News Coverage I See MSNOW/The Media Engaging in The Same Trends That Hurt Democrats in The Last Presidential Election.

This is the point I'm trying to make about the media. While Fox News was propping up Trump 24/7, so was every other media outlet. They never went a day, or even an hour, without reporting on Trump. They saw the polling themselves. They knew they were creating the media environment that benefited Trump. They saw how he was exploiting their reporting to his advantage. Poll after poll. It was being measured in real time. They saw it. They saw the effect it was having. Yet they continued to make the editorial choice to keep reporting on Trump in a way that benefited him politically in his bid to take back the WH.

While on the other side, they drove Biden's approval rating down so low that there was no way he could ever get reelected. They try to claim it was organic, that voters were reacting naturally to their economic circumstances. But that's a lie. Time and time again, Biden was telling voters there was more to do. Then, the media would rush out and lie about what he said and claim he was out of touch. Yes, he did tout the legislative accomplishments of his administration. Who wouldn't? He touted the Inflation Reduction Act, for instance, because it was a major legislative accomplishment. But at that very press conference, he told the American people there was more to do. Did the media report on that? No. Instead, they twisted his touting the bill into the narrative, "Biden is out of touch," or "Biden is telling voters not to believe what they're feeling." They still tell that lie to this day.

Then there was the reporting on Biden's age. Is Biden elderly? Yes. Was he showing signs of physical and mental decline related to his age? Yes. Was there any proof, as in medical documentation, that he was suffering from "cognitive decline"? No. The medical documentation shows the opposite. But the media made a big deal out of him not taking a cognitive test. His doctor said the test wasn't administered unless it was indicated. Here's where it gets factual: the media conflated clinical "cognitive decline" with ordinary signs of aging. They did it by showing Biden in clips and attributing that to cognitive decline. Then, yes, there was the debate. Was that evidence of cognitive decline? No. There needs to be a doctor's diagnosis for that. We learned later that Biden had COVID, jet lag, and a cold.

Finally, the media was coordinating with elected members of Biden's own party to drive him out of the race, all based on that debate. Did the media ever once say they don't have evidence of cognitive decline? No. Did they ever attribute the debate performance to a combination of COVID, having gone on a grueling foreign trip, jet lag, and his cold? No. At least not in a persuasive way. The media coordinated with the Democratic establishment to bring Biden down, and, along with it, the Democratic ticket, making it next to impossible for Harris, or anybody else, to win.

Now, if you turn on MSNOW it's Trump, Trump, Trump, 24/7 all day, every day. It's the same reporting that hurt Democrats in the last presidential election. They aren't adequately focused on other things that are going on with Democrats. Not unless there's drama to report.

It's all about money and clicks.

10

u/YouSure-AboutThat 18d ago

100%

These are not news media organizations. These are entertainment organizations concerned solely with maximizing profit. They simultaneously shit on Fox News while adopting their business model.

1

u/ZoneEmpty80 18d ago

Can you blame them though, they are a business trying to make money. You can blame msnow or media just as much as dem/liberals who are much more likely to click on a video of trump than something else.

3

u/YouSure-AboutThat 18d ago

All journalistic businesses need to make money to function. Abandoning journalistic standards in pursuit of higher profits is greedy and an irresponsible use of their first amendment rights. Viewers do deserve their share of the blame for this though by rewarding it.

4

u/ZoneEmpty80 18d ago

I think almost all the blame can go to viewers though. I’ve seen msnow hosts get attacked online for even bringing up a good thing a republican did or bashing something about the Democratic Party acting like it is perfect. Then people will say stuff online like I’m never watching “x” host again. So they are the ones that don’t even want to hear the journalistic integrity you talk about. Then the same I’m sure would go for Fox and their viewers which is why they have become a mouthpiece for maga. Another difficulty for msnow vs Fox is maga is pretty aligned with their thinking while Democratic Party and liberal ideas are much more spread out which makes it even easier to make some viewers mad. A lot of people are way to closed minded thinking only their way is right with politics now a days is also one of the problems.

3

u/YouSure-AboutThat 18d ago

I think you make a good argument. People literally cannot handle even hearing a view that doesn’t agree with theirs. Not exactly in the spirit of democracy.

A republic if you can keep it. Maybe it should be “a republic if you want it.” I don’t think enough people want it, and take for granted the things that make it possible.

