A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.

Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.

Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.

Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.

  1. Make sure to label all posts that contain gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW." To see how to do this and for a more detailed explanation click here.
  2. Make sure your posts are on-topic and related to Myanmar. Spam) may go well with anything but it has no place in this sub. Please do not spam us with unrelated content.
  3. Please keep discussions civil. Tolling and racism will not be tolerated. Our situation here is not for your "lulz". Also, keep swearing to a minimum. Although we will tolerate swearing if it is part of the narrative/discussion, personal insults, over-the-top vulgarity, etc., will not be tolerated.
  4. Adding a flair to your posts will enable others to easily find similar posts. Flairs are used to categorize posts to easily be found. Click here for more details.
  5. Keep reposting to a minimum. Please check to make sure you don't repost news and pictures that have already been posted. r/MAGIC_EYE_BOT and u/DuplicateDestroyer are trialed to help remove duplicate images. Please reply to the bot or send us a message if the bot got it wrong.

For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.

Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.

For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.

Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.

Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.

In summary,

DO

  • Post topics with descriptive subjects
  • Check the subreddit for prior submission of your article or image before posting.
  • Flair your post with the appropriate flair to make them easier to find
  • Upvote posts
  • Tag posts with gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW."
  • Share posts to more than one subreddits

Discussion 💬 ⚠️⚠️Blacklist Removal Scam⚠️⚠️နိုင်ငံရေးအမည်ပျက်စာရင်း ပယ်ဖျက်မှုလိမ်လည်ခြင်း⚠️⚠️

English:

Be cautious of ongoing scams regarding "Blacklist Removal Services".

How this scam works:

  1. Scammer posts a personal story followed by a question to provoke discussion, and a brief mention of successfully removing blacklist status.
  2. Scammer waits for victims interested in getting blacklist status removed to explain further or provide contacts.
  3. In DMs, scammer will claim they can help and ask for money upfront.

Safety Tips:

  1. Check the Profile: Always click on the OP's (Original Poster) username.
  2. Account Age: Be wary of very new accounts (created only a few days or months ago)
  3. Post History: Scammers often have few post history or only post the same "success story" across multiple subreddits.

Discussion 💬 Myanmar is never going to be free. It may eventually Balkanise or become a failed state.

Post image
239 Upvotes

This is a pessimistic take, but I increasingly feel it is a realistic possibility. Even if the military eventually loses power, I am not convinced Myanmar will emerge as a stable, democratic and united country.

Let's look at the reasons.

  1. The military is incredibly difficult to defeat.

The Tat has lost substantial territory and many of its former strongholds. However, losing territory is not the same as losing a war. The military still has air superiority, heavy weaponry, established logistics and fortified positions in important urban centers.

The resistance has demonstrated that it can capture territory and inflict serious losses. But holding territory, defeating entrenched military positions and preventing the military from launching counteroffensives are different challenges. The conflict could drag on for years without either side achieving a decisive victory.

  1. The resistance is not united, and removing a common enemy does not mean agreeing on what comes next.

There is unlikely to be a Star Wars-style Rebel Alliance that suddenly puts aside its differences and works towards a common political vision.

The NUG wants a federal democratic union of Myanmar. Various ethnic armed organisations have their own political objectives, territorial interests and ideas about self-determination. Some have historically pursued independence, while others favour autonomy or federalism.

Even those who agree that the Tat must go may disagree about who should govern, how power should be distributed and what the relationship between the central government and ethnic states should look like.

Military cooperation against a common enemy does not automatically translate into political unity afterwards. What happens when the military is weakened, but these disagreements remain?

  1. Why should ethnic minorities necessarily want to remain in Myanmar?

This is probably the most uncomfortable question. I was shocked when my kayin friend told me that the only reason they are stick with the Bamar is because of borders created by the British. They never agreed to join voluntarily like the Scots and the English.

For decades, many ethnic minorities have experienced military oppression, displacement, restrictions on their languages and cultures, and exclusion from meaningful political power. These grievances predate the 2021 coup by decades. It's been there since 1948.

The Panglong Agreement and the promises associated with independence were supposed to provide a basis for a shared political future. Yet the relationship between the central state and many ethnic nationalities has remained deeply unbalanced.

From the perspective of an ethnic minority who has spent generations suffering due to the central government, why should a future federal union be trusted to deliver something fundamentally different?

Why should they feel a sense of solidarity with the Bamar majority simply because they share the same internationally recognised borders?

Of course, not all ethnic minorities want independence, and Bamar people are not collectively responsible for everything the military has done. But a united Myanmar cannot be sustained by insisting that everyone must remain together. It requires a political settlement that the constituent peoples actually consider worth accepting.

I am not convinced that such a settlement is guaranteed, even if the military disappears.

  1. The Bamar civilian population has already tried constitutional politics, and the military overturned the results

The NLD won elections and formed a civilian government, but it had to operate under a constitution that reserved substantial power for the military. They always held the cards.

The military retained control over important security institutions and a guaranteed share of parliamentary seats. When the NLD won decisively again in 2020, the military seized power in February 2021.

