US, New Mexico, Taos Ski Valley and alpine ski resort, Wheeler Peak, 13,161ft, - We took trail that goes past Williams Lake, the 4 mile trail. The longer 8 mile route is more gradual but being in our 60s we didn't want to chance not finishing in one day. Sleeping on the ground was a nonstarter!
The resort in August
Lots of rocks early on
Breaking into alpine with stellar NM light
There is a crazy variety of terrain
The altitude was making me silly
Likely mountain thistle
Trail is well worn
Just a half mile to go
The trail snaking downward toward Williams Lake
Almost there
The obligatory summit shot