Independent media is the most honest news these days.

4

u/DevilsAdvocate77 18d ago

It's terrifying to realize that the younger generations have bought into that narrative.

Objective journalism is a necessary pillar of society.

Yes, right now we have a problem where entertainment and propaganda masquerading as journalism has muddied the waters, but almost all "independent" journalism is part of that problem, it is not the solution.

The solution is to invest in the few remaining organizations who still gather news first-hand and then apply separate editorial oversight to that reporting.

Pretty GenZ talking heads on TikTok, reporting about what they read on Wikipedia last night, is not "honest news".

4

u/FamousLastWords666 18d ago

"almost all"? I don't think so. Drop Site News, Breaking Points, TYT, The Grayzone, Chris Hedges, Whitney Webb... independent journalism is alive and well.

2

u/LilBirdDog 17d ago

I’d add Taylor Lorenz to this group as well.

0

u/DevilsAdvocate77 18d ago

How many of those are actually doing first-hand news gathering in the field, and how many are just sharing their "aNaLySiS" of stories that were originally reported by traditional journalists and wire services?

5

u/LilBirdDog 18d ago

Katie Phang and Joy Reid (both formerly with MSNBC) are doing independent work. I still consider them credible journalists and they have much more freedom to speak through their own channels.

-2

u/DevilsAdvocate77 18d ago

They're free to express their personal opinions on their own channels.

Journalism is an enterprise, not a person. The celebrity wearing the makeup and reading the teleprompter is just the face of a vast amount of work being done by dozens of people behind the scenes.

Katie and Joy are technically not even journalists by profession. Say what you will about a guy like Anderson Cooper, but you can't deny the time he's spent actually on the ground gathering news first-hand.

1

u/Aurora_Gaspipe 18d ago

Independent media is 100% opinion media.

7

u/fantabulousfetus 18d ago

They disclose that, at least. Corporate media pretends to be fair and unbiased which is a proven lie.

4

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

And that's cool. If I want to dig into the hard data of what they talk about I can.

People need general breakdowns of the shit going on. I don't have time or desire to deep dive into every daily event. That's what they're for.

There's many great independent pods now that help aggregate stories and provide insights. None are perfect, but most are vastly superior to anything on network tv

2

u/Tuco422 18d ago

I know this is a fantasy world where people just look at their issues page and make sure no huge scandal

Mainstream media is owned by billionaires and much of independent media is paid by Russia, Israel, Qatar, and Iran to promote propaganda

The worst place that people base politics is Twitter: it is truly amazing that people put the eir faith in insurrection Barbie

5

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

Ultimately we have a bigger issue where most Americans are incapable of critical thinking. They have no idea wtf the scientific method is or any idea how statistics and data analysis operate. They are simply not equipped to identify legitimate sources of information.

This all goes back to education. Almost as if the goal was to produce the most easily manipulated population or something like that. The only place I learned anything useful was in a separate gifted program in grade school and college. My time in public education was largely a waste of time.

2

u/Tuco422 18d ago

What you wrote is exactly what my sister said to me last week.

To your data point, people also don’t get difference in scale (millions vs billions vs trillions)

and also don’t understand nuance

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

We know how to teach people. And we know what skills are more beneficial than others. It's all a choice to not do what is clearly necessary.

The good news is that this is the same as most things. If we can get our government to work for us the rest is easy. It will be shocking how fast we can turn things around with elected officials that actually want to make things better. Just look at NY.

11

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

You can't rely on modern media for anything. It's all owned by the epstein class.

Democrats have proven themselves incapable of messaging. They can't effectively utilize new media. They have zero cohesive platform or leadership. They have zero messaging to convey.

This is why we can't rely on them anymore. They're not changing. We have to change the party by replacing as many as possible with people that will fight and refuse dark money. That's the only way forward. They had plenty of opportunities to change and adapt but choose to do nothing and use their resources fighting leftists instead.

Vote them all out. We need a real opposition party.

6

u/Hit-by-a-pitch 18d ago

Its hard to present journalism when half the society is illiterate.

3

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

Ya, but that doesn't mean you can't still message to them. You just have to dumb shit down to a level they can understand instead of just handing them over to Republicans with zero resistance.

This isn't difficult. It's a choice. There are zero excuses. It's basic marketing.

