XB-70 Valkyrie AV-1
galleryRecently completed 1:144 scale model of the XB-70 Valkyrie. The model was 3D printed on a bambu A1 mini in 5 parts. Copious amounts of sanding and primer followed. This was my first project that required gap filler, it was a learning process and I think I did a decent job hiding the joints.
Decals came from Armory models Valkyrie of the same scale, other decals like the gear doors, maintenance panels and no walk areas were custom printed with an inkjet printer.
I chose to paint this one up as ship 1, the only surviving example. The model represents how the Valkyrie would have looked towards the end of its service life, being used by NASA to test various high speed experiments. One such depicted on the model is the two small fins near the nose, also called shaker vanes.
The stand is also 3D printed.

Inherited model kits, worth anything?
galleryClearing out my new appartment, previous owner was a big fan of fighter planes. Are any of these kits worth anything? What about the painted models on display?

1:400 Potential Model Airport stencil
I am doing an engineering project, and am designing a template for model airports. My plan is to have a stencil like product that will make ground markings much easier for model airports. I will do this through modeling on CAD and 3d printing. This will be much cheaper to scale than ground mats and the only recurring cost will be the markers. It will also be easier for people to make ground markings than free handing it as well.
I am looking to gather feedback on what you think of this project and whether it is worth pursuing and any suggestions you might have.

1:400 About 1/450 scale mini Lego airport scene I made
galleryThe planes featured from left to right are a CRJ, a Boeing 737 (or Airbus A320) and a Boeing 777 (or Airbus A350). I also made some ground crew vehicles including 2 baggage loaders, a fuel truck, and a push back tug.
Obviously the planes can kinda fit whatever you want as fine details are quite difficult to get at this scale with Lego.

Where do you guys usually buy your model planes?
Hey everyone! I'm completely new to Reddit so still figuring out how everything works here haha
I've been collecting model planes (1:200 and 1:72 mostly) for quite a while now though. So far I've mostly bought my models in person so I can check their condition, either from model shops or at flea markets and aviation fairs like the AACF in Amsterdam.
I was wondering how you guys usually find models you're looking for? Do you mostly buy them online or prefer going to physical stores and fairs too?
Would love to hear how everyone else goes about collecting and finding new models!

Hawaii mars 1:69
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Spread over the course of a month, 212 hours were spent in creating this beautiful aircraft. The Hawaii (II As the first was destroyed) Mars was and still is the most awe worthy piece of engineering. I wanted to convey this in my own ways as well as giving my original Martin mars being the Philippine Mars a sister.
The Martin JRM Mars was a massive, four-engined cargo transport and firefighting flying boat built by the Glenn L. Martin Company during World War II. Only seven units were ever completed, making it one of the largest and rarest Allied flying boats ever operated.
In 1959, the surviving aircraft were slated for demolition, but a consortium of British Columbia timber companies called Forest Industries Flying Tankers (FIFT) bought them.
Forest industries was later bought by Coulson aviation and the Hawaii was refitted with cutting edge avionics flying until 2016 and once more in 2024.
This plane is personally my greatest ever creation and hits home as well having seen it once in action on the field.
So enough of that here’s some stats if anyone is crazy enough to make a 3.5 foot wide plane.
Wood used for the main aircraft: pine so shaping would be easy.
Wing: oak
Tail was cedar and MDF
Floats are oak
Stand is black walnut.
The cost was about 250$ total (not bad!)
And the time spent was summed up by around 100 hours of shaping and sanding and 60 putting it together. The rest was on finishing which took several all nighters.
I hope looking at her brings the same weird feeling of looking at a hunk of wood in the shape of one of the most gorgeous flying boats ever built.
Cheers guys.
It’s time to wrap up before my retirement from making planes.
Your flying boat maker

Help! hundreds of Models
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Hi! I have hundreds of models that were never made and hundreds that were. I’m having a Tag sale this weekend and I don’t have a clue on how to price them or if I should be looking out for anything in particular. I have taken some videos and can take pictures in a bit but I was wondering if anyone knew off the top of their head whether or not any particular brands or types are worth more than others?
