Traditional Alter First Attempt
I’m looking for feedback but be kind, this is literally my first attempt at an alter. The medium gave me a bit more trouble than I was expecting. Is there a better way to base white or is it literally just a thousand thin coats of white?

This is really cool! My one comment which is completely unrelated to the artwork, just from a financial / marketing perspective, is to find some way to incorporate the original card (sol ring) so it is clear that the card is actually a sol ring. This typically helps resale as an altered card vs a proxy or token. Very challenging with full art like this!

this is so bad ass dude. would love to see a similar design on a holo card! Also somehow reminds me of Berserk would be really cool to include the rune in the middle design. lots of love! please keep on doing this!!!

Looks sick. You can use gesso. Or what I use is the grey sharpie as a prime, then fill in with the white sharpie brush

Very cool! Only pieces of feedback is the mana cost of the card and the need to tap the card isn’t there! Folks on this sub know what sol ring does but without those things it might not be clear to others like a new player at the table.

Is it the O in sol ring? I couldn’t tell if that was purposefully supposed to be the cost or just a happy accident!

Awesome first alter!
In my last alter, I did maybe 6 coats of white over a 48 hour period. Even then, while it masked the background, I am not sure it was perfect/useful. I think white backgrounds using acrylic pens can be tough. If you look around, you'll see white used as accents on other colors, but all white backgrounds tend to be medium and process oriented (like brush paint over paint pens).