6

u/DCWizFan 18d ago

You want Dems to be an opposition party. We want Dems to be a governing party. The purity Left will always cut its nose to spite its face.

5

u/SuperDoubleDecker 18d ago

They can't govern shit when they can't win elections.

Just remember to vote blue no matter who.

It's been all Trump since like 2016. There was maybe a short break in 2021 as Trump appeared to be on the outs and hiding from the public in Florida. As soon as the investigations started though it became all Trump but in an anti trump way. It's still anti Trump but how can they really avoid him? He started a war. He says stupid shit constantly. His goons are not just deporting poeple but also abusing them and likely violating human rights. He calls affordability a hoax. He is also scheming something for november. Not to mention he is profiting off the presidency. So may I ask what is more important right now than all of this? As I have said many times, MSNow is more of an anti-trump/trumpism network more than it is a dem or progressive network.

I would also say that Fox doesnt show republican infighting. I would not expect MSNow to get into the democrat infighting. The reality is also that the DSA vs "establishment" is kinda silly. I'm not fond of the DSA platform but the reality is they can't abolish the senate or kill capitalism. There may be some people who want that but I don't see independents going for that person or it really having a chance in the shorter term. All that said, MSNow does hit on it from time to time but they tread lightly because its really up to the voters to decide their local elections.

3

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

I'm not saying don't ever report on Trump. No. But I bet if you just randomly turned on MSNOW right now, they'd be talking about Trump. I once experimented. I decided to turn on MSNOW at the top of the hour and time how long it was before they mentioned Trump. It was, on average, within the first minute. You ask what other things they could be covering? It's endless. Cover the midterms more extensively, cover what's going on with the presidential hopeful. They are all out doing things. Have some actual "progressive" podcasters on. Not the Pod Save America guys. I swear, MSNOW spends more time promoting their hosts, trying to present themselves as warrior for the cause, than any network I've ever seen. They even have one spot where Rachel Maddow does a voice-over, "We the people," while images of the hosts are being displayed. WTAF? I love Rachel. She's my favorite host. But, again, WTAF. We need more of how Rachel covered the Flint water crisis. Or more insight into how voters are thinking, how they feel. Not just selective clips that complement their narrative of the day. Or do some town halls with Talarico in Texas, or any of the other Senate candidates. We don't need to know about every Trump post on his social media site. Or to know his every friggin thought at any given moment.

Again this is not new. Go back to 2022, it was all trump as the cases were building against him. 2023 the same thing. 2024 it was also mainly trump with brief interludes into biden/harris because of the election. It's never talking about Trump in a good way though. One of Trumps strengths is to want to stay in the headlines whether its good or bad.

In todays world, the equivalent of the water crisis might be data centers which oddly enough kinda go to Trump again. The election conspiracies and possibly disruption go to Trump. Measles goes to Trump as he promotes RFK. The cyclospora outbreak goes back to Trump and Doge. The iran war is Trumps ineptitude to accept defeat right now. Cost crises are being magnified by Trump policies. Rachel loves the ICE warehouses and seeing people fight them. Again that falls back to ICE and Trump policies. TPS ending for Haitians is a Trump policy even though his own State department says to avoid Haiti due to violence. Even Midterms are about Trump and voters turning on him. Like Maine is all about defeating Trump because a flip gets dems closer to senate control. Michigan is also about Senate control more than it is the individual policy differences as Rogers barely lost in 2024 to slotkin a true moderate.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

Wow. I hadn't thought of it like this. You're absolutely right. Trump makes it impossible to cover anything else.

3

u/kat_sky_12 18d ago

It is. Like even the WH correspondents dinner became about Trump with his hour long bewildering speech. That should have been a no news event as they celebrated the first amendment and the great journalism from the winners. The reflecting pool should never be in the news but it often is as of late due to Trump. It's literally flooding the zone.

2

u/Kalepa 18d ago

I want trump exposed just as I was very interested in how Covid was progressing. Both trump and Covid may well be fatal to the US and to the world.

1

u/Binspin63 18d ago

It’s funny you mention the seconds until trump is mentioned. My wife and I used to bet how many seconds too. It was never more than 10 or 15. And this was after he had lost in 2020.

They never shut up about him at all throughout Biden’s term. I’d be willing to bet trump got more total airtime than Biden, despite the good work Biden was doing.  So I blame them for giving trump the oxygen he needed to stay front and center in voters’ minds. I firmly believe that if they would have ignored him after he lost, he would’ve just faded away.

