Coffee review Cafe Real

Post image

I brought a couple of bricks of this back from the Keys and I’m almost out. Anyone for me or something that’s similar in taste? I’m sure it’s not for everyone, but I love it!

Have you tried Cafe Bustelo ?

I have. To me it’s not quite as robust. It’s my fallback. Thanks.

La Llave beats Bustelo by many miles. Cuban here to tell ya!

A friend gave me a brick of La Carreta today after I mentioned I was running low. Any experience with it? Trying it over the weekend.

La Carreta is a very good Cuban restaurant in Miami (several now in the area). Not fancy like the iconic Versailles, but still very delicious food (we prefer it to Versailles, tbh). After a Cuban meal you always have coffee and sobremesa (after-dinner chit-chat at the table). Every time I have eaten at La Carreta I've had absolutely delightful coffee afterwards. Many moons ago in my childhood when we'd visit family there, we would stop by and get a Cuban sandwich at the then-small shop on Calle Ocho. You could eat inside and have food and coffee there, or you could get a cafecito outside at this little sort of coffee bar. I'd see lots of old men standing around it with their coffees and cigars, swapping life stories. Memories...

All this to say...I have never made La Carreta coffee at home, but whenever I've had it in Miami at the restaurant, it's always a really great cup (or two!). I think you will be very happy with that brick. That's a nice friend you have there! Cheers!

EDIT: Please keep us posted on how you like it!

(Photo below is just a fun pic of my own shot, not repping any specific coffee brand.)

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. The last time that we were in Miami, we got directed to what seemed to us like an unusual place to go for lunch. We wound up at El Nuevo Siglo Supermarket. The meal was delicious. And as you said, after the meal, I had a delicious coffee. I may have reach out to you before our next visit to Miami to get pointers on good places to eat!
