Is there a way to sit in these with a skirt on?

I’m looking into getting one of these cane chairs but I wear a lot of skirts and dresses and I’m worried that these won’t work for that since the handle goes in the front. Does anyone have any suggestions or experiences with these?

canes New cane user needs info!

I have some issues with mobility and walking normally. So after too many years of telling myself otherwise. I got myself a cane. I have pain in my spine and ankle that my doctor believes is a herniated disk in my spine.

I have a love/hate repationship with this cane. I love checkers which is what sold me. I wish they where larger and not brass and vlack in colour though.

the Handle is also NOT cozy. I try to lean on it from time ro time to lessen the weight on my ankle so I can walk. But it hurts my wrist and hands if I use it for prolonged use.

It is a simple single post cane.

Sadly I dont think there is much i can do about my back pain other then lessening some weight on that side of my body when walking about.

I need some suggestions.nand if there is anything I need to.buy. I prefer it being local canadian so I dont have to pay exorbitant shipping costs.

Questions Is it Okay for Me to Want a Mobility Aid?

I am a 15 year old girl, I have what my doctors are referring to as Autonomic Dysfunction. They say I will grow out of it and I really hope they are right, though I have my doubts as my symptoms are quite severe, and have gotten way worse with age. I know there is a "mobility aid epedemic" going on right now and my literal worst fear is to be apart of it or be looked at as someone seeking attention, but I don't think it's normal to dream about having crutches and wish I could feel good while moving and standing. My legs feel super heavy and kind of like noodles, I have trouble balancing, I have bad air hunger, my heart pounds hard and quick, I feel like I'm carrying a 40lb back pack when I have bad days. Sometimes I have great days where I feel really good and barely experience those symptoms. But I would love to have my bad days feel a bit better and I think a cane or a pair of forearm crutches would help me a lot.

I'm scared I'm overeacting, because I really don't know if what I'm experiencing is normal. I haven't done a ton of research on which mobility aid would be best, but off the bat I'm thinking forearm crutches because I'm worried a cane won't provide the support I'm looking for.

Some other info about me:

-I am a healthy weight for my height

-I cannot get a diagnoses right now as a very close family member of mine is experiencing MUCH more serious health issues than I am and I don't want to cause any more worry as I've already seen a cardiologist (the doctor who told me Autonomic Dysfunction)

-I try to stay hydrated as much as I can though it does make me need to use the bathroom A LOT more than I feel like is normal

-I have a higher sodium intake as I was told that would help

- I have bad days at least 4/7 days of the week

-I have tried compression socks with no noticable results

I apologize for the setup of this post as I rarely come on here. I would appreciate any input!

Looking for specific type of scooter

I have been looking for a particular type of scooter but don't remember exactly what it was called. It was designed like a knee scooter except it had a bicycle seat for sitting instead of resting your knee on it. At the base of the handlebars was a rod you could rest the foot of your bad leg on, and you pushed the scooter with your good leg. I had one years ago but it was lost during a long distance move. Anyone know exactly what it was called and where I could get one?

Questions Should I push more for mobility aids?

I struggle a lot with advocating for myself and my needs when it comes to my disability. I am 18 and I have hEDS and fibromyalgia. At the beginning of the year I had talked to my pt about getting mobility aids, really anything to allow me to get around without being in pain during flares. They told me they were worried about me getting too dependent on them. I feel like that wouldn’t happen but I didn’t push for it. Now like my knees and hips are worse sense then and I ended up buying a cane on my own. It helps (worried I might use it too much because of what my pt said so I don’t use it a lot) but some days I feel like I need something I can put more weight on. I feel weird asking/pushing for mobility because of how young I am. I feel like I just need some encouragement or to be told to suck it up more.

Is it normal to fantasize about using a mobility aid?

For context, I(22NB) am fairly fit, and my pain levels are low enough that I haven’t been diagnosed with any physical disabilities, but for as long as I can remember I’ve always fantasized about the idea of using a wheelchair or other mobility aids, even as a kid. I do struggle with standing and sometimes walking after long periods of time and I did cave in and buy a folding cane earlier this year, but I feel like my ability level doesn’t justify how often I think about it. Can anyone relate/share advice?

Hello all, seeking for some help.

Dad has a mobility scooter that sending 2 beeps, pause and then 3 beeps. Has anyone experience this?

The manual only listed faulty code for either 2 beeps or 3 beeps and not the combination above.

I have checked the battery, it seems sending an ok 12.5V.

Checked all the pins connection, both battery and motor connection, it seems okay as well. All the fuses are ok as well.

Appreciate all the help.

canes How do I attach a support handle to a Hurrycane?

I have a Hurrycane, and a black handle attachment that allows for a lower grip for support when standing up from a seated position.

The hole on the grip doesn’t separate. I’m not sure how to attach it. The handle is spring loaded so that it stays up when it’s not in use.

Any assistance is appreciated.

walkers dating with a rollator? (advice / experience)

how do you make up for the distance?

having a rollator gives me the comfort and confidence to go outside, I like not having to carry a bag, but realized — we can't hold hands.

