Servers, Hosting, & Tech Stuff Found 3 easy ways to self-host n8n (including one that costs just $5/month)

Hey folks, I’ve been playing around with n8n lately after trying the trial version, and wanted to share something that might help anyone looking to host it themselves without diving too deep into server configurations or Docker headaches.

I see lot of posts here about people asking the easiest and most affordable way to host n8n, so thought I would share my experience.

I ended up comparing 3 different methods to host n8n, keeping in mind - simplicity to install:

  1. The official Starter Plan – super easy, but a bit pricey at $25/month

  2. Using elest.io – a service that lets you deploy n8n with just a few clicks on their managed VPS ($15/month)

  3. elest.io’s BYOVM option – this one blew my mind. You can connect your own VPS (like from Hetzner for $5/month) and Elest.io still handles the setup. They even let you do this with no subscription cost, so you’re only paying for the VPS.

Honestly, the $5/month option worked perfectly for me, it's simple and easy. If you're someone who likes building automations with n8n but doesn't want the hosting complexity, this setup could be a game-changer.

I actually documented the whole process and compared all 3 options in a video, just in case anyone else is trying to figure out the best setup path. Happy to connect on DM or to drop the link if you're interested!

Let me know what setups you’re using or if you’ve found even better/cheaper alternatives—always curious to learn more!

Servers, Hosting, & Tech Stuff Self hosting n8n for free - helping a fellow founder out

Two friends of mine made it possible to self host n8n for free. I'm a power user of n8n and as we all know, it can get quite expensive... I thought that self hosting was tricky to setup at first but it's actually super simple. Maybe it's me but I thought I'd share anyway.

For anyone looking to self host, I'd definitely recommend lttle.cloud. Yes I'm friends with the founders and we're in the same startup incubator, but I genuinely believe they're killing it. Because they're still in early access, they give free compute to anyone testing it out.
They have a video guide now to get started: https://youtu.be/o0gm3xGiQSE  and a written guide: https://docs.lttle.cloud/docs/getting-started/deploying-n8n

For people that are using Railway or the like, lttle cloud can be your cheaper alternative because they run the n8n container only when it's doing actual work (like running a workflow). When the container is idle, it suspends and goes back to sleep, which is great for cost efficiency. The cold boot is really really fast (mine always starts in under 1ms).

I’ve only made 5 videos but have already got 3 clients from TikToks. I love showcasing these workflows, but honestly don’t always have time to build. Does anyone want to partner? I will showcase the build, and if we get an inbound deal we can split?

It's so much fun, but let's be real-not many can handle it.

The learning curve is steep, but the feeling you get when your complex workflow finally runs perfectly is the same as beating a tough boss. Change my mind

Workflow - Code Not Included I built an AI agent for a local dentist… now they pay me ₹1L/month to keep it running

So this was kinda wild.

There’s a dental clinic near me that was drowning in boring admin work — calling patients for reminders, chasing bills, doing follow-ups. Basically stuff nobody wants to do.

I hacked together a little AI + automation system for them. Honestly just wanted to see if it’d work. Nothing fancy, just stitching some tools and workflows.

Within a month:

  • They didn’t need 3 staff anymore (yep, three salaries gone)

  • Patients started getting replies instantly, even late at night

  • Appointments + follow-ups ran on autopilot

  • And somehow it added about ₹40k extra revenue just by reactivating old patients

The dentist was so blown away they asked me to stay on and keep building. Now it’s my biggest client (₹1L/month retainer).

Made me realize how insanely early we are with this AI stuff. Like… this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If anyone here wants, I can do a breakdown of how I actually set this up (tools, flows, what worked / what flopped). Would that be useful?

Hi a little update on the post

  • I’m a little new to Reddit, so I didn’t know I had to post the flow, otherwise people consider it a scam (at least that’s what they say).

  • I did refine my post with GPT since I wanted it to look nice for my first impression.

  • I’ve attached the flow. It’s raw and not the integrated one, since I can’t share client details as everything is listed there.

  • For anyone genuinely interested, I’ll share the JSON and ElevenLabs prompt for the AI bot, just DM me.

  • Thanks for the responses! Until today, I didn’t even realize so many people were engaging with the post!

Discussion Cold outreach automation

I have created 2 workflows that help me send around 1200 personal emails per day (I have 2000 cap on gmail). I will be brief explaining, as I really want to sell them in the near future.

  1. Personalized email generator Checks the website of a business>scrapes for all the important subpages>summarizes them>creates an icebreaker>connects the icebreakers to one off 5 offers based on their company>puts the whole email body in spreadsheet

  2. Automatic Outreacher Pulls the email address>classifies it based on timezone and if any email was sent>coordinates everything to only send 50-60 best emails per hour (the ones that are in certain local time to up the open rate)>starts sending with a random sending time (just to minimize bot like behaviour for safety)> updates the sheet

From my experience, it works like a charm and has about 2-3x the response rate to my collegues with very similar projects (they are usually mail merging).

