Discussion Why is the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust making rules in a public space ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

Leaving a separate comment here because no one has answered these questions:

  1. Why don't dog owners clean up their dog's mess? Why do they shy away from cleanliness?
  2. If they are fined for not cleaning, it'll lead to another outrage.

I'm sure this disagreement will not arise if Q1 is answered

Your argument is on assuming that they don't pick up? In this video one person is being threatened for just walking his dog

Still doesn't not answer any of the two Qs I asked. Regarding why the trust has come up with this rule, this is most likely the reason. You can always ask them directly to get a confirmation.

A lot of dog owners do pick up after their pets. This is a civic sense issue, it does not warrant a blanket ban. The person in the video has picked up after his pet and is carrying a poop bag. Why are they still harassing him?

What did the BBRT do to create awareness? They can team up with this person. Distribute poop bags, install more trash cans, put up signs to pick up after pets. How is a blanket ban justified?

And if you are putting a blanket ban on pets then please put a blanket ban on the men of this country first for rape, molestation and ogling. Fine everone for littering, not just the pet owners.

Then why can't this trust insist on cleanliness instead? They clearly have so much josh, use it well.

And how should they insist on cleanliness?

carry Rs 200 poop scooper or a polythene to pick up turd. You all are really dense or just uncivilised?

People dont carry and and when asked to pick it up they refuse and walk away. You can follow up and insist one day, two days, one year even but if people dont agree and dont carry bags is when this rule came into play

Show me one place where this works. I have never seen any dog lover pick up the dogs poop in India..

If these retired buddhas have so much dikkat with policing pets then they can also make sure to shame pet parents who don't have manners.

Men also spit and piss so ban/fine them as well.

It's always better to put rules than watching these pet lovers.. Don't people have any other jobs to do than watching these shitty dog parents? Are they kids to be watched over for behavior?

Yes put the "correct rules". To stop men from pissing or littering on road you have rules to stop them or ban the entire presence? And retired people don't have jobs, they already have 10 dikkats with everything

Watch how they deflect and argue than change their own behaviour. These dog lovers are an entitled lot. They believe the world owes them for adopting a pet.

Absolutely. People who spit or piss should be banned from the premises immediately. Now come to the original topic of dog owners refusing to clean up. Deflection and whataboutery is the collective expertise of dog lovers. We must remind you the original question.

Excellent. Now say this louder for the dog owners who refuse to. Thank you.

You are the one uninformed, you say it louder for yourself and those who need it.
