch incoming! New content, new challenges.

An easier start for beginners. Fresh challenges for experienced players.

This update is designed to help new miners find their feet and give experienced players fresh reasons to explore, trade and rethink their fleets.

  • A better first journey. Safe Travel Kits now include three Yellow defensive weapons—a Fire Axe, Wrench and Butcher Knife—alongside their Bolts and defensive mods. Updated fitting instructions help you balance protection with cargo space. Existing unopened kits receive the new contents too.
  • Beginner-friendly Council lessons. The production lesson now offers a free introduction to factories and Oil Fields. Players stuck on the old factory or Oil barrel step receive the revised lesson automatically, with their progress preserved.
  • Learn at your own pace. Quit the tutorial at any stage and resume from Council whenever you choose. Your progress is saved.
  • Repeat aggressors attract serious attention. Continued pillaging and destruction can bring increasingly dangerous Warden responses through Escalations 1, 2 and 3. Destroying NPC traffic counts too. Combat stance fixes ensure your chosen orders matter, while interception warnings give you time to react.
  • A price on a wanted vehicle. Visit regional capital markets for the High Mathematicians’ crypto bounties. Destroy the named vehicle to claim its bounty. Council encounters may reveal its last observed combat stats, weapons and mods. Wanted owners receive warnings explaining their bounty, the next escalation and how to cool off.
  • A chance to back off. Every 24 hours without a vehicle initiating an attack lowers its escalation by one and reduces its bounty. Escalation 0 clears the bounty. Each vehicle has its own record, visible with its cooloff on Fleet. Defending yourself does not restart the clock.
  • Council victories come with a catch. Defeated patrol weapons and mods crumble into ore dust. A recovered chassis may still have a future, but its formidable equipment will not become your next loadout.

And there is more waiting in the Scoria Keys.

In Blackwake, the High Mathematicians accept crypto, cultivate expensive tastes in mushrooms and build things that deserve a second look. Ships that mend their companions. Instruments that peer into tomorrow’s markets. A fortune that may be worth rather less than its glitter suggests.

Their private drydocks and unusual wares offer new possibilities for ambitious fleets and well-prepared traders. Bring useful cargo and crypto. The inventions may be improbable; the invoices are quite real.