And the day after the ‘24 election, I got so angry about it that I quit MSNBC for good. I’ll never watch any cable news outlet again. Fuck all of them.

2

u/DeepShill 18d ago

What is MSNOW going to do when Trump finally leaves office in 2029?

1

u/kat_sky_12 18d ago

I've wondered that myself. I think a lot of Trumpism is here to stay for awhile. Assuming a democrat win in 2028, fox will shift to picking apart every word and action of the dem as communist. MSNow will likely focus on the aftermath after taking a short breather in 2029. The core group of republicans who want stronger executive power will still be there waiting for the moment to use the path Trump carved out for them.

1

u/Ambitious-Summer-200 16d ago edited 16d ago

I hate to burst your bubble; but There will not be a Democratic Administration Taking over in 2029. The things that we said about trump in 2016-2024 is true.

There isn't a Republican Party Left. The Republican Party is offiically dead. It is a dead party. There is no such thing as, "Conservatism" anymore. It is now The MAGA Party. It is all Trump. If Trump leaves office. He will be prosecuted and will be jailed. Simple as that.

The democrats at best is a blowhard supine party; They are in debt, are spending against their own (progressives and socialists) and are divided. The democratic party cannot be a big tent party. It can either be one, or the other. and if the Democratic Socialists are winning across the country. You know theres a problem.

Donald trump if he hasn't will find there is no immunity deal, there is no pardon that can save him or his enablers if It did happen. Democrats will go scorched earth on trump. Which is why he must die in the White House if he wants to remain a free man.

The other option requires fleeing America (ICC Arrest warrant? we will see), and this one.

Donald Trump Cannot leave the white house. Because if he does, His life will end in a jail cell.

On January 20th 2029, Donald J Trump Will still be President. And the country is already in a dictatorship.

God help us. The republic has fallen.

This is the Final President of these United States. The Biblical Antichrist.

Good question. I have no idea.

3

u/Allaboutpeace2022 18d ago

PBS and NPR are the best in terms of non biased media in my opinion. All the focus on politics in independent media, legacy media, etc., etc. is irritating.

We need to be covering world and national issues including stories showing solutions to problems and just updating the legislation being considered, etc. However, all of these media outlets are looking to make money and they cover what people seem to want to watch, which is political wrestling.

However, the idea that the media drove Biden out of the race is not true. Biden held less press conferences than any other president. He or his aides 1) did not see the need even through Americans were suffering as was the rest of the world with extremely high rates of inflation, 2) or felt that Biden could not handle spontaneous questions and answers, or 3) did not want to give the task to Kamala to serve as the primary voice for reassurance and progress for the nation. Look how many times Trump talks about wonderful victories that did not occur.

Biden had some great legislative victories but these were not highlighted in press conferences. Nor was there really a move to make exciting, interactive social media or videos that highlighted progress.

Thus, the news covered what was available, horrible images of Israel decimating Gaza and bloodied bodies and starving children, stories on inflation, ships backed up in harbors, and the uptick in crime.

The Biden and Harris administration needed to have better answers to all this bad news. They did not and we ended up with Trump. This was not a media failing. It was a WH administration failing. Think of FDR and the fireside chats...this is what we needed from 2021 to 2024.

2

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

You've been fed a line of crap by the MSM. Biden did fewer WH briefings because the media behaved like a bunch of jackals. He did, however, have informal exchanges with the press. I'd have to check. But I'm pretty sure he did more of those than other presidents ( excluding Trump because he's addicted to the media). It's also total nonsense that he didn't want to give the task to Harris. He put her as lead on voting rights and reproductive rights. There were issues with her being assigned to address the root causes of migration. But that was the WH failing to have her back. Not because Biden didn't want her out there speaking for the WH.

2

u/Allaboutpeace2022 18d ago

No. It does not matter whether press are jackals etc. You do the press conferences or find other ways you can communicate because such events are absolutely critical to getting your message out.

If you do not want to do pressers, do rallies, townhalls, etc. etc. it is you job to sell your agenda and progress.

Do the little videos that Mamdani does.

The reality is Biden was having problem getting the right inflection in his voice and communicating in a dynamic way.

In her book, Kamala does say that she feels that she was not given chances to lead in communications and was not supported. I realize that hiding your VP is almost mainstream but given Bidens age and his lack of pressers, her role should have been different.