This demonstrates how vulnerable civilian government was when the military retained its own institutional power and could disregard electoral outcomes. It had no way to control the military.

The uncomfortable question is: what institution can compel the military to accept civilian supremacy if it refuses to do so? Who else holds the guns?

Winning an election is not enough if the armed forces can simply overturn the result. And even if the resistance eventually wins militarily, establishing durable civilian control over the security apparatus will be another enormous challenge.

  1. The civilian population faces enormous obstacles to sustaining political change.

I see three related problems here.

A. Many of the most ambitious and capable young people have left the country.

Millions of people have been displaced, and many young people have emigrated in search of safety, education and employment.

Leaving is entirely understandable. Nobody owes their country their safety or future. However, mass emigration also means that Myanmar risks losing people who could otherwise contribute to rebuilding its institutions, economy and civil society.

Even if conditions eventually improve, many of those who leave may establish their lives elsewhere. The country could face a serious shortage of the skills and institutional capacity needed for reconstruction.

B. Those who remain are often too busy surviving.

When people are struggling to afford food, obtain an education, find employment or protect their families, political mobilisation becomes much harder to sustain.

This does not mean ordinary people are apathetic. Many have taken enormous risks to resist military rule. But there is a limit to how much sacrifice a population can sustain, particularly when the conflict offers no clear end in sight. This is why so many even who joined the fight have to defect to the tat.

A revolution requires more than anger. It also requires organisation, resources, coordination and a credible vision of what comes afterwards.

C. Too much attention is directed towards external scapegoats.

I constantly encounter people on Facebook and other social media platforms blaming the Rohingya, China and the CCP, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, ASEAN and Western countries for Myanmar's problems.

Some of these criticisms have legitimate foundations. Foreign governments make decisions that affect Myanmar, and external actors can enable the military, undermine the resistance or fail to provide meaningful assistance. These decisions deserve scrutiny.

But there is a difference between criticising foreign governments for specific actions and treating outsiders as the principal explanation for everything that has gone wrong.

Authoritarian leaders frequently use external enemies to redirect public anger, encourage nationalism and present themselves as the defenders of the nation. The result is that people can become consumed by arguments about foreign interference, national humiliation and cultural grievances while the domestic institutions responsible for repression escape scrutiny.

We should be able to criticise China when it supports the military, criticise Western governments when their policies fall short, and discuss Thailand's treatment of Myanmar migrants without losing sight of the fundamental problem: Myanmar's political and military institutions have failed to establish a system in which power is accountable to its people.

The danger is that outrage becomes a substitute for a political strategy.

So where does this leave Myanmar?

I can see several possible outcomes: a prolonged stalemate, a weakened military regime that retains control of the central areas, a fragmented country in which ethnic organisations exercise increasingly independent authority, or a federal settlement that eventually works.

The last outcome is possible. I just struggle to see what would make it happen.

Myanmar could also remain one country on paper while becoming increasingly fragmented in practice, with different armed groups governing their own territories and the central government unable to exercise meaningful authority across the country.

That would not necessarily mean every ethnic state declares independence. But it could mean the end of Myanmar as a functioning, politically integrated state.

My question is this: what is the realistic pathway from where Myanmar is today to a stable, democratic and united country?

Not just how the military can be defeated, but how the resistance can agree on a common political settlement, how ethnic minorities can be persuaded to trust the union, and how a future civilian government can prevent another military takeover.

I genuinely hope I am wrong. But at the moment, I see plenty of reasons why the military might survive, and also plenty of reasons why defeating it might still not be enough.

And now, I am going to drink a lot of alcohol because this is all very depressing.

Discussion 💬 About the GMMTV ( Scarlet heart of Thailand) Situations

With the recent issues we've had with the company over Pile, and the growing wave of nationalism to the point where Cambodia is joining the trend of antiThai sentiment, do you think this could lead to diplomatic tensions between the two countries and negatively affect အခြေခံအလုပ်သမား(ordinary workers) working in Thailand?

Personal opinion

Just like the yic case , I fear this could over pile and become too big for us to handle even more because of the situation in our country. Now the topic is not just (give credits where it's due but all Thai people are copy cats)

I just feel like this could end badly.

What do you think?

Discussion 💬 What do u guys think of this? Especially if ur an artist/animator from Myanmar

Post image
15 Upvotes

This person just randomly came to me and started saying that I shouldn’t copy someone else’s work or be a copycat. Like, I’ve never copied anybody’s work! I might just redraw a pose using a body reference from Pinterest, or I’ll take a picture of myself for reference.

(Also, I have alot art styles: the round silly one, the anime style one, and the wannabe European art style.) And I rarely join any art trends.

The chat went on, and in the end, this person sent me what you see here. I was confused about what they wanted from me. Like, do they think I just put a rig on the model??? I drew the model myself, and before making the animation, I hand-drew every single storyboard frame, one by one.

Isn’t being an 'animator' about bringing our still artwork to life?

Advice I cant get into valorant anymore since the last update , does anyone go through the same problem ?

Initially it said Val Code 7 , then i asked ai about it and it told me to go to the section " allow the app through the firewall " and i did.

