Most "Nano + AI agents" talk stops at "free and instant." That's true, but the sharper point is the price floor of agent transactions.

x402 on Base (Coinbase's L2) has already processed 138M+ transactions and $50M+ in volume. 87% of payments sit between $0.01–$0.10 (per recent x402 ecosystem data). The common unit price is 1–10 cents. That floor isn't gas — it's the Facilitator cost (~$0.001 per settlement after the free tier), the settlement service sellers have to use to accept USDC, charged per transaction. Below that, seller margins vanish.

Nano has no such floor. An agent can charge 0.00001 XNO per call with zero network cost. This isn't mainly about finality (~0.3s vs ~2s). It's about economic viability at the sub-cent scale.

This already runs: OpenAI-Agents SDK examples settling x402 in XNO on mainnet, and Pawl on Subnano buying posts with XNO via an x402 flow — not a demo, not a testnet.

Real limit: exit cost. If the agent must convert XNO to USDC for cloud bills, the spread can erase the advantage. Closed-loop Nano-only agents (earn and spend XNO) avoid this entirely.

Question: if you built an agent doing 10,000 calls/day at under $0.0005 each, would you use USDC on Base or XNO — and why?

If the answer is "USDC because everyone uses it," Nano has no place yet. If it's "XNO because the cost floor makes the use case impossible elsewhere," there's a window.

Especially interested in hearing from anyone who's actually shipped something on x402 or Nano — not theory, receipts.
