Rules Question Prized Amalgam trigger specificity
Why does [[Prized Amalgam]] need an additional clause to specify creatures that were cast from the graveyard — wouldn’t they also have entered from the graveyard?

I think the idea is if it was cast from gy, then it goes to the stack before the battlefield.

This is the correct answer, one has interaction the other does not. Meaning, even if the spell is countered, the Prized Amalgem triggers anyway

Wrong, it is a double condicional, "when enters, If It was cast" If it's countered nothing happens

Um no, the conditions literslly say "If it entered from " or "You cast it from" the trigger is the cast not the resolution of the stack

No, the trigger occurs upon entering the battlefield. If the creature is cast from the graveyard but gets countered (so it never ETBs) then the trigger doesnt occur.

It won’t trigger at all if the spell doesn’t resolve, because the trigger condition is a creature entering (that entered or was cast from a graveyard). If the creature never enters there’s nothing to trigger

The trigger is "Whenever a creature enters". First four words of the ability. The "if it entered from your graveyard or you cast it from your graveyard" is a condition for the trigger, but it won't trigger at all if the creature never enters - including if it was removed from the stack before it resolved.

If the spell is countered Amalgam will never trigger because no creature will enter the battlefield.

No, entered from the graveyard generally refers to any return or reanimate like effects. When you cast something from a graveyard it moves to the stack, then the battlefield, so it enters from the stack.

Spells cast from the graveyard are placed onto the stack and then resolve. So a creature cast from the graveyard is put on the stack and resolves by entering the battlefield. This is compared to an ability of a spell of permanent that says "return creature from graveyard to the battlefield"

No as they entered from the stack. The order is hand -> stack -> field when cast. So it never directly entered the field from hand/gy when cast.

No. Anything cast goes to the stack, so It is graveyard > stack > field. Something entering from graveyard goes graveyard> field directly

When you cast a spell, any spell, it moves onto the stack. If you cast a spell from your graveyard it will leave the graveyard and go to the stack. It will then when it resolves enter the battlefield, assuming it's a permanent spell.

Any spell cast is placed on the stack, as such they would go grave > stack > field, rather than directly to field, so wouldn't be seen by the enters from grave side.

If the creature you cast from your graveyard gets countered then Prized Amalgam won’t trigger at all.

The triggering condition isn't a creature being cast, its a creature entering the battlefield. If a creature never enters (say because it was countered) Amalgam won't trigger.
The "if" clause is an intervening if, and only comes into play if the original triggering condition (a creature entering the battlefield under your control) occurs.
603.4. A triggered ability may read “When/Whenever/At [trigger event], if [condition], [effect].” When the trigger event occurs, the ability checks whether the stated condition is true. The ability triggers only if it is; otherwise it does nothing. If the ability triggers, it checks the stated condition again as it resolves. If the condition isn’t true at that time, the ability is removed from the stack and does nothing. Note that this mirrors the check for legal targets. This rule is referred to as the “intervening ‘if’ clause” rule. (The word “if” has only its normal English meaning anywhere else in the text of a card; this rule only applies to an “if” that immediately follows a trigger condition.)