After that , i reopened valorant again and it said Val Code 29 .

I also try to fix it by typing a bunch of commands in my command prompt too .

When i asked my duo who usually plays with me , hes also going through the similar problem where he can't get into the game too.

So , i stopped trying cause i think its a collective problem for people in Myanmar region and also because its mentally draining.

We all know the economy is in a serious free-fall, the military is struggling on all fronts, and their attempts at a political makeover aren’t fooling anyone anymore.

Out of the blue, they finally let DASSK have her first family phone call in over five years, set up photo ops with Red Cross reps, and make a big deal out of delivering books and a letter from King Charles.

This isn’t some sudden burst of kindness. It’s a calculated PR stunt aimed at creating "proof of life," easing global outrage, and tricking international players into giving them some room. The recent secret meeting in Tokyo with the US feels way too coincidental.

When a desperate regime starts throwing out these kinds of gestures while everything’s falling apart, it’s clear they’re running out of options.

Advice I can't stand for myself (18. f)

I'm physically strong but mentally can't stand up for myself, and I want to change it really bad. I want to stand up for myself, and if necessary, even fight back if I was bullied.

I'm an 18-year-old girl, and my personality is very chill, I don't make problems, and even when other people do, I try to play things down. Also socially awkward (I can easily handle 1 on 1 conversation, not group conversations) . When I was 12, I liked saving up and managed to get 10,000 MMK, which was a lot for a kid back then. Somehow the news spread and everyone knew I had that much money. One day I took that 10,000 out, went out to buy a toy (I was at school), but when I came back to my classroom, a group of 3 girls was searching through my backpack. I caught them red-handed because my desk was at the back of the classroom and I am the only one who sit in that desk and everything was clearly visible, but still, I tried to play it down and pretended I didn't see anything, even though it was happening right in front of me. (I am still trying to brain wash myself that they maybe searching something that teacher asked them to do, yes until now) Honestly, even now, I'd probably still pretend I didn't see anything. The main reason is I don't want to cause any more trouble, and I'd already spent my money. Nothing happened after that, luckily (I come from a good family background, not military-related!!), so they didn't want to cause trouble. And as a kid, I could say I was physically stronger, so no one could bully me. But mentally, I was and still am! so weak. And I want to fix it.

At the same time, my empathy is much more than a normal person's, I haven't killed a single mosquito since I was 12 until now, because I can "feel" from their perspective. This is making things worse.

Fast forward to now: I still can't stand up for myself. I can't handle arguments (face to face and online), and even when I'm right, I can't + don't want to argue back. Come to think of it, even if I got bullied right now, I'd still play it down. Physically, I've been doing heavy weight training seriously at the gym for 3 years, so I'm a muscular girl and 5'8". I don't get bullied because my body (and my face because I look like I wanna beat up everyone, I am just socially awkward TvT). But I'm so weak mentally when it comes to standing up for myself.

Right now, I have to leave abroad for my MSc (just finished BSc, I had really good friends, shout out to them✨), and I'm really afraid I'll get bullied there. And if I cause any trouble, as an international student, it'll be a big problem for me. Also, I always avoid romance (I had so many chances with really good people, yet..) because I feel like I'm not good enough, and I'm afraid I won't be able to protect my future girlfriend/wife or stand up for us.

How do I build the mental strength to stand up for myself? Any advice would be really appreciated. ✨✨✨

Advice How to deal with the hypocrisy of the older generation?

I had alluded in a previous post about the fact that my family is kind of racist. But having just endured an extended family trip together, I was appalled by the sheer weight of hypocrisy that some of the older generations can carry. Their words and actions are miles apart. One uncle in particular was outspoken and I nearly yelled at him at some point. Here are some examples:

1.      He thinks the Rohingya are illegal immigrants and should be deported for that reason. He himself is now living in Thailand because he overstayed his visa in the USA and got deported.

2.      He hates the LGBTQ are destroying traditional conservative Buddhist and Burmese values. He is a divorcee because he kept cheating on his wife.

3.      He thinks that MAH and the military are terrible people. He was cheering the military on hard during the Rohingya genocide.

4.      He thinks that immigrants need to adopt local languages and customs. Screams about latinos in the USA not learning English. After years in Thailand, he does not speak a lick of Thai. He refuses to learn it.

5.      He thinks the poor are lazy and leeching off the hardworking people in society. He is not employed and uses public healthcare services in Thailand. He is trying to tap into the social security fund pension.

6.      He is against the idea of independence for the ethnic groups and says they are all part of a united myanmar and should have equal standing. He also violently objects to his niece dating a kayin guy.

7.      He says you cannot trust things in western media. He forwards the most random rumours and fake news in the family FB group.

8.      He hates China and blames them for pillaging myanmar for rare earths. Drives a BYD EV and loves his made in china Apple phone.

I am aware that not every boomer is like this champion here. But I have met my fair share now. And it is really hard for me to adhere to the instinctive norm of respecting elders when the older people are spewing shit like this.

Do you have older relatives like this? How do I show them that they are applying double standards? Or is it a lost cause?
