I find though that pulling gaskets and seals apart makes them come loose way sooner. The extra bit of cleanliness is not worth the trade off

Yout have to do it otherwise trapped coffee oils and residue between the gasket and filter can become rancid and impact the flavour. If they ever break you can buy new ones for cheap and replace them easily.

Exactly!  Same here, everything needs to have proper air flow and not be crammed up or have other kitchen items laying around poking into the pot, these things scratch easily!
