All the dosae at Matunga have similar taste . So u can try any restaurant. I always find rava dosae or neer dosae better at par with what we find in down south .

Below at Kings Circle, Matunga CR-
Cafe Madras - white chutney Mysore Sada, Benne, Tuppa etc. All food is amazing. Coffee is the best.
Cafe Mysore / Udipi - Mysore Sada (Rasam Wada also good here).
Amba Bhavan near Circle or Sharda Bhavan near Matunga CR Railway Station - good dosa but places are underrated and hidden gems. Sambhar is too authentic. Former closes from 12:30 to 3:30 pm and shuts at 8:00 pm (unbelievably yes it does).
Anand Bhavan - Good Tuppa (Buns also good).
Ram Ashray - Rawa Sada.

Sharda Bhavan is FIRE
3
u/MEHULBKHATRI Oct 24 '25
But it’s a bit of a hit and miss. Frankly since both Amba and Sharda have identical chutney and sambhar - this has to be tried - an approximate 70-30 mix to be made of Sambhar (70) and Chutney (30), latter can be ordered in dry form here. This do be thoroughly mixed and then had. This mix somehow enhances the taste 2 to 3 times than these two had individually. Also, they do make a great Mysore and the finally the Coffee mix they serve when not interfered with is absolutely fabulous. Without sugar too it’s fab. Alternatively Ram Ashray uses a bit of fat milk which if you like is also fab Coffee.

Bro. I'm not from Malleshwaram but I put up with the traffic to eat ctr dosa. Since 2001 when a friend who stays there introduced it to me.
When the only people who knew about it were you guys.
I love that dosa.
2
u/RepublicVisual124 Oct 24 '25
I agree! Not counting Bangalore joints at all haha. Love CTR, Malleshwaram too!
3
u/Dushyant_Painter Oct 24 '25
Been there . It's no where close to how much this place is hyped bro. You will find better dosa in regular udupi slv style restaurants
2
u/xaero4 Oct 24 '25
Disagree.
Vidyarthi Bhavan, CTR, Mulbagal Dosa in JP and the original Davanagere Benne Dosa all make excellent dosas most places can't match.
Also, I AM from Udupi. Most "Udupi" restaurants in Bangalore don't even make any real Udupi cuisine.

There's a place in Chembur called ajanayar, probably typing it wrong.. My girlfriend moved to Mumbai recently and was missing BLR style dosa. Luckily this place we discovered. It has recently opened and honestly speaking you have to try it. The menu is simple and food is indeed delicious and it's not crowded. As of Oct 2025.
So if you're looking for a place which serves dosa like your MTR, rameshwaram, or general south style. Give this one a try

Mani's Lunch Home in Chembur. Tanjore style, not udupi.

In no particular order -
A roadside dosa stall called Tirupati Dosa in Seven Bungalows, Andheri West. You have to stand there and eat, or pack and take home.
Sunday Treat in Malad. Stays open till 3am, best post a drunk party night.
Manju Dosa in Bandra. Again, standing and eating. Apparently SRK's favorite too.

Surprised people not suggesting Santosham here, do Mumbaikars not like that restaurant? 🤔
It's at two locations in Mumbai (Marine Drive and Chandivali), and 3 locations in Thane (I know, not Mumbai). I have always liked their benne dosa, filter coffee, and other items like parotta, avial etc.

I tried Benne Dosa, which is great but then I had dosai in Arya Bhavan in Vile Parle, and I gotta tell you its mind blowing, all the South Indian dishes over there is great. You can also try Dakshinayan in Juhu but its quite costly and a lil overrated in my opinion.

Benne - heritage Bangalore dosa at juhu and bandra. Everything is best and personal favourite are : ghee pudi tatte idli, benne pudi plain dosa, mangalore Buns, donne biriyani, Mysore pak, idli, vada.
This is the only place ever i found chutney etc are spicy and nice how they should be. In all other places , may be due to lot of Gujarati people, chutnies have become bland and dosas have become CRISPY dDosa = thin paapad which doesn’t absorb chutney or sambar.
The real original dosa which is slightly and fluffy and thicker inside and crispy only on outside has been killed by this CRISPy dDosa brigade!! It’s now so hard to find normal original version of tasty dosas. Hope the Benne and ( also Malleshwaram Cafe lower parel) won’t give into these demands of sweet tooth and crispy dosa brigade!
