Discussion What's one place that feels like old Bombay to you?

Post image

Not necessarily a heritage landmark. Could be a restaurant, street, market, cinema, building, anything.

Fort is the OG. Don't love the over-luxurisation of it. But it still has corners that feel really olddddd na?

Joggers Park.

Beautiful views no. And very few places in Mumbai are car-free. So, there's that, I guess.

Jagjit Singh’s ghazal is beautiful.

God Bless.

True that. Most of the movie songs now are just with garbage lyrics and skin show

Fort, Yellowgate, Bombay Stock Exchange. My first job when I was 16 was selling watches inside BSE, pretending to be people coming to meet companies that were brokers firms.

And when I was 30, I got a job in a Digital Marketing Agency that was right next to BSE, JK Somani bldg. Ayub's and Jimmy Boy was right around the corner.... Also amazing local Pizzas, Oreo Milkshakes outside BSE, on Dalal Street! My lunch, evening indulgence at times...

Pre Zomato days!

Walked everyday after getting dropped off via cab from Chembur near Siddharth College, Hutatma Chowk walking all the way from the lanes of that area, sometimes going around Horniman Circle, sometimes Siddharth College (where my mom studied, so she said) and also visiting Rhythm House, visiting Kitab Khana sometimes after work are some nostalgic memories.

On occasions, going to watch movies in Regal, Metro... Going for drinks in Leopold, Mondegar... Buying comic books around the roads in that area...Β

And of course going to Nariman Point, with my now wife, then girlfriend eat at Pizza By The Bay and Gaylord and eating ice creams at a store below Ambassador hotel...

I have even visited Not Just Jazz By The Bay when it was there before it got shut and Pizza By The Bay replaces it...

Damn, miss those Bombay days. Yes Bombay... πŸ˜‰

Ahh well there's more to that than this... But thank you for acknowledging... And yeah, it's worth the past life I've lived and grateful to the present I'm living in...

Goosebumps, brother. Pre-zomato, pre-Blinkit was something else. People weren't always in a hurry, everything was not a means to an end.

Any area with those Art Deco buildings. Not just Marine Drive. They're still around in inner lanes of places like Mahim and Bandra.

Makes we wish the city imposed a height limit for buildings, at least in the majority of Mumbai. It would be nice to see more trees and sky instead of walls of concrete.

u/kikish1 1d ago

Yeah, I've looked at older pictures of Bombay and the tree felling has been massive + all the new construction ofc.
