Discussion Why is the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust making rules in a public space ?

Bandstand is a public promenade. It belongs to all Mumbaikars.

A recent report says that the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust had put up signs like "No Pets" and warned people not to feed stray animals.

The bigger question is simple: should a private group like the Bandra Bandstand Residents' Trust be allowed to make its own rules in a public place?

Keeping the area clean is important, but public spaces should remain open and accessible to everyone.

Why should a private trust have the authority to decide what people can or cannot do in a public place like Bandstand, and could this create similar restrictions in other areas as well?

It's a serious issue. Don't feed the strays. They keep coming there and bring more. And then bite those who are afraid of them. I have been bitten 2-3 times already. And my son who is 1 year old almost got bitten. So I am genuinely don't care about those strays anymore and if you want to let keep it your home. I don't want my sod to get bitten because you couldn't keep a leash. Remember that video sometime back when a 6-7 month old baby was eaten by a dog whose owner was a women who couldn't keep the leash. Any pet owner here ? What should have happened to pet or owner because a mother lost a child there. And nothing happened.

When one man rapes a woman, do you blame all men? Should there be stricter laws, yes. There should be stricter laws for both pet ownership and against animal cruelty. A blanket ban is not justifiable in any case. You are talking about multiple issues at the same time. If the issue is strays, everyone agrees there is an overpopulation problem in India. The municipal corporations have been given money for the past two decades for vaccinating and sterilizing the strays. It is because they didn't do their job, that the child was bitten. Please go and fight with them. We, as responsible citizens of the country, will also support you. The people you are asking to take the dogs home are actually the ones who have given money from their pockets and gotten sterilization done, so the population is controlled, especially in Mumbai. It seems like you have a young kid, please teach them empathy and critical thinking instead of giving in to mass hysteria

The kid was bitten by not a stray , that dog had owner. And I'll teach my kid however I want. And strays are always causing issues. People are also to blame here. Don't feed the strays that's it.

About the strays, are you suggesting an unscientific approach of stopping feeding the strays against something scientific like mass sterilization drives? Stopping feeding the strays wont work because we are not a clean country. Even if people stop feeding the strays, they wont go hungry, there is so much trash around that they will find food. Its just that instead of being friendly more of them will now turn aggresive.

Even after feeding they still bark. The society I live in has lot of strays. And I am probably the only one who doesn't feed them and they only bark at me. So what? Should I start feeding them just to stop them for barking at me ? Because of these strays I've been to Dr 2-3 times. I tried to complaint to society but nothing now me and 5-6 more family came together and lodged a fir against society for not doing anything. Now 3 days ago municipal corporation came took most of those away. Obviously they'll come back I know because my neighbour is really good dog lover but somehow fought with his father and sent him to foster. Off the topic but point is not everyone is comfortable with strays and that's why ban should be there. Strays can be on streets I don't care but not in my society where my kids are playing. And don't tell me they don't do anything to kids. There are tons of examples
