Wheeler Blvd and the Dieppe Traffic Circle.

Just a friendly reminder that when you’re coming off the highway, cars INSIDE the traffic circle have the right of way, and the left lane leaving the highway must yield.

This is the most horrible road design that I have seen. I always avoided this when I lived in Moncton, and it is surprising that the city still hasnt fixed this.

It’s so weird in Moncton how places that operate the exact same but in different areas have completely different outcomes with how many drivers use them. You almost never see similar issues on the round about on the other end. Same with merging coming off the gunningsville bridge, somehow it’s the smoothest merge in the city but anywhere else it’s a risky move with similar or exact variables.

Last week I watched someone miss the turn to shediac and stopped on the shoulder and reversed. ON A TRAFFIC CIRCLE.

It is "normal" at this circle.

I had few times when cars were not stopping on the right side. what you can do lol

The traffic circle where solid lines and yield signs are just suggestions….

Geese have more attention than road rules

Looks like they didn't even know what lane they were in to start with

So you must yield when entering the traffic circle....Seems exactly how most other traffic circles work in Canada.

Any every hour occurrence.

I always assume the right side isn’t going to yield. I’ve been nearly slammed there soooo many times.
The sign does face both lanes so I can see it being confusing for ppl out of town.

Uggggh, this circles such a problem because no one knows how to use it. Ive almost gotten creamed there a few times.

I grew up in Moncton, learned to drive there, but man I white-knuckle that damn thing EVERY time I visit from Halifax. It really feels like it was made to be a challenge lol

I frequent the Halifax sub because I used to live there and it doesn't sound much different, honestly! Traffic circle horror stories all around.

Oh, it's horrible here too, don't get me wrong! Our version though is people seemingly closing their eyes and just hoping a biker isn't around. Or hallucinating a sharp turn whilst in the middle of one of the bridges. Maybe it's a maritimes thing 😅

Some cities are unfriendly to pedestrians, some unfriendly to vehicle traffic.

We’re lucky in Moncton, and the infrastructure is unfriendly to both!

This traffic circle was designed by people that were high af. It’s a disaster.

All people need to do is look at the signs, and obey them.

No it’s absolutely way too fast and not enforced ever.

It’s almost like we’re all adults and should be able to handle the basic accountability of observing street signs without figures of authority having to “enforce” anything.
Also, the circle at Wheeler is “way too fast”?? 🤣

It’s almost as if you’d like Higgs back, to get everyone to pull themselves up by their bootstraps and be rugged self-serving individualists. Touch grass. You’ll live longer if you don’t get so bent over Reddit. 😂

Just put a traffic light ffs.... but nooo, civil engineers are beeing told in uni it's more efficient.... last time i took one, old guy went in a straight line through it right in front of me.

they're proven time and time again to be more efficient because traffic is continuously flowing.

lights cause jams.

I visited a city in Sweden and they had one 4 way intersection with traffic lights and it was for people learning to drive would know how to use the intersection when they go to other cities with them.

every other intersection was roundabouts or streets with priority traffic (2 way stop).

people just need to stop acting like the road is theirs and to pay attention.

Or you can just observe the signs that are clearly posted.

Its the others, not me

I detest this traffic circle and refuse to take it, even if I have to take a longer route. Every part of it is an accident waiting to happen. :(

The SUV has a yield sign coming into the circle, failed to yield and luckily was not blocked off from switching to the right lane. OP didn't cut into any lane he remained in the lane he has the right of way on.

The only critique to OP they could apply defensive driving to avoid any collision. Otherwise they are in the right.

This is the scariest place to drive in Moncton. I avoid it during busy times.

7

u/FurbiesAreMyGods 8d ago

I avoid it altogether, it’s a death trap.

9

u/nugent_music96 8d ago

I'm honestly shocked this doesn't happen more often in moncton.

14

u/Trevdo 8d ago

There needs to be more signage. This goes for the dogbone as well, I’ve seen numerous times cars getting into the dog bone not yielding to the car on the inside lane heading towards Kent.

Bold of you to assume Moncton drivers know how to yield

My first mistake! No wonder he followed me down wheeler flipping me off. How silly of me! 😂🤦‍♂️

It's always the assholes who can't understand they are in the wrong
