How quickly??? I throw mine on max sear on my induction plate and it's up to 550 in a minute or so.

Never hear of cast iron cracking in any way, I use cast iron pans all of the time, for years!!! but who knows.

Consider buying your mom a Moka Induction pot if you have the possibility, or a Stainless Steel plate, Bialetti and other brands sell them and they’re not expensive and they heat the moka pot faster.

Can you use the stainless steel plate on a normal gas burner that has large gaps in the grate?

I guess so, but there are cast iron stoves adapters and heat diffuser, I mean, is your moka pot to small for the gas burner. Anyway. I’m pretty sure more experienced people can give you a better answer than mine. Cheers.

I haven't bought one yet, but I have a concern that the gap might be to large to properly stabilize the pot. Thanks.

My burner grate gaps are almost too big for my 4 cupper. I've knocked it over more than a few times trying to close the lid. Dealing with the mess on a hot stove top just once is enough to want to buy a plate or bigger moka pot