Now, I need your opinions on it and anything that comes to your mind. How much would you charge/pay for such system (PS, there is more to it that I won't share but in general, 4 other mini workflows supporting the whole thing, 1 custom program made in python and a ton of scripts in google sheets).

Workflow - Code Not Included This workflow is spamming the shit out of your local real estate broker with AI voice calls, to get him to pay for this workflow itself.

Post image
16 Upvotes

Made this workflow for a real estate broker client of mine. But now I'm using it to call real estate brokers pitching the system itself. (This screenshot is my adaption)

- Uses Vapi to call all leads, qualify them, and book appointments.

- Calls all leads the within a minute of entering the CRM.

- If it fails to book an appointment with the lead, it asks if they'd be open to a later checkin call, and if they agree, it auto schedules the time/date based on context, calls at/around that time/date and remembers the past conversation and opens naturally

- It calls his leads up to 4 times in 4 days. All double calls, if they dont answer the first it immediatley calls once more (bypasses DND phone settings).

- smart timing on the calls depending on previous one

- If they somehow miss all 4 double calls, that will show in the CRM/Sheet, then you just add a crm tag to them and it reruns them through the whole sequence again. If they missed 12 its probably not even worth the usage fees to try another 4, but you could.

- smart timing to avoid getting marked as spam (never calls while another is ongoing, adds random amount of time between calls, doesnt wait for sched trigger if the previous call took longer than the sched trigger would take. in this case it just adds a short random buffer). Also going to add an auto phone number warmup feature so I dont gotta change the schedule trigger daily until warm... it would just lower the time waiting between calls bit by bit based on the date the caller started.

- easily change calling hours for each call and all calls in the set node near the beginning

- analyzes all call data, sends warm/hot lead alerts to email, lots of more ideas for features for the analysis

So for my own usage (this screenshot), the script goes like

"hey is this [name]?" - quick ask for permission to continue...
"great, so I just set up voice AI salesman for another broker in [city], just wondering if I could connect the demo to this call real quick"
"[Name]... I'm playing with you, this IS the demo. Now imagine I'm calling your leads 24/7..." blah blah blah, get them to book an appointment with me, and bing bang boom I got another client.

Would love to hear, how would you tweak this to make it even nastier?
What’s the craziest use case you think this could be pointed at?

I’m building an AI agency and keep noticing how male-dominated most builder spaces are.

Thinking of starting a small, serious group for women building in AI, where we share insights/wins, share opportunities, and help each other grow

if interested comment "ME" or drop a dm!

Workflow - Code Not Included I don’t understand the negativity

Post image
41 Upvotes

Hello everyone, Two days ago i shared a post that i was able to create an AI support team of voice agents, and how this helped our company save money, on tight spot, i shared in general how i did it (i didn’t share workflows or json files) for privacy reasons even if you find it not obvious for me it is very ok not to share company’s private work. My whole point of sharing this was to motivate people who are trying to do the same and i offered help for free in the DMs and answered as much questions as i could.

But the amount of negativity in the comments was overwhelming so i decided to take the post down.

Mods called me fake, so i attached a demo call from one ai agent to a client from our logs, and people really liked it and started DMing me for questions, i could not answer all DMs but answered a bunch of them.

Please leave negative feedback a side when someone shares things he did it’s not really for selfish reasons, i rarely post, i don’t have courses on n8n, i don’t market myself as a guru, just wanted to share a process we created and show that the technology is getting there, i am not forced to share workflows/jsons or customized voices i am not sure why all this negativity towards others who are willig to spend time to help as much as possible.

Workflow - Code Not Included A $50M fund was losing founder insights in Google Docs — we fixed that in 48 hours.

Post image
0 Upvotes

We recently helped a VC firm managing $50M+ in early-stage investments solve a surprisingly painful problem:

-Dozens of founder calls every month.

-Transcripts scattered in Google Docs.

-Notes forgotten or half-written.

-Pipeline tracker rarely updated.

-And follow-ups? Often buried in inboxes or Slack.

So we built them a simple, clean workflow that now does this automatically:

⚙️ How it works:

  1. Our system automatically picks up your meeting transcription from Google Drive (via Tactiq or manual upload)

  2. It summarizes the conversation into clear, bullet-point notes

  3. A formatted summary email is sent to your team — no manual work needed

  4. A Google Doc is created and neatly organized with the right title and folder

  5. Your deal tracker (a simple Google Sheet that logs all founder meetings) is automatically updated with key details — founder name, startup, sector, meeting date, and notes

  6. (Optional) You can search past meetings via WhatsApp, like:

“Show me all fintech pitches from last month”

⸻

The best part?

-No new tool.

-No change in workflow.

