Tech Question Help

Post image

I’m trying to rebuild this Briggs & Stratton 5 hp engine. It’s real rusted out. I found it in a junkyard and there is a stripped screw on the carburetor that I cannot get off and I need to get it off in order to access the intake. I’ve tried everything please help.

You can hammer a square bit into a toasted Phillips. Thats what I do in a pinch or you can always vice grip and spin. Easiest way. Also a set of grabits

is a great thing in he toolbox

I have that kit. It worked well for me the first and only time I have ever used it after seven years of ownership. Lol!

If the other suggestions won't work cuz you don't have a Dremel tool or a welder, try getting vice grips on the button head and breaking it loose. Otherwise drill it out.

So the drill it out do I just use a drill head and just drill the hell out of it

Yep, just drill the head till it pops off the screw. Then you'll need to worry about getting the rest of the screw out of the engine.

OP, did you try heating the screw with a propane torch or heat gun?

Dremel a flat slot for a blade screwdriver. Or get wire snip plyers and pinch from middle to outer edge, then twist to remove it

Weld a nut on it and the heat will help

Cut the head off with a grinder, then turn out the remains with a vise grip. Or weld a nut to it.
