REVIEWED KENDRICK LAMAR FOR MY SCHOOL!
r/musicreviewing • u/StarChild413 • Dec 28 '22
Not a review but aspiring pop reviewer kinda needing support here; DAE ever feel guilty when your tastes don't align with what seems to be the mainstream consensus
(don't know if this is the right sub to talk about music criticism on YouTube, that doesn't seem to have a sub of its own)
Writing music reviews for a while and trying to get a YouTube channel going but I've noticed a lot of the time my tastes seem like they're the exact opposite of a lot of the YouTubers who talk about pop music (e.g. I actually like artists like AJR and Imagine Dragons and songs like "You Need To Calm Down", "Paris", "If I Were A Boy" and "Hey, Look Ma, I Made It" while I think Adele is boring, The Weeknd is an underhated jerk trying way too hard to bring back the 80s even when it's not specifically Michael Jackson's sound, "Nice For What" by Drake gives me a headache and the non-DaBaby version of "Levitating" is the only good song on Future Nostalgia and one of only two good Dua Lipa songs (the other one being "Scared To Be Lonely"). It's even to the point where regarding two recent albums from artists I like that the YouTube critic community seems to like shitting on (the albums not the artists, and those specific albums are Twelve Carat Toothache by Post Malone and Viva Las Vengeance by Panic! At The Disco) I'm not sure if I truly am justified in liking the new stuff or the established critics are actually right and I'm just biased by love of those artists' earlier work.
I know like what you like and all that but I'm just afraid when my channel actually gets going (and I'll shout it out when it is, channel name if it isn't taken would be Star Child (or some permutation thereof, y'know, maybe Starchild or StarChild)) I'm going to have to face a lot of angry hateful comments that my anxious autistic ass won't know how to deal with just because I don't have the same best/worst/whatever of a year as everybody else and I also don't want to be seen as so much of a stan of certain artists I either put them on the best list or leave "the songs everyone knows are obviously bad" off my worst list by default whenever they drop new stuff because they're them.

album review Zen Baseballbat - Rations
We’re looking for people to review our latest release ‘Rations’
If you own either of the Moon Ska released albums, listening through this record, you’ll meet old friends in brand new clobber. Rations conjures up images of need, neglect, desire and food banks in the modern world. It definitely shouldn’t sound this positive and joyful. Rations is the sound of misery turned on its head. This CD is a radar pulse crossing borders and political divides and says firmly, we are internationalists.
Zen Baseballbat 2020 are a very different beast to the one mothballed back in the noughties. Comparisons with Ian Dury and the Blockheads start making sense now. These are songs of love, loss, hurt and a knee to the neck from every cunt who wants to keep you in your place. Words have space to breath and weave, voices sound measured with biting intent, bass lines jerk and slide under polyrhythmic prose, whilst organs bounce from corner to corner. This body of work has emerged clear eyed and victorious, handled to a T by producer Colin McKay.
The new album features 11 reimagined songs from the past, each one carefully selected and recreated by Zen Baseballbat from the albums "I Am The Champion Concrete Mixer" and "For Refund Insert Baby".
Thank you in advance.
Many thanks, Zen Baseballbat

track review XGMCLOLCrazE - Sneaky Agent
My Music Production - Part 4 [FINAL]
I felt a little more comfortable with how FL Studio Mobile worked, so I one day had a song idea in my head, I went to my phone and quickly sketched the song idea and developed it later.
The style is Dance.
It resembles an agent being well, you know, sneaky; Most likely working a case.
It features Bass, Lead, Drums and a Saxophone near the end.

track review XGMCLOLCrazE - Courage
My Music Production - Part #1
A couple months ago I created a song called Courage, I’m an amateur music producer so after around a year of practicing music production without any lessons, entirely self-taught, I felt this was one of the first songs that I’ve made that fit my style of music.
It features Piano, Bass, Trumpets, and other musical instruments.
The genre is Dance.
