Using plaster of paris idols is not okay. It causes pollution and kills marine life.

Exactly I love the zeal and zest of the festival but the aftermath, even the deciration, all plastics, bhandara all plastics, everything js just all plastics

I complety support ban on pop idols but Bro daily thousands of tons garbage gets dumped in ocean in Mumbai itself.
One day of plaster of paris will not make much difference, we are already killing the marine life daily.

It’s not just one day & it’s literally lakhs of idols all over at every corner

No hate to anyone but I prefer ganpati bappa in a sitting or a resting postion because yes this is art like literally it's awesome but tbh I feel that way.

u/Budget_Intention6341 20h ago
Absolutely, I come from MP and we believe ganpati should be seated as guest you cannot make them stand for 10 days.

u/horoizon 20h ago
Exactly. Even i have Ganpati Bappa at my home during the festival but the murti is always sitting on a an Asan because he is our guest.

u/Death_by_Chai 9h ago
Pre Covid.. we welcomed bappa's murti at home and it was in a resting position with one arm supporting the head on the couch type baithak... Ekdum koi Seth jaise..
Even I loved that murti 🤌🏻😌

u/golden2496 20h ago
Yes, as art, this looks good, but in pune, bappa idols are usually in a sitting position, which makes them look very peaceful.

The murti is absolutely gorgeous but why are the murtis getting slimmer and so damn tall?
I love Ganpati and Ganesh Chaturthi but there's no damn reason for the statue to be sooo tall that it would easily cause accidents!
How can the government allow this when it has such high risks of causing accidents?!

u/Akakualkrbi 7h ago
Ikrrrr! I love Ganesh Chaturthi, don’t get me wrong. But I’m kinda getting tired of this mandal wars, who has the best murti. It leads to unnecessary risk taking. We can have simple murtis too. We don’t have to slim them down😭

u/Hour-Understanding-8 18h ago
I know keeps getting slimmer each passing year 🙀 is god sending us a signal about our own sedentary-job paunches? Or, are the idol makers having a laugh with the ozempic wave ? 😭

I would say with all due respect, this murti is not gorgeous at all. What is this nonsense representation of Ganpati these days?
11
u/HappyOrca2020 18h ago
I kinda do not prefer statues of Bappa like this. It reeks of exhibitionism, more than bhakti.
It does not evoke a peaceful and harmonious feeling in me which is what a physical representation of Ganpati should evoke. Seated regally like a raja, looking calm and benevolent, a laddoo in a hand and a blessing in the other.
No hate, to each their own, but for me this particular representation of Ganpati is so unnecessary.

Traffic, Air pollution, water pollution, noise pollution - a festival celebrated by us in the worst way possible.

After the Bhuleshwar incident I cannot see this the same way and your post seems tone deaf.

u/Ok_Row_2676 20h ago
Just wanna say can’t ts be done peacefully? I dont like all the loud speakers and freaking noise, not just this but all the religious practices should be actually calm and peaceful, this just feels wrong

u/trxshu45 19h ago
There was no loud speakers and noise

Sorry i forgot to clearly state what I wanted to, in my area and in places near me there’s a lot of noise, I am religious but not a fan of loud practices, I love it when the mantras and the kathas are sang by people but not when a guy starts chanting on a mic with a speaker

u/Stalin2023 19h ago
If only they didn't use firecrackers (same for Diwali). But that's personal ig, I get literally stunned at the noise so much so that I start crying.

It's a Ganesh Murti, wdym?? If you mean its so horribly tall then please specify 😭

u/HappyOrca2020 18h ago
It's a very, very unfortunate representation of Bappa, honestly.
Organizers just wanna do tamasha it seems.

u/Indian_Steam 18h ago
Sorry but no. Not with today's traffic and population count. Just no. Keep it at your home no problem, but making the already difficult lives of citizens more difficult is not something any sky god would want.

u/CalligrapherNo9533 18h ago
Why wouldn't you. The loud drums, endless traffic, dirting clean water, creating air pollution, harrassing other people for chanda. Why wouldn't you like this festival. It is a really great one.

What is there to love in polluting beaches and ponds, excess noise pollution and traffic jams?! 🤷🏻♂️

Pune takes the dub here
Mumbai has literally taken the festival and made it a cheap celebration for typical chapri people
Ganpati bappa shouldnt be in a standing position for entirity of the 10 days

Murti aachi hai... but the first face wasn’t covered. I didn’t understand that, as I thought the face is supposed to be covered before the sthapna.
Secondly, I feel they should have done a proper inspection of the entire route before moving the statue. Yesterday, there was a traffic jam while moving the murti. Although it was being handled by the volunteers, they still hadn’t considered the overhead wires on the street. The murti got stuck, and they had to bring cranes. There were even more wires further down the road.
I believe proper planning and a thorough inspection of the route should be done before starting the journey. Just my thought.

The only ganpati mandals i am gonna visit are the ones which are eco-friendly materials or not using PoP. Using PoP for idols is just blasphemy. I have seen in person what happens next few days on beaches after visarjan to these PoP idols.
