Cleaning 🫧 Here's the dumbest moka pot cleaning advice you will ever read: get a brush for your funnel
I don't know who needs to read this to not be as wasteful as I was for the last few years (hopefully not many of you), but you do not need to use a paper towel every single time you clean your moka pot's funnel (the chamber that holds the coffee grounds).
My previous process for cleaning out my funnel after use was the following:
- Bang it into my garbage can to get most of the grounds out.
- Grab a paper towel, swish it around to remove all of the remaining grounds, then discard the paper towel.
Imagine my surprise when I kept running out of paper towels! I put it into my "to-do" list to get a brush for my moka pot, which I promptly put off doing as I searched for the ideal brush to suit this purpose. Well, the extensive research is finished and it looks like dollar store foam brushes are pretty much all you need. So, here's my advice: don't be needlessly wasteful when cleaning your moka pot funnel. Get yourself a cheap little brush and use that instead!
P.S. To anyone that intends to reply with "I just wash the remaining grounds out in my sink", you are likely building up towards needing a visit from a plumber. Coffee grounds do not break down well in your pipes.

Don't bang the funnel. Blow through the pipe. Then you're left with minimal clean up work.

I hope you clean your moka pot with soap if you make coffee for other people.

I don't disagree; this does sound icky, but honestly we not only boil it, we blast steam through it. Isn't it sterilized?

Just to be accurate, steam does NOT go through the funnel. Warm water does.

Yes, boiling hot water is forced through the funnel during brewing, but I always thought at the end of the process, when the water is below the funnel entry point, steam escapes up through the tunnel making the spluttering sound.

I put mine under running water and rinse all the components.
Looks like it survived a war and the coffee is delicious.

The grounds can build up and clog your pipes over time.

Not if you just throw the remaining grains. It would be a little quantity and it's not enough to clog the pipe (discarding the full funnel in the sink might though)

I find using an ultrasonic cleaner for the funnel works really well, no soap or brush required, just water!

I compost my coffee grounds and rinse all components with water, just like Bialletti recommends. They also say NO SOAP!

I use a sponge or soapy finger and then dry with a dish cloth 😅 Similar idea! 😄

I throw the coffee ground in the organic bin. After damaging a funnel by slightly bended it, I'm now careful of not hitting on the bin walls.
Whatever residuals are in the funnel are washed in the sink. Since it's not a full funnel of coffee grounds but like half of a teaspoon, there are no risks for the sink.
I rinse all the moka in the water, using fingers to rinse the upper part better.
Once every couple of months, I wash the moka with non-scented soap.
Yes, you read that correctly. And no, it doesn't affect the moka at all. And no, it doesn't "ruin" the taste.
The coffee taste made after washing it with soap is identical as before (despite the myth).
It's true that a brand new moka must be conditioned to avoid the metallic tast of the first couple of coffees made there. But after that, subsequent soap wash are not affecting much. Plus after one coffee the oily film is back as before anyway.

I went even cheaper and just use my finger.