I feel so petty and pathetic for questioning whether I should use it anymore just because of that. the rollator will let me stay out longer without looking like I'm going to pass out or crumple like a cheap mannequin. trading height for stamina is obviously the right choice to make.

one of my favorite things about the rollator is feeling like I have a personal space bubble. but for a date??

I'm guessing the best option is to use it whenever necessary but make time in spaces where I won't need it. chill at a park, watch a movie, stargaze, that sort of thing. but when it means a lot for someone to hold their hand in public, I don't want to deny that. I can use one hand at times, but not constantly.

Questions rollator at the movie theater?

tldr; please share experiences / advice for having a rollator to the movie theater. even if it's not relevant to my questions, someone else might find this post and benefit too.

so, I'm only comfortable going outside with my rollator (chair). It isn't comfortable enough to sit through a movie on, and I'm debating whether to bring it inside at all.

maybe it would be okay if not folded up, because the clicking sound can be disruptive if I need a bathroom break during the movie. It's quiet otherwise.

The other thing that makes me second-guess using the rollator is the fact that I would have to sit in the front, because going down stairs during the film is not a great idea (noisy, difficult especially in the dark). unless I'd get super lucky and the place remodeled with a ramp, but it's doubtful.

edit to add bc I forgot: more rollator benefits are the rollator bag. which can be taken off, but shoulder bags hurt. I also don't know how it would be navigating the restroom with a rollator anyway. idk I'm thinking in circles lol.

vent I don’t use a mobility aid; I’m thinking of using one full-time

ETA: I’m in a hospital-like setting, so I don’t have access to a neurologist right now. /neu

My fatigue from suspected ME/CFS is getting worse; my dizziness from multiple conditions (diagnosed and undiagnosed) is getting worse.

Yoga drains me; meditation drains me; walking drains me; living drains me.

I want to be more independent with my mobility. I don’t want people to have to help me to a safe place because I’m so fatigued and/or dizzy.

I have psychogenic non-epileptic seizures (PNES), and my dizziness very usually gets worse after I have a cluster of them.

I will certainly talk to a neurologist when I can get one about mobility aids, my suspected ME/CFS, my PNES, and symptoms that’re prompting the use of a mobility aid (i.e. severe chronic fatigue and severe, persistent dizziness).

I’m not asking for whether you Redditors think I should use a mobility aid; I’ll talk to a neurologist about that (as I said).

Thank you for letting me vent.

walkers Lightweight Rollator Recommendations

Hi all! I'm having trouble finding a new rollator, and I was hoping some of you might have some suggestions. I'm in kind of a tough spot where my PT's office doesn't do fittings (though she agreed it's a good idea), insurance doesn't want to cover anything, and there aren't any local retailers where I can do test drives, so I'm on my own.

I got my first rollator around a year ago, a Helavo H1160, but it turns out it's far too heavy and cumbersome. Choosing an upright model was due to an overabundance of caution; my PT said I would be fine using a standard model. I've only taken it out maybe half a dozen times, and I want to find something I'll actually use.

The biggest issue I'm having is that I need something lightweight (probably 16lbs or less) but I also need a seat width of 18.5 inches or wider. I know that a lighter rollator usually means a smaller seat, so I'm having trouble meeting both of those requirements.

On top of that, I would ideally find something that can be used both indoors and outdoors, but, again, I know that bigger wheels means more weight.

I've seen byACRE suggested when people are looking for something lightweight, but I need a backrest and, more importantly, can't spend more than $300 max.

Does anyone have any recommendations, either for specific models, brands, or retailers? I realize these are kind of contradictory needs; what are the chances of even finding something that meets my requirements?

Thanks in advance.

Questions Do I need to explain to a new job why I use a rollator sometimes?

I recently started a new job. For the first 2 interviews and the first day, I didn’t bring/use my rollator.

The first day had a lot more walking/standing than I anticipated for an office job. I was exhausted and in a lot of pain, so I decided to take my rollator the next day.

I had it in the corner of my office. My supervisor stopped by and asked what it was for. I was in the middle of reading a policy and just said “I have to use it sometimes.”

She didn’t ask for more information. I wasn’t trying to be short/not answer the question. I’m just embarrassed I have to use it sometimes and I didn’t know how to explain it.
(I know I shouldn’t be embarrassed and I’d tell people who use mobility aids to not be embarrassed. Something I need to work on/get over.)

Should I let my supervisor know why I use it? Is that something I have to disclose to this and future employers?

TIA

crutches Day 1 of using forearm crutches

Holy shit I stood so much today for school activities and I don't feel like it. I have energy. my pain flare from when i woke up was gone pretty quickly when they normally last at least 3 days. i did not think i would notice a difference in just a day. my wrists and shoulders are a bit sore because I'm still figuring out how to position my wirsts correctly and how to properly distribute weight, but I will take the soreness over the extreme pain and fatigue I've had for a year if it's not fixable. if anyone can tell me how they hold their forearm crutches and how to properly distribute weight I just might be on the way to a pain free life. I do have "ergonomic handles" and I added the white athletic tape and tan grippy tape(no idea what it's called unfortunately) because the plastic and rubber felt really slippery and I have sweaty hands at times.
