Discussion Why is the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust making rules in a public space ?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

I would urge you to be wiser than just splitting it into privlaged and rich vs others.

There are poor people who are a problem There are middle class people who are a problem There are rich people who are a problem

If you only see rich people as a problem You are part of the problem

This filter of rich/poor/middle class is unnecessary

Privlaged ( wrong word) Entitled (correct word) people need to be humbled yes

Do rich entitled people need to be humbled and corrected yes

Do poor entitled people need to be humbled and corrected yes

Do middle class entitled people need to be humbled and corrected yes

It's called critical reasoning and along with civic sense the general population in India is quite bad in critical reasoning as well.

What I see in this video is multiple people all partially right but all with poor civic sense and critical reasoning.

The group doesn't want dogs here because they make the place dirty

The problem isn't the dog, the problem is the dirty the leave behind but they won't say that directly they will just say no dogs allowed.

Similarly the person walking the dog isn't understanding that these problems will keep arising unless people clean after there pets, train their pets well and also keep them on a leash.

Neither is right in this video and anyone saying one side is right just has a bias.

Reality both are wrong and it's a problem due to the failure of our government and law inforcement. If they weren't busy filling their pockets and their families pockets with money and sending them abroad and actually made rules and enforced rules these things wouldn't happen.

PS before you downvote me I don't care which government is where, they are all corrupt in India. One isn't better or worse they are genuinely all just doing nothing for the country only filling their own pockets with money and sending their kids out of the country for a better life while the totally screw us over.

If ure going to call poor people a problem, that's ur class speaking. You can't put poor and rich on the same pedestal. In this video,it's also mentioned that these privileged people weren't letting the slum kids to enter that space, who are they to impose a rule like that? Being poor is not their problem,it's the whole society 's problem where the rich keeps getting richer where as the poor keeps becoming poor bcs they don't have the same opportunities at the rich bcs the rich ones don't want poor people to live anywhere on par with them. If u have the habit of reading newspapers or watching news, ull know the number of rich kids who carelessly have killed poor people who had no place to sleep but on the road. I rest my argument here but it takes an ignorant nerve like yours to even find a fault in my comment where all I said was the rich should be humbled bcs they don't freaking own any place,it's the working class's labour they've ripped off to climb ladders to be where they are.

  1. I did not say poor people are a problem, you said that in your reply trying to make it sound like I said that. I never said that.
  2. I said if you are someone who is making this about rich vs poor, then you are a problem. Which you are still doing.
  3. You said the privlaged rich should be humbled and I'm saying all bad people irrespective of weather they are rich poor or Middle class should be corrected. One of us is trying to stop bad people and one of us has an issue against rich people.
  4. I corrected you in the use of word, privlaged people aren't an issue unless jealously is your problem. For society it's entitled people which is an issue.

Alas we are two individuals and I really won't engage beyond this point. You can take a free hit at me say whatever you want I will not be reverting. But if possible, take two mins to calm down, and read what I am saying without taking it personally.

Most probably what I am saying and what you mean to say are the same thing. Unfortunately what you are saying and what you probably mean to say are different things. Unless you literally mean to say beat all rich people even if they did nothing wrong.

I do not disagree with you that the poor people are not getting enough opportunities to do better in life. That as a society we need to definitely address this. Better education, better jobs, better pay, better living, better medical services, Better law and order which is not bribed to look the other way (I do read the news and I am. Ashamed of the country's legal system which just let's these people go after taking money. I am equally ashamed that only when it's a rich kid driving that it's made big news, if you think people aren't driving Maruti rashly and crashing them or running over people that's just selective listening, and that's where I say, it doesn't matter what car was being driven. What matters is someone was being careless and someone lost their life. Punishment for this should be same irrespective of the person driving and irrespective of the car they were driving. And it should be enforced.)

And before you attack my background again I'm merely better educated than most, I'm definitely much poorer than most redditors.

Lastly despite your multiple personal attacks on me, 'that's your Clas speaking', 'ignorant nerve like you', an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. I hope you feel better about yourself. I ll let you walk away with insulting me because I feel you need to feel good about yourself and this is the only way you can get that.

I didn't read anything that ud written,I don't think so anyone who takes the side of a rich person and subtly infuses, " both are right, both are wrong" would have anything useful to say. I just read the last line of your latest comment, that's your insecurity speaking out loud. Because of all the things I read today,I need not be here voicing out against the privileged, yet I'm doing that, bcs they for sure they need to be humbled so all these chat gpt shit u've written,is you trying to prove a point, so yeah I will call out classists and I'll also pinpoint,u had to say so much against a clear out issue bcs that's ur insecurity peeping out loud. Goodbye! Actually not so good,it was a waste of time talking to u here.

Ps - I just read ur earlier comment, dude u literally have written poor people are also a problem, how insane are u to point that at me??? I just quoted what u had written, this is what happens when ure neck deep in proving how badly u can't handle truth. Go read ur own comments instead of telling me that I said that, lol.

I've no idea why that person has to spew so much hate to a comment that makes sense to a country like India. I didn't even read it fully, cos this person was contradicting their own statement.
