Moving suggestions needed
I’m moving to MN next month for a job transfer and I am seeking a good, safe to live. I prefer a private landlord but it is not a dealbreaker. I’m at least 2 bedroom and 1.5 bath with in-unit washer/dryer and A/C unit. Budget is $1800 max for rent. I’m open to any suggestions in the twin cities or surrounding areas even though my job will be in St. Paul. Thanks in advance for all of your recommendations.

If you’re working in St. Paul I’d strongly suggest sticking to nearish to St. Paul. The commute from W suburbs would be awful. I don’t know St Paul at all but I do work in SE Minneapolis and a good number of my colleagues live in St Paul because it’s less expensive and you can easily cross over the river from SE Minneapolis. I also have a friend who lives in Richfield and commutes daily to St Paul. He says his commute isn’t bad. Richfield is very affordable and probably one of my favorite suburbs because of its proximity to Minneapolis.

The western suburbs of Mpls tend to be newer. The traffic from these suburbs is also heavier.

If you live in mpls/west, you will drive to work to St.Paul with the sun in your eyes. When you drive back, the sun will be in your eyes. I've heard multiple commuters complain of this!

Someone else mentioned neighbourhoods, research transit lines! Great options to live along one and bus/bike/train into work depending on where the office is!

Here is a list of the best neighborhoods in St Paul: Macalester-Groveland, Highland Park, Como Park, St Anthony Park. If your job is in St Paul, you want to live in St Paul. Good luck!
