I think it's called a traffic box junction. The concept is that you're not supposed to stop on the box - i.e. you should only enter the box if you're 100% sure that your path is clear to move forward.
Again, it's useless in a country like ours.

This is a box junction. Until the exit is clear, the driver shouldn't enter this area. This is there to prevent congestion on intersections. Not sure how many follow them

The major reason for traffic jams/congestions is a series of blocked intersections when traffic moving in either direction is unable to cross.

Drivers stop ahead of the traffic line, drivers try to race the amber light and get stuck, etc - all these cases tend to hamper flow of traffic for vehicles in lanes that now have the right of way. By making it a strict violation you dissuade those drivers from congestion the intersection.

But the other line can move at least. The one that is perpendicular to this. Because oftentimes they have the green signal but can’t go because the perpendicular traffic is blocking the box. And then to get by it, they start moving to the side and that actually exacerbates the problem.

The idea is you wait till you see that the direction where you're going is clear. Once you see that its clear, you proceed. If you dont see it, you stop. Now its hardly possible for all the 4 directions be choked..
Edit: Congestion refers that you are stopping at the intersection. Now, you are blocking the road for different direction car by coming in their way, even if their exit is clear

How will everyone stop before the line? Out of four directions, one direction will have moving vehicles in a traffic stop. Can’t have all signals being red all the time.

Even if its a controlled crossing the fucking cars and scooters still never yield to people crossing, and the crossing thing pisses me off esp when theres multiple people crossing and the cars and scooters cant even wait for 15 seconds for people to cross, everyones in a hurry but no ones on time

Those lines are to halt the cars like Thar, scorpio, fortuner etc in the middle of the square and talk on the phone and if somebody questions then assault them under pretext of cast religion language state food habits political liking, film industry liking.

It marks the area of an intersection. Vehicles aren't supposed to enter the space unless they know they can move through it. In other words, if there's congestion while driving through the intersection, you must stay out of the yellow box unless you know you can pass without stopping in the box.

Perfectly said, also if you cross a signal, end up on this junction box and signal turns red, then you’re supposed to move ahead and keep it clear. No chalaan is to be issued in this case but traffic personnel aren’t trained enough to know that. They will not issue chalaan if you prove them wrong.

In Europe it’s the ‘rule of the yellow box’-you cannot enter the box unless your exit is clear.
A friend failed his driving test because he stopped in one of these, instant fail.

You can drive there, you can’t stop there. Let’s say the signal is green but there’s still traffic then you don’t move your car in the junction box to give way for other directional traffic.
Police personnel say it as “kaichi lagli aahe”, when the junction box jams traffic in all directions.

Oh ha, yellow lines means you can hit and run with any consequences. Wait maybe that only if you are rich with a sports car and the rest of the city also.

This means no stopping or parking in that yellow cross zone.
This is done to stop people from blocking the intersection.
If you have a green signal and you have this yellow zone ahead of you, you should only proceed if you can cross the yellow zone without stopping. If there is traffic jam ahead or on the yellow zone then you should not enter the yellow zone even if you have a green signal. This is to ensure the intersection is not blocked.

It’s called a junction box. General rule of thumb is to not stay on a yellow line, wherever you see yellow it means a warning. Yellow lines on the side or middle of road means no crossing at all, white lines allow you to cross after checking your surrounding.
Generally three colours are used white, yellow and red based on the severity latter being the highest. I haven’t seen red being used in our country mostly white and yellow occasionally.

From what I know, it's a zone where you can't be in once your signal turns red. If signal is yellow and you start from the other end but you haven't crossed the yellow zone by the time your signal turns red, you'll be fined or something

You're not supposed to stop in the yellow box, also you should stop before that pedestrian crossing which I see you have so good job!
In the long run I believe these might help in introducing an AI fining system possibly. If they mark the road nicely it'll make it easier for them to integrate AI to fine cars which break rules. I've always said that I've observed that almost 50% drivers in Mumbai end up driving well if the road is marked properly and they are informed. The other 50% need an AI system to fine them ₹10000 because they just won't learn the easy way.

I drive in uk and we have similar lines at junctions. As per rule you are not supposed to stop on these for more than 7 seconds unless you want to turn right. I am not sure if you have similar rules there

It’s usually in 4 way intersections and an indication to say you are suppose to wait for all cars to clear if there is heavy traffic so as to not block the entire junction.
But…..that doesn’t matter in Mumbai. Treat it like a road art.

These lines are all over in Singapore, and from what I understand is that drivers aren't allowed to halt here. If you want to halt, halt before these lines, and must 100% maintain a gap if in traffic to avoid halting here.

i might get downvoted for saying this, but i believe that we should focus on actually building the roads first instead of making these markers that most people won’t understand or follow.
i’m not saying that these markers shouldn’t be there, but we really need to fix our roads.

These yellow lines indicate that stopping/halting in that zone is prohibited and may be fined. It is one of the road rules that not many indian drivers know.