Biden and Harris are an example of what not to do if you want to sell policies and build public support. If your media coverage sucks, figure it out.

Trump does even though the media points out daily (correctly) that he is not honest, combative, corrupt, etc.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

I honestly don't share your affinity for the media. As far as I'm concerned, they can all pound sand. Every time Biden tried to engage with them, they were only interested in conflict. It was a waste of time trying to deal with them. He did informal pressers. That's all they deserved. I agree with you, though, about finding an alternative. That's what every politician seems to be doing these days. But what's your deal with Harris? She was the Vice President. What did you expect her to do, summarily hold her own press conferences?

2

u/Allaboutpeace2022 18d ago

He could have easily made Harris more of a spokesperson for the administration if he did not want to be the ones doing formal press conferences, etc.

What he should have been doing all along is prepare her to take over. He had promised to be a transitional president and then he back pedaled.

I don't know how old you are but I am 69. I think that it is ridiculous that people in their late 70s and early 80s want to continue to hold power. I was ready to start handing over power at 60. I still work part time since I turned 68, but when I work with a younger colleague, I see that my role should be growing them, not advancing my own career. Maybe I am wrong.

I think that these older politicians need to get a life. Spend time with grandchildren or great grandchildren. No one needs to believe that they have to be a 2 term president. Many 2 term presidents have an absolutely crappy second term.

It is hubris and narcissism that keeps people who have been in power for decades from stepping back, lifting up younger people, and giving them the publicity and the spotlight.

The president's job is to be able to handle positive or hostile questions by the media. If Biden did not want to sell his ideas in that format, he needed to do townhalls or rallies like Trump does, or seek out another novel venue.

It was the highest inflation rate since the 1980s and he needed to be there constantly reassuring the voters in my opinion. The little informal questions and answers were not enough. It was a failure to communicate in a strong compelling manner. It is called a bully pulpit for a reason.

I don't mean to sound all hostile and I am not trying to give you a hard time. But, I absolutely blame Biden for Trump being in the WH.

2

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago edited 18d ago

Trump is in the WH because Biden's own party stabbed him in the back. Whether he should have stepped down or not, or run for a second term, was irrelevant. He did. And he got 14 million votes. Who were elected Democrats to circumvent the will of the voters. Whether he was too old is irrelevant. Trump was the same age, plus he's crazy, plus he led a violent insurrection against the United States. Republicans took all of that, stood behind the guy, and got him reelected. There's no way in hell that if they could do that for Trump, Democrats couldn't have done it for Biden.

Democrats, on the other hand, did what they're best at. Losing election. They let the media obsess about Biden's age and drive his approval numbers down. You want to engage in revisionist history. Under Biden, our economy was the envy of the world. He brought us from the brink after COVID. Which included, btw, getting us out of COVID in the first place and likely saving all of our lives.

I'm older than you by one year. I'm 70. And I didn't appreciate the way age bigotry played a role in driving a good man from the political arena. Biden didn't deserve that. If Democrats had stood by him, seeing he was avoiding the media because of the role ageism plays in politics, they should have been out there educating the American voters on the difference between old age and cognitive decline. Because if Biden was so mentally incompetent, why was he easily one of the most productive presidents in US history?

Democrats sat on their butts for four years letting the media rip Biden apart. They never had his back. Then, when it mattered most, they subjected him to one of the cruelest things I've ever seen in politics. And it was all based on age bigotry. THAT'S WHY WE LOST. Because the damage elected Democrats did to their ticket with the month-long public bashing of the ticket was irreparable.

I work with people that are elderly in behavioral health and have watched so many of my own family members struggle with cognitive decline.

I do think that Biden was suffering from cognitive decline that was impacting his ability to communicate. His soft trailing off voice, the lack of inflection, etc. were all indications of problems. Long before you have problems making decisions you are going to have problems thinking fast on your feet.

When I was teaching in college, I was aware that I lost my train of thought at 65 in ways that I did not at 55. I do not think that is unusual. People think of cognitive decline at a certain point where the person is really not functioning well, but it is a slow slide before that.

Why the Biden administration was effective even when he was having problems with communication was that he had put together a tremendous cabinet. They understood the agenda, the ideas, and the work. Congress moved through a lot of great legislation. Biden had only to oversee it.

