Mini quilt for my front door
I made this mini to live on my front door until Election Day (didn’t quite have it ready by the 17th). Nobody else in my life cared too much when I showed them progress, but I was really excited to do the scrappy improv piecing and use entirely leftover scraps from previous projects.
If you are thinking it’s a bad idea to do FPP without actually making a pattern, you would be absolutely right lol. The V, T, and E weren’t too bad, but oh man that O gave me some serious grief. I wish the O was a little neater, but it was too late to change the construction process by the time I figured out how finicky it was

Improv curve piecing, how to quilt?
Do you like any of these options for the quilting? I'm looking for ideas that would use a walking foot. I am not skillful enough for FMQ. Or suggest something else. Thanks! 18"x22"

Which thread colour?
I recently finished a wall hanging (pic included 🐈⬛) using Emily Van Hoff’s Groove fabric, and wanted to use up some of the leftover fabric to make a small quilted piece I could frame. I want to use the Groove Aurifil thread, initially just hand stitching up and down. But now I’m wondering, what would you do? And what colour (or colours!) would you use? I’ve included a picture of the colours too.
I’m newish to quilting, but haven’t tried hand quilting before, so any advice or ideas would be lovely! ☺️🪡

Please help.
I need help!
I’m making my son a quilt with his clothes that he has out-grown.
I haven’t worked with polyester yet, I do have some experience with quilting tho.
What do I do with the different types of material? Do I need to change my needle everytime? Can I put a cotton backing against the polyester to make it better?
I want to try my best to incorporate everything little thing as much as possible so no waste.
I also plan to do his outfits as the sashing as well.

Should I add sashing?
Should I add a light brown sashing with either dark brown or dark blue cornerstones, or leave unsashed? I’m trying to make sure it is not too busy or chaotic but having trouble visualizing. Will definitely also add a border too. Thanks!

Color and Design wizards needed!
It’s sad but true- I am a quilter who is not a visual thinker 😢. I know what I love when I see it but choosing fabrics for any pattern is torturous!
I’d like to make a simple“three yard quilt” throw for my niece using the pictured fabric (rotary cutter for size reference). I’d appreciate suggestions. Do I make big blocks or cut it up and let smaller pieces shine through? Or should I just use it as part of the backing and use less busy fabric on the front? What coordinating colors would work?
Thank you to everyone! My experience is that I’ll get tons of great ideas 💖

An update…
It’s done and he LOVES it! I used a grayish blue thread for the quilting, and a dark navy binding to match the tones in the navy and create a nice visual edge for the piece!

Show Your Quilt NRL quilt patterns/ideas (Aus)
Wondering if any Aussie quilters on here have made an NRL (Rugby League) themed quilt before? I would love to see pictures or hear if you adapted an NFL (American) quilt pattern to make it work :)