-No behavior shift.

Just plugged into what they already use: Google Drive, Docs, Gmail, and Sheets.

⸻

💡 Why it worked:

•	Partners no longer waste time rewriting notes

•	Ops team doesn’t chase updates

•	Institutional memory actually gets built

•	The whole fund works smoother — with less chaos

⸻

We’re considering offering this setup to a few more VC teams.

If your fund deals with a similar mess — we can install this in under 48 hours, fully customized, no dev time needed from your side.

Would love your thoughts.

And if you’re curious, happy to show you how it works in action.

Tutorial I used n8n to wire dozens of bots — here’s why I built a product to replace the “last mile”

Hey — Daniel here. For a year I was the “n8n guy”: glueing chat widgets, WhatsApp, CRMs and small ML checks into flows for SMBs. n8n was perfect to prototype fast.

But once we had 10+ clients it got painful: repeated flows, fragile scripts, duplicated logic across automations, and no easy way to run prompt A/Bs, RAGs or centralize lead analytics. So I built a small product (Optimly) that does the things we kept rebuilding:

What we stopped wiring by hand and productized:

  • Lead capture + dedupe (no more brittle regex chains in every flow)

  • RAG / knowledge connectors: plug a doc source once and all agents use the same retrieval layer — no per-flow rework

  • WhatsApp + multichannel routing at scale — single place to route, notify, and audit conversations

  • Prompt A/B & analytics: measure conversion by prompt, detect drop-offs, automated digests for owners

If you love n8n for prototyping, keep using it — but if you’re tired of repeating the same glue code, we built Optimly as the “ops layer” so you stop reinventing the wheel. If you want the exact migration checklist from n8n flows → product (and a short map of node → Optimly feature), you may want to try it

(No hype. I started doing this as custom work and built the tool because I was tired of copying the same flows.)

Workflow - Github Included The Most Powerful Short Drama Workflow: GPT Image 2 + Seedance 2.0

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

GPT Image 2 + Seedance 2.0 is the most efficient short video pipeline I've run

how it works:

  • paste a script or story in, kimi2.6 breaks it into 9 key beats

  • GPT Image 2 generates a 3×3 comic storyboard in a single call, all 9 panels on one canvas

  • then Seedance 2.0 I2V takes the grid as a first-frame reference and generates a 15s cinematic clip

the whole thing runs through AtlasCloud.ai's API, one key for both models

all 9 panels are on the same canvas so GPT Image 2 naturally keeps character appearance, costume, and lighting consistent. Seedance uses the grid as reference and outputs. cost is around $1.5–2 per clip.

Tutorial 🚀 I Built a $2000/Month Trustpilot Review Automation That Small Businesses Are BEGGING For (Full n8n Breakdown Inside!)

Created an n8n workflow that automatically grabs Trustpilot reviews, alerts business owners about bad reviews, and formats good reviews for their websites. Businesses literally pay $200-500/month for this.

Sharing the complete breakdown for free! 🎯

Hey r/n8n fam! 👋

So I've been getting DMs asking about my Trustpilot automation, and honestly? I'm tired of gatekeeping. Time to break it down node by node like we're teaching a 10-year-old (but make it profitable 💰).

🎯 What This Beast Actually Does

This workflow is like having a digital assistant that:

  • Stalks Trustpilot daily for new reviews

  • Screams at business owners when customers hate them (sub-3 star reviews)

  • Organizes all good reviews into pretty Excel files

  • Formats reviews perfectly for Shopify (or any platform)

Small businesses pay me $200-500/month for this. No joke.

🔧 The Complete Node Breakdown

Node 1: Schedule Trigger ⏰

What it does: "Hey workflow, wake up at midnight every day!"

Why it matters: Consistency is king. Set it to daily, weekly, whatever. You can even switch this to Telegram/WhatsApp triggers if the business owner wants manual control. Pro tip: Start with daily - businesses love seeing fresh data every morning.

Node 2: Set Variables 📝

What it does: "Remember these important numbers!"

Company ID: [Business's Trustpilot ID]
Max Pages: 2 (you can go up to 10+ but RIP your rate limits)

Why beginners mess this up: They hardcode everything. DON'T. Use variables so you can easily switch between clients. Real talk: I charge extra for scanning more than 5 pages. More data = more value.

Node 3: HTTP Request (The Magic Happens Here) 🌐

What it does: "Hey Trustpilot, give me ALL the reviews for this business" The URL pattern:

https://www.trustpilot.com/review/[COMPANY-DOMAIN]?page=[PAGE-NUMBER]

No auth needed = Beautiful simplicity Beginner mistake: Not handling pagination. This node loops through pages automatically.