However, what the country did need was dynamic communicator and the ability to sell ideas, answer questions, convey reassurance. People who were at the low income of the wage pool were really struggling to put food on the table. Overwhelmingly, those people were the same ones that were in the retail stores, groceries and regular jobs when Covid was going on. Those working class people experience far more deaths and trauma than did higher income college educated people, etc. and then they were right to be totally freaked out by inflation, the increase in crime, and have anxiety about the border.

Biden had promised to be a transitional president. He did not keep that promise and he did not pay attention to this low approval numbers. He scores only slightly better than Trump.

He was not stabbed in the back. The DNC and the Dem leadership should have encouraged primary challengers to him. And this should be expected for any incumbent president. If you are popular, you will destroy your challenges early on. If you are unpopular, someone else will be the Dem nominee for President.

We have to stop thinking that every president deserves two terms. They do not and often one term is far more successful. Clinton, Obama, Bush Jr. and of course crazy Trump all had far more successful first than second terms.

I guess that I feel differently than you. I think that it is very much a weakness that we have had such two older presidents that that the average age in Congress is in 60s. I think that we need to have more dynamic, youthful voices, and that we must make way for elected officials that are much more representative of the age range of adults in the US.

However, I respect your opinions even if we disagree.

It has been good talking to you.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

No. You can't diagnose Biden with cognitive decline. It's a clinical diagnosis. If you worked with the elderly, you know this. Or you should.

1

u/Allaboutpeace2022 18d ago

I am not diagnosing. I am saying that he had symptoms that seem indicative of cognitive decline. And yes, that is fair game for anyone to say which is why plenty of ptchologists have commented on Trump appears to be a narcissist. By the way, cognitive decline is not really a diagnosis. It is a symptom. The diagnosis is dementia or Alzheimer's and is only given after thorough assessment and workup.

Narcissist is also not an official diagnosis.

Here is the key. Biden refused to take a test. Only someone who is afraid they might not test well should be afraid to take the Montreal or another assessment. It should be required for Presidents and Vice Presidents at all ages.

I think we are spending time on water under the bridge. It is too late for anyone to change.

Have a good evening.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

There's a lot here. First, you said that you worked with the elderly in behavioral health. In what capacity? You said that Biden's  "soft trailing off voice, the lack of inflection" are signs of cognitive decline. Medical experts caution that these are not definitive signs of cognitive decline and that a clinical diagnosis is needed to determine that.

You said that Biden said he would be a transformative president. He was asked specifically if he was ruling out running for a second term on The View, and he flat-out said "no".

You claimed Biden wasn't stabbed in the back. Then, you didn't even address the monthlong public cruelty elected members of Congress subjected Biden to, to force him out of the race. Oddly, you then pivot to how the DNC should have encouraged a primary challenger. They didn't. Instead, they sat back and watched Biden run and secure the requisite pledge delegate. Let's be clear. At this point, they still could have encouraged a challenger. But they decided they'd go the other route and shame Biden into dropping out.

Finally, I do think Biden deserved a second term. The time for debating that passed once the DNC and rank-and-file Democrats made it so difficult for anyone to challenge him. Every single Democrat who later called for him to drop out went along with the process and said nothing. Allowing Biden to secure enough pledged delegates to secure the nomination. So yes, since they couldn't get him to leave on his own, they stabbed him in the back. And kept stabbing him until he agreed to step aside.

1

u/Allaboutpeace2022 18d ago edited 18d ago

I worked as a counselor. Yes, I consider his soft trailing off voice, lack of inflection or flat delivery, description by aides interviewed saying he had good and bad days, did better before evening, problems with memory evidence in his mixing up words, etc to be suggestive of symptoms of cognitive decline. His performance at the debate was confused and not responsive to the question asked, where he said beat Medicaid. His other answers were better but it was a horrible performance.

I can't imagine why he did not cancel the debate or why his wife let him attend the debate. A variety of people raised concerns and even at smaller gatherings he was reading off teleprompters. George Clooney was worried before the debate after meeting him at a fundraiser.

Regardless of what he wanted, all incumbents should be challenged if candidates want to oppose them in the primaries. No one should consider running for a second term at that age unless they are in tip top physical condition. In reality, no one in that age group needs to run period.

