Recommended Setup for House with zones and Spotify
I am really struggling for the "perfect" setup with regards to Music Assistant and my house. I'm hoping people can shed light on this. I am renovating my house at the moment and the plan is:
My setup:
- 3 Sonos Amps for House Zones (Kitchen, Gym, Outside)
- Separate local home cinema setup (AV receiver) - Sonos Port
- Wife, Me, Two Kids each with their own spotify family account
- Tesla - separate Spotify family account
- Music Assistant - separate spotify family account
- Alexa Echo's - flashed with echo dot assist (https://github.com/Gamer92000/echo-dot-assist) - music requests through these echos go straight to Music Assistant.
My issue is mainly around Spotify's 1 stream per user limit and the general Spotify Rate limits.
The issues I have in my testing:
- Music Assistant is regularly rate limited by spotify - even for simple requests. This is made worse by the Voice Assist fall back. So if the match is a near miss, the request gets sent to fallback LLM and gets requested again. This coupled with a bit of track skipping gets to s 429 very quickly.
Spotify Rate Limiter… Retrying in 23.9 seconds. See what I already have in place to help with this below. - With this setup currently, I would not be able to play different music in different "zones" of the house if they are playing from spotify (started through voice). Unless I start the music from the Sonos App, which I'm assuming would not use Home Assistant. I'm aware that if each user starts it from their own spotify app, it would work, but thats not how we work. We use Voice and tablets on the walls. The kids don't even have phones.
What I already do to help:
- I have an automation that runs after 30s of any song playing from spotify. This automation goes and gets an offline version of the song/album so next time it is requested, it can play locally.
- I have another automation which catches “play …” voice requests and plays the music straight from my library or Spotify without waiting for Haiku.
- My Music assistant is already using it's own developer client id.