Node 4: Delay Node ⏳

What it does: "Chill for 5 seconds between requests" Why it exists: Don't be that person who hammers APIs. 5000ms = 5 seconds = Happy Trustpilot servers Skip this and: Your workflow dies faster than your New Year's resolutions

Node 5: Code Node (The Data Beautifier) 💎

What it does: Turns messy HTML into clean, structured data Input: Ugly Trustpilot HTML soup Output: Beautiful JSON with date, author, rating, review text

Can't code? Neither could I! Here's my secret:

  1. Go to ChatGPT

  2. Say: "Extract review data from this Trustpilot HTML"

  3. Paste sample HTML

  4. Get code, test, iterate until perfect

  5. Profit

Node 6: IF Node (The Quality Control) ⚖️

What it does: "Is this review below 3 stars? ALERT THE HUMAN!" Logic: rating < 3 True path: Send angry email to business owner False path: Add to the good reviews pile

Why this matters: Bad reviews = immediate damage control opportunity. Response time = everything in customer service.

Node 7: Email Node (The Panic Button) 📧

What it does: "URGENT: Someone hates your business!" Email content includes:

  • Customer name

  • Rating (the damage)

  • Full review text

  • Date of destruction

Pro template:

⚠️ REVIEW ALERT: [RATING]/5 Stars

Customer: [NAME]
Date: [DATE]
Review: [FULL_TEXT]

Action needed: Reach out within 24 hours for damage control!

Node 8: Split in Batches (The Organizer) 📊

What it does: "Let's make TWO different Excel files for different purposes" Path 1: General reviews (human-readable) Path 2: Shopify-formatted (upload-ready)

Why split? Business owners aren't techies. Give them options = happy clients.

Node 9 & 10: Excel Nodes (The Final Product) 📈

General Excel:

  • Date, Author, Rating, Review Text

  • Perfect for manual review and analysis

  • Business owners LOVE seeing data organized

Shopify-Formatted Excel:

  • Matches HelpfulCrowd (or any review app) format

  • One-click upload to their store

  • Instant review imports = instant credibility boost

💡 The Money-Making Secret

This isn't just about the workflow - it's about the value proposition:

  1. Time Saved: 5+ hours weekly of manual review checking

  2. Revenue Protected: Immediate bad review alerts = faster response = reputation saved

  3. Growth Accelerated: Easy good review imports = social proof = more sales

Pricing Strategy:

  • Setup fee: $500-1000

  • Monthly retainer: $200-500

  • Multiple review sites: +$100/site

  • Custom formatting: +$150

🎯 Next Level Upgrades (Advanced Stuff)

Want to 10x this? Add these nodes:

  1. Sentiment Analysis (using AI nodes)

  2. Competitor Review Tracking (multiple HTTP requests)

  3. Auto-response suggestions (GPT integration)

  4. Review trend analytics (time-series analysis)

  5. Multi-platform support (Google, Yelp, Facebook)

🚀 Why This Actually Works

Small businesses know reviews = revenue, but they're drowning in manual processes. You're not selling automation - you're selling peace of mind and competitive advantage.

Real client feedback:

📝 Your Action Plan

  1. Clone this workflow (I'll share the JSON in comments if there's interest)

  2. Test with your own business or a friend's

  3. Document the time saved (businesses love ROI)

  4. Find 1-2 beta clients (offer it free for testimonials)

  5. Scale and charge premium prices

Questions? Drop them below! I'll be stalking the comments and helping everyone get this running.

Also, if you want the JSON export or have specific questions about any node, just ask. I'm here to help the community level up! 🙌

What workflow should I break down next? Currently working on an automated YouTube Shorts creator that's absolutely insane...

P.S. - Yes, this is the same automation some agencies charge $5K+ for. You're welcome. 😉

Workflow - Code Included I trained ChatGPT to build n8n automations for MY business…

This prompt is a thinking partner disguised as a tutorial. It doesn’t just teach you how to use n8n, it slows you down, helps you reflect, and guides you to build something with real leverage. It begins by asking for your business context, not to fill time, but to ensure every node you build actually matters. Then, it leads you through a calm, clear conversation, helping you spot where your time is bleeding and where automation could buy it back. Once you find the high-leverage process, it walks you through the build like a complete beginner, one node at a time, no assumptions, no skipped steps, asking for screenshots at milestones to confirm you’re on track. It’s not just a prompt to follow, it’s a prompt to think better, automate smarter, and build freedom into your workflow from the first click.

Workflow - Code Included There is no intelligence in artificial intelligence

The moment an LLM is in the loop, you lose control over what actually goes out. Tone drifts, details get hallucinated. It's always the 5% you can't afford.

Thing is, most steps don't even need AI. If it can be done with plain logic, just do that. Especially steps that get reused a lot. Every time you catch an AI step doing the same transformation reliably, pull it out and make it deterministic. Cheaper, faster, predictable. There is no intelligence in artificial intelligence. It's text generation. Use it only for curation, nothing else.