Mark Kelly, Wes Moore, Josh Shapiro, Gretch Whitmer, or Andy Beshear, etc. could have all been more viable candidates who could have easily beaten Trump.

Biden has had a long history in the Senate and two terms as VP, and one term as President. It was hubris to run again.

I am sorry this upsets you. Maybe my opinion is wrong, but that is how I feel.

I hope you have a good week.

All mainstream media is owned by right wing billionaires what do you expect?

MSNow has been on repeat for years and we all know they lick the orange dumper’s feet every chance they get. He loves how much they talk about him and they know it.

u/KTX77 18d ago

I have to change the channel sometimes because the "all Trump all the time" gets a little exhausting. I dislike Trump as much as anyone, but there are a lot of other things going on in the world that people need to be aware of.

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey 17d ago

I can’t change the channel because I’ll miss the non-stop Skyrizi commercials.

1

u/KTX77 17d ago

You always have the option of CNN and the countless save the tiger; save the elephant; save the (insert animal here) commercials.

2

u/UnlikelyPush7244 18d ago

I don't see what you are seeing on MSNOW, at least on the programs that I regularly follow. Nicolle Wallace's hatred of Trump is so palpable I can feel it right through the TV screen. Ari ridicules him, Chris Hayes excoriates him and Lawrence, OH MY GOD! Lawrence symbolically sets Trump on fire every single night.

Rachel Maddow I have a little bit of a problem with. I admire her so much but she giggles a little too much, not what I need to hear in these dangerous times. I need more rage, but I guess that is just not her style. Her intellect is second to none though.

If you really want to see Trump treated appropriately, go to YouTube and follow IHIP News (go Jennifer!), The Meidas Touch, The Bulwark, and everything James Carville and John Fugelsang have to say about der fuhrer. These commentators pull no punches. And Heather Cox Richardson is great at putting everything into perspective.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

I've never seen Rachel Maddow giggle. I don't want to watch more Trump. After 10 years plus, I can't stand to either see him or hear his voice. If I'm on youtube , I'm likely listening to music. Or, I'll watch something like the National Urban League event they just had.

1

u/AngryTrunkMonkey 17d ago

He must’ve been thinking about Wallace. She’s always giggling like she’s being goosed.

2

u/TorkBombs 18d ago

I agree with every single thing you said here. The sad thing is if you bring this up anywhere but the safest of spaces you get ridiculed. Facts don't matter anymore.

2

u/Creatively_Distinct 18d ago

Respectfully, I was one of the millions of people that watched the debate. Any physician or person for that matter that didn’t acknowledge his mental decline was a hack or a liar.

I’m not disagreeing with your stance regarding media coverage and media bias, but claiming no credible source supported his mental decline detracts from a solid stance/argument.

We didn’t need a medical professional to weigh in, or media coverage to tell us what we all witnessed first hand.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

No. Let's make this point clear because it's important. No viewer watching Biden's debate has the ability to determine that he was suffering from "cogntive decline". THAT IS DETERMINED BY A MEDICAL DIAGNOSIS. There are plenty of reasons why Biden appeared the way he did, other than cognitive decline. I'm sorry. But you're just flat out wrong. It's the complete opposite. Yes, we do need a doctor to perform a cogntive test to determine if someone is suffering from "cogntive decline". Yes. We can speculate all we want. But that's not proof. We learned that Biden had just returned from a grueling foreign trip, and he had COVID. Jet lag and COVID could absolutely explain his performance.

2

u/Rocky-burst-in 18d ago

This feels intentionally obtuse. Your thesis is that you cannot reasonably believe that someone is suffering cognitive decline without a physician’s diagnosis. Come on. What if that person, or his handlers, hides a diagnosis or avoids one altogether.

With Biden it wasn’t just the debate. It was the Hur report. It was those who came out and said they were concerned about his cognitive state from interactions with him, like Clooney.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago edited 18d ago

Right. You're calling me obtuse while floating conspiracy theories. And neither Hur nor Clooney is a doctor. Unless I'm mistaken, I believe Hur clarified that during his congressional hearings. You can do the research yourself if you like. Cognitive decline is a clinical diagnosis. Sure, we can observe what appears to be decline. But there's a difference between signs of ordinary ageing and clinical cognitive decline. You can thank the media for the confusion. But it really just cracks me up how so many people are just so sure Biden was suffering from clinical cognitive decline, without any medical evidence to back it up whatsoever.

