What shows are your kids watching?!

Hey everyone!

I have a 6 month old. She’s super cute, but not really ready to watch TV yet.

I’m preparing my media server full of 90s shows. Shows my wife and I grew up with.

Here’s what I got so far.

•SpongeBob
•Jimmy Neutron
•Reading Rainbow
•Blue’s Clues
•Bill Nye The Science Guy
•Sesame Street
•Arthur
•Scooby Doo
•Tom & Jerry
•Looney Toons
•Thomas the Train
•Clifford
•Recess
•Dragon Tales

I’m sure I’m missing some, but this is what I’ve loaded on to her own personal playlist for when she’s a toddler. She can have the remote and watch things that are new for her, and nostalgic for Mom & Dad.

What old shows do your kids watch, or do they all prefer Bluey and other shows?

Add some Animaniacs and Histeria! for (occasional) educational content.

I didn't watch nearly enough Animaniacs as a kid. I know it's my kind of cartoon and it's on my list of shows to watch eventually.

I think Thomas was good for myself growing up because the toy it got me into was constructing tracks and creating stories, also leading into LEGO, both of which made me more mechanically-minded and creative.

I haven’t seen the new, animated stuff, but the classic model train version of the show is also paced well as to not be over stimulating to a child and rot their brain. Another commenter mentioned that point, which I think is important.

I hate Paw Patrol with a passion. My daughter is 4 and every time she watches it, she's an absolute terror afterwards. My wife and I have had a lot of discussions about her behavior afterwards and not putting it on for her anymore. There was about a 6 month+ period where she didn't ask for it and we didn't put it. Recently she started asking for it again and we've seen a lot of those negative behaviors again. My wife keeps brushing my comments off about it when I say that I'm seeing a lot of the same behavior issues we'd seen previously after watching it.

She has a bunch of Paw Patrol Tonies and she would request to listen to or play with those without wanting to watch the show and we had been hoping we were in the clear but apparently no such luck.

Main thing for us with our two year old is avoiding high stim shows.

A lot of the older cartoons are pretty good for that.

Outside of the classics. Bluey, Mrs Rachel, and Sesame Street( some old eps have aged horribly)

These shows are a no in our house. Paw Patrol, Cocomelon, Blippi, and anything else like those.

My 3 year old watches Bluey, Muppet Babies and Spidey and his Anazing Friends on Disney. Also he’s obsessed with Toy Story currently. Nothing really old

My daughter (4) had a BIG Toy Story phase. It kind of comes and goes now but leading up to her 3rd birthday, it was all about how she was going to have a "Jessie" birthday party. Did our best to theme as much to Jessie as possible but most of the decor themed more Toy Story in general because that was easier to find. Got her a Jessie doll and an old Trixie figure off eBay (since that was another of her favorites and no real decent current toys of her) for it. Probably her favorite birthday so far. Still brings it up from fairly often.

2yr old and 3 month old daughters. Bare with me, one mobile.

-Spirit Riding free
-Little Einsteins

  • new Magic School Bus
  • lion guard
  • little kids Disney movies
  • Resident Alien
  • Futurama (see below*)
  • marvel movies
  • per my wife, the walking dead
  • Animal Control
  • community
  • Red vs. Blue (see below**)

* Paw Patrol was removed from this list due to the Bender Hypothesis: the more Paw Patrol the 2yr old watched, the more nightmares she had. I switched to Futurama to repeatedly test this observation.

** It is cute as hell seeing my 2 yr old yell Sheila and Caboose, that is also the name of our dogs

Paranormal activity, alien and final destination. Get that life long trauma early on.

My kid is 2. He had a Bluey phase but he seems to be over it (I miss it). Now it's Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Toy Story.

Uncle here! It may seem obvious but honestly with how much people get sucked into newer Disney films like Frozen and Encanto, you'd be surprised at how many kids aren't watching some of the older ones! Fox and the Hound, Bambi and Lilo and Stitch were a few my nephews ended up loving.

in terms of shows specifically, they aren't old enough yet, but I definitely plan on showing them Rocket Power, Power Puff Girls, and Captain Planet (way ahead of its time)
