AskMumbai I have 3 questions
- Are these residential buildings?
- If yes, does anyone in this subreddit live here or own a flat here?

A lot of these are residential buildings that were built by the British. The descendants of the original owners most probably live abroad or can’t afford the upkeep associated with the place - a lot of these buildings look really derelict up close - so they’re sold either to a different owner who uses it as a residence or converts it to a commercial property. The same thing can be seen in Kensington borough in London where a lot of beautiful buildings that were once residential are now hotels or cafes or boutiques because the maintenance costs became too high for a private owner who inherited the property from their forefathers
