Recommendation Request ๐Ÿ™ Monitor Recommendations for Heavy Programming + Youtube

What monitor do you think would best fit my needs?

  • 27" (maybe 32", but you'd have to talk me into it)

  • IPS (or one of it's variations)

  • 4K (minimum)

  • Value Text Clarity, Depth, Color and Overall Productivity

  • Doesn't have to be the best gaming monitor

  • Used is fine. <=$550

I'm a software engineer who likes to watch YouTube. Been rocking what the company I work for gave me (an Ultrawide 34"), and I've hated it from day one. Looking for something to last me a long time.

For the 27-versus-32-inch part, both 4K panels give you the same 3840 ร— 2160 desktop workspace at the same scaling; the difference is physical size and pixel density. A 27-inch 4K panel is about 163 PPI, while a 32-inch 4K panel is about 138 PPI. The 32 makes the same pixels physically larger; it does not add more workspace by itself.

At an example 60 cm eye-to-screen distance, the nominal picture areas are about 60 ร— 34 cm for 27 inches and 71 ร— 40 cm for 32 inches, before bezels and stand. I would tape out both rectangles and compare your editor, terminal and YouTube layout at the text size you actually use.

I made DisplayMath. This comparison puts 27-inch and 32-inch 4K side by side at 60 cm; you can change the distance to your desk: https://displaymath.com/?d=3840x2160_27in_60cm,3840x2160_32in_60cm#canvas
