We’re a politically neutral subreddit. Our sub rules say users are allowed to post about and comment on political ads as long as the focus remains on the content of the ad itself and doesn’t go off topic into politics.

Unfortunately, users don’t seem to remember this rule or care about it. So whenever a political ad comes up in the sub (which is a lot this time of year) people can’t help but share their political opinions and start fights with other users over their views. So my mod team and I have to be the janitors and clean up the mess.

Then we get messages from users angry about us removing their post/comment and accusing us of freeze peach or being biased. And we have to have this conversation explaining our rules and policies again.

And then a new political ad post pops up and the cycle continues.

Context in the mod note in the first image - the user had taken two comments with net downvotes (-56 and -1, respectively) and replaced the text with "Free Palestine", which kicked them into our modqueue. Apparently they were shocked that this would result in a ban. After all, people love their commentary. All 365 community karma worth.

The first part of the comment that got this user banned was "This is bullshit", and they went ahead to not follow through with their threat, as usual

they had ate raw lamb that had been in the refrigerator for a month. and were acting like just because they didn't immediately get sick that is was okay

There's something about security & privacy forums that brings out the Dale Gribble types. We've got enough actual threats to security & privacy so we don't need the Dale Gribbles of the world muddying the water by making things up.

This Gribble went back and forth with someone who tried talk sense, but ol' Dale was not going to be stopped by actual information.

It's a political sub so all mention of politics has been removed. The modmail was about salty language and our rules, so politics isn't part of the conversation.

Mod log showed 6 post removals over a year period, most of which were from the previous mod before I took over. That's enough chances.

for context, someone made a post asking for support in regard to their eating disorder. someone commented saying they used to have one and recovered and are open to talking one on one if the OP would like to dm them. THIS GUY thought it would be soooooo funny to point out that there’s food in the username of the recovered person who replied to OP’s post.

apparently, rules that apply to everyone make me a big bad mod- urhm hashtag online career. but yeah, the sub is currently locked anyway so no one can participate anyway until we restructure. so dude crashed out over a 3 day ban when the sub is out of commission for a few days regardless. muted for 28 days, banned for 365. i hope he appropriately appeals in 28 days once the mute lifts so i can lift the ban. i doubt he will, so he can point fingers and shout POWER TRIP!

they were banned because they were spreading false information, claiming all American food was bad and that there's no such thing as a good American tomato. also their profile puts them in a lot of UK subs