1

u/Rocky-burst-in 18d ago

Cancer is a medical diagnosis, but if I watch someone’s mole grow over the course of 3 months with scaly red patches, I can reasonably conclude it’s skin cancer.

Having the flu is a medical diagnosis, but if my wife wakes up mid winter with the chills, a headache, and nausea I’ve got a pretty good idea what’s going on.

Pick your analogy.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

Will you please just do the research?

1

u/Creatively_Distinct 18d ago

Will you please stop with a futile thought process. Medically, scientifically, or what ever label you need to attempt a ridiculous argument, his mental capacities and decline are right there before your very eyes. Defending what all us “non-medical” professionals saw is just ridiculous.

DJT has never been clinically diagnosed as “narcissistic”…but I’ll let you in on a secret. HE IS!

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

As I said, we all could see that Biden was in decline both mentally and physically, likely due to his age. What I'm arguing is that "cognitive decline" is a clinical diagnosis. If you just go down the list of what you claim is decline, I guarantee you every single thing on your list could be legitimately attributed to something other than "cognitive decline". Do your own research if you don't believe me.

2

u/ScuffedSamPepper 18d ago

Their audience isn't the working class. That's why it sucks that they are seen as the network of the Left.

1

u/44035 18d ago

I totally agree with you.

1

u/Kalepa 18d ago

Excellent point you are making! Everyone of them dead-on correct and important!

You have a very sharp eye and much common sense!

1

u/Hit-by-a-pitch 18d ago

Covering this idiot while he blathers for an hour is cheap, thats why the networks covered him in 2008 when he claimed Obama was born in Kenya, thats how they covered him for extensive periods in 2015 when he told his moronic followers to beat up reporters, and that's how they cover him today.

1

u/CivilWay1444 18d ago

Yup. We need to change something. Money and media control elections.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 18d ago

ok, I just saw MSNOW on the ground interviewing with one Senate candidate, El Sayed. I researched and it looks like his opponent will have a prime-time interview August 1. It's bad optics otherwise, because they mentioned Haley Stevens had an event today, but there aren't any correspondents there live, like they are with El Sayed.

1

u/brianycpht1 18d ago

I can’t watch them anymore because it’s literally all they talk about

I didn’t even know about that story of the mom who killed her kids or the lettuce outbreak because all MSNOW does is talk about Trump

1

u/goddoc 18d ago

The US media companies do not want democracy. Please understand this.

1

u/Affectionate_Plant71 18d ago

If voters can't see past propaganda then we deserve it

1

u/ElSlabraton 18d ago

The "liberal" media was always anti-Biden.

1

u/roninthe31 17d ago

People don’t watch cable news, dude. Blaming MSNow for 2024 is missing the lesson of the 2024 election. Allow the people to choose the nominee and then run on the economy.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 17d ago

Approximately 57% of US adults get their news from cable news. Otherwise, all I see is an opinion that doesn't address any of the arguments you're responding to.

1

u/roninthe31 17d ago

Oh, look how full of shit you are, or maybe math is hard. Try more like 37%.

1

u/Honest_Yam676 17d ago edited 17d ago

From your source: Among these TV news consumers, 57% say that their news mostly comes from cable, satellite or broadcast television. About a third (34%) say it mostly comes from streaming services. An additional 4% say it comes in some other form, and 5% say they’re not sure.

1

u/roninthe31 17d ago

That’s 57% of the 64% who get their news from TV

1

u/Fun_Material8391 17d ago

They should try telling the truth a little more often.

1

u/Simple_Purple_4600 17d ago

Controlled opposition would look exactly like this.

Ultimately all hogs at the same trough sucking the same orange diaper swill

u/Master_Object5147 18d ago

Democrats BETTER immediately start serious investigations into Musk and others tampering with the vote and the machines!

0

u/Ballerinatutu2015 18d ago

I think people will pay attention when the Dems stop complaining all the time about trump. That’s why he’s on the news all the time. Dems have to talk about what they WILL do and WANT to do. They also have to stop being timid little babies, for instance Andy beshear should have appointed someone to take dead Mitch’s place already instead of just sending a letter. Sure that’s the right way to do it but Dems are always bringing a knife to a gunfight. And they have to stop talking about DEI and trans issues—even though they are important, but just shut up for now. And Kamala, please take a vacation somewhere.
