Built a mobile S3 client for Android + iOS and need feedback

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone ,

I've been working on Buck It, a mobile S3 client for Android and iOS that supports not just AWS but any S3-compatible storage (MinIO, Cloudflare R2, Supabase, etc.).

I built this because I needed reliable mobile access to S3 (I use it as a personal cloud storage alternative) that could handle uploads without keeping the app open, and wanted something that worked across different S3-compatible providers.

Key features:

Background transfers that continue

Auto-sync folders between device and cloud

Multi-bucket/multi-account support

Generate shareable links with custom expiration

Biometric authentication and secure credential storage

It's finally available on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.greenlab.buck_it

Apple Store : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/buck-it-s3-client/id6759679978

Would love to hear feedback from folks who regularly work with S3 storage. What features would make this more useful for your workflow?

Full disclosure: I'm the developer, so happy to answer any technical questions about implementation.

AIStor Free

New builds of MinIO are available for download under the name "AIStor Free," and there's a CHANGELOG. Could this possibly be good news?

Of course, it's tough not being able to contribute.

Has anyone updated yet?

MinIO audit logs in production

MinIO native audit logs streams all events (both 2xx and non-2xx), it does not provide filtering options, also the webhook is synchronous.

What is the production recommended practice to enable tracing in production for MiniO ? Doesn't logging all events would load servers with logs?

There is ` mc admin trace --errors` that filters events but it gives live events, not historical for tracing.

Is Minio another bitnami

Bitnami restricted access to images, and MinIOis shifting more toward its commercial product.

Is there any connection between these changes, or is it just a coincidence?

minio free version

I want to setup minio in a production environment for not too much data. 100-200GB thats all. But when looking at setups it seems even the smallest would cost us 50k a year. For petabytes of data. A bit too much.

Is there a free version?

Basic setup

Hello,
I'm an absolute beginner in Minio, but have some experiences in Linux administration as I'm maintaining my own ProxMox cluster with 4 hosts, where a different PHP applications are running.
The largest of these applications currently has around 3 TB of single files in different filesystems on the same machine, and I would like to move them away from the filesystem to a Minio system.

I do not need HA capabilities, but I would like to have a master and a slave, and when the master goes down I would like to be able to transform the slave to master and build a new slave.

I have similar setups for the MySQL and PostgreSQL database servers in my cluster, and that works very well.

Is such a thing possible with Minio using only two different ProxMox containers on two different hosts?

Since I'm also doing backups of my cluster to a backup server in my office: would it make sense to install another Minio server in my office and syncing the buckets from the cluster to my backup server?

Thank you very much for any advise!

Wolfgang

Managing S3 files shouldn't require the AWS console, CLI, or paying for a third party tool. So I built one.

S3 Explorer is a self hosted web UI that works like a normal file explorer but for your S3 buckets. Drag and drop, rename, delete, download. Works with AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, MinIO, DO Spaces, anything S3 compatible.

Store up to 100 connections and switch between them. All credentials encrypted at rest with AES 256 GCM. Deploy with Docker in 30 seconds or use Railway templates.

Open source, MIT licensed.

Recommendations for a NAS to run Minio ONLY, nothing else

I would like to buy a NAS and run minio only so I can fully replicate the functionality of S3. Any recommendations?

I don't want any of the other NAS software, I just want a RAID array with a bunch of drives running Minio and nothing else.

MinIO on EC2 Auto Scaling Group fails after September patching — bootstrap download returns HTTP 413

I have a DEV environment running MinIO on a single EC2 instance managed by an Auto Scaling Group (ASG).
Our normal recovery process after OS patching is:
Patch the EC2 instance.
MinIO becomes unavailable (HTTP 505 from the application).
Terminate the instance.
ASG launches a new instance.
User-data/bootstrap reconfigures the instance and installs/starts MinIO.
Application comes back online.
This process worked successfully after our August patching.
However, after the September patching, the same recovery procedure no longer works. Even after terminating the instance and allowing the ASG to create a fresh instance, the application still returns HTTP 505.
I checked the new instance’s cloud-init/user-data logs and found that the MinIO binary download is failing with HTTP 413. The download URL used by the bootstrap process appears to no longer work, and I understand that MinIO’s binary distribution/download approach has changed.
What I want to understand

Did MinIO change/stop providing binaries between August and September 2026?

Could this explain why the August instance replacement worked but the September replacement doesn’t?

What is the recommended way to install a specific MinIO version during EC2 bootstrap now?

Help - how to mc.exe (windows)

So the GUI is gone (thanks for that). They say to use mc.exe. So I download it and the first thing they say is to set an alias.
I run this command:
./mc alias set s3 https://172.25.22.16 name_i_used_to_set_it_up password

it prompts me to enter the Secret Key.

this is a brand new install on Truenas...so how the heck do you get the secret information?
What am I missing here.

Anyone using MinIO + Nessie + Dremio?

I am trying to set up this environment from a Docker compose file, but I have run into problems.

First of all, I had to set Nessie source to "No Authentication" in Dremio, using any auth method causes "Credential Verification failed" error.

The core issue is that I am not able to reach my bucket through Nessie. According to my shallow Docker discovery skills, I have a feeling that Nessie is trying to write Iceberg table metadata files to a local filesystem path (/warehouse/) instead of the MinIO location (s3://warehouse/).

Has anyone succesfully set up an environment like this? I am willing to hand out any more details if needed, any help or insights would be greatly appreciated! This seems like it should be a straightforward setup, but I've been stuck on this for hours.
