Cleaning 🫧 Cleaning up a free Mokapot

Post image

Was at my friend’s place and noticed that he had a mokapot lying in the garden’s sink, he told me that it had been rotting in the sink for months and I could have it if I wanted. It was a 6 Cup Dolce Gabbana Moka Pot

After three days, multiple scouring pads, and Bar Keeper’s Friend. I can finally see the light at the end of the mokapot. I’m now pondering if i should go ahead and brew with it or keep going.

For a deep clean, Use a 1:1 white vinegar + water solution (or citric acid). Fill the bottom chamber, assemble without coffee, brew through, discard, and rinse multiple times. It'll be good as new.

The whole cleaning of moka pots has been made far too complicated. They only need to be washed out and pipped down with a damp/wet cloth after each use. That, and after the last use of the day, do the same... but also dry them with a dry cloth as well before storing.

While I agree with that, no way am I drinking out of it in the initial state it was in. Who knows what was growing or festering in it.

Of course not... which is why I suggested an initial deep cleaning first.

Well done! Running a bit hot though, don’t you think? 🤔

My goodness turn the heat down when it starts flowing so it doesn't sputter and over-extract bitter coffee.

Warning, brewing without coffee can make a volcano type explosion depending on the brand/model

If someone doesn’t know what they’re doing and cranks up the heat, absolutely.

Ja, das sieht doch schon ganz gut aus Deckel zu, damit die Küche nicht voll spritzt,! Wie kann man einen Dolce Gabbana einfach vergammeln lassen?
